Changes for Brisbane

Gysberts and Wona will be a good chance this week, wona can add some pressure around the midfield and forward line. Gysberts can help with our clearences.

Two of Jones, Maric, Jetta most likely to make way for the them. Macdonald on standby for Garland. Good to see Newton playing well, him and Howe need to play well and put pressure on Watts to perfrom to keep his place in the 22.

Dunn needs a kick up the arse as well. I'd punt him for bate. We need a lead up target, too many stay at home forwards.

Are you joking? Our whole forward line are lead up targets, petterd, dunn, watts, jurrah, green...we dont have 1 stay at home forward thats our problem.

In: Wonna (give us some bloody forward line pressure), Gysberts (classy player, can find the pill and good user, been playing well for casey)

Out: Jetta (poor yesterday and quite against sydney), Maric (I dont want to this after his good pre-season and limited opportunties but he hasnt done much I dont know who else to select)

Not sure who to drop but i would love to see cook getting a game against brisbane and gold coast. He is obviously a key ingredient to our long-term plans so getting his confidence up with 2 relatively easy (not walk-over) games it could be great for his long-term development without us hindering our ability to win the 4 points.

I'd seriously like to see us play our forwards as forwards for a bloody change... a couple of times yesterday when hawthorn started to get on top in the third, we cut through the zone and were running forward but once we got to the center we DID NOT HAVE 1 player in our 50... WTF? I still cannot understand how we played that well for the 1st half nd then just lost our shit in the 3rd... it was the worst quarter of footy ive ever watched I rekon...
Surprised by all the watts bashing considering I thought when he was 1 ON 1 yesterday he was pretty good... was involved in at least 5 goals... It certainly wasnt our forwards fault yesterday, got destroyed in the midfield...

Aussie is a must inclusion for me... we need his pressure so badly and hopefully it pulls Jurruhs finger out cos for mine he has been worst on in both games so far... his flair is majorly MIA... rekon people are right that Maric will prob go back to Casey for Aus just because he hasnt had that much game time nd needs a serious game under his belt... Would be surprised if Jetta doesnt get the chop, that dropped mark hurt us badly (as did Sylvias kick across half forward which led to Bruces goal ). also he was on Cyril in the 1st quarter and that was a disaster... And Gys has to play as sounds like he is in awesome touch

wouldnt mind seeing Stef Martin spent more time deep 1 out in the 50, looking very good...

cant wait until we have scully, trengove, tapscott and gys in the same team. would love to see these guys play lots of games together

For me, after watching him at Casey, I just don't think Cookie is ready.

He showed some very promising signs, but especially against the Brisbane backline (which is the only part of the ground they look OK), he just isn't strong enough.

Even against youngish opponents at Casey he was outmuscled too easily. Jamar and Martin should spend more time at FF.

Also, I don't think we lack a lead up forward, in fact, I think we have 1 too many. Often times they end up getting in the other ones space.

I would like to see:

OUT: Jetta, Maric, Jones
IN: Gysberts, Aussie, Morton

Gysberts is an absolute must inclusion, and although I really like Jetta, in both games he has looked out of his depth. He needs more time, but I still think he will get there.

Maric to me, looked like he had gone back to being lazy and doing the things he was criticised by the coaching staff for. He needs a kick up the bum.

Although Morton might be a little underdone, I would love to see him come in as the sub. His versatility is perfect for it, as well as his aerobic capacity. He shouldn't be too down on fitness, as his injury as still allowed him to do most of the fitness work. If he is played as the sub, I think it doesn;t expose him, and is better than a run at Casey.

can't wait for gysberts to come back in, watching him tear it up against Geelong last season was so refreshing. Not to mention seeing jetta/jones get dropped him make me happy as well.

Jetta needs more match experience and he will get a fair bit from playing with Casey, Jones is just one of those players that will struggle with new sub rule considering he can't play any other posi cept for inside midfielder, but hes slow and can't kick so... we will almost certainly try trade him at end of season

Come end of this month, is there really a spot for Jack Watts in the 1sts? I know we need to keep playing him, but there's some big names waiting to come back:

- Gysberts
- McKenzie
- Wonna
- Scully
- Morton

Outs from the current side:
- Maric
- N. Jetta
- Jones (hopefully)

Other than that, finding it hard to kick out another player from Round 2. Watts really isn't learning much about being a KPF by floating around outside the forward 50 - a spell in the magoos might do more for his development, while allowing a bit more bite to our lineup. What do you guys think?

If they miss Swan, Jones will be good as the tattooed posterboy for GWS. :thumbsu:

Watts demands a tall defender purely because of his height; having him in the side releases pressure from Dunn, Jurrah and Green. Beside none of the blokes you listed play the same position. Morton comes closest, but still based out of opposite ends of the ground.

That said poor games against the Lions and GC and you're probably right regardless of the ins.

Watts was our best player on the ground in the first half, and that's saying something because we had quite a few good players in the 2nd quarter

You didn't notice Jurrah doing four fifths of **** all on Sunday night? I would probably omit Jurrah and include Gysberts and just play an extra mid, rotating Jones into the FWD pocket (at least he won't do too much damage there, and someone else said in another thread, he does like a goal), and Sylvia/Trengove through half forward a bit more.

Agree with others that we should just about always have one of JAmar and Martin (while he is in form) in the f50, unless we are under the pump for height down back.

Give Maric and Jetta another chance due to preseason credits, but with Wonna banging on the door (and Jurrah dropped) they'd be on notice!

My 2c.

In: Gysberts
Out: Maric

Don't think Bennell and Maric work in the same side, and Maric proved last week that his type as a sub doesn't really work. Should be a running mid IMO.

Dean Bailey will ruin Addam Maric's career, such a smart footballer just needs more of an opportunity, he had too good of a pre season to get dropped, and i really dont want Bate in the side. Melbourne should win the next game and after today the forwards should get a chance to prove themselves after very limited opportunities. The forwards weren't the problem today.

Brains on BigFooty, I like it. Maric needs a kick up the arse and he'll fire up. Jones has tried harder than alot. Bate would be a massive mistake.

I'm taking nothing from that sub other than the poor coaching decision to wait so long to make the change, the game was over. Not that it would've done much but at least using it earlier would have shown some adaptive thinking. 6 touches in that amount of game time is no disgrace from Maric considering half of the team's output in the 2nd half.

My choice for the sub this week would be Wona, if the games stagnating he's definitely the sort of player who can change a game & it also eases him back into senior footy, we've all seen him not be able to run out full games in the past. I'd drop Jetta for Gysberts & put Maric on notice that he's got this game or he'll go back to Casey & have to earn promotion.

Bennell & Maric don't work in the same team if coached the wrong way. It looks like we're trying to build a team of half-forwards/mids like collingwood where instead if 5 mids (3 onballers & 2 wings) you have 7 or 8 mids on the ground at all times, but the guys in the half-forward positions for us aren't good enough to step into the middle for very long.

marics been on our list for over 5yrs, hes got nothing to offer, i cant believe fans were pumping his tyres after 1 decent preseason, aussies got his spot covered.

Good article on HS which is obviously from the same interview with Bailey, he's said Wona & Gys are being considered & several players from last weeks senior team need to prove in tomorrows main training session that they still deserve their spots.

Sort of thing I like to hear after a loss like that, players are being put on notice when under performing.
