The club is losing me at the selection table

1. Stiffy was probably our best small forward against the Bombers
2. nutter has missed a month and there should only be a few players that have the right to return after missing a month of footy, Nutter is not one of them
3. tackling is our weakness and we do nothing at selection to add personnel who set the example in this area

I know that we all love Sando however I'm starting to get concerned that their are gold passes being handed out at the selection table & that my mail from a Geelong official re their doubts on Sando ro make tough calls on players is starting to show signs

I hope my concerns are proved wrong

A poor finals series from a -small forward- and we're writing the bloke off. Good work squires.

Nahas had a very good 2012, however had a poor ame avaunt Carlton and finds himself out of the team this week

That's creating selection pressure

On Nutter, when we have a full list there would only be 6-7 players I would bring in after missing a month, Nutter is not one of these. That's my concern

As opposed to writing off the whole team?

And it's not just the finals series, the guy has played **** all football just like Petrenko. We can't afford to have 2 underdone forwards.

Well played, Sir. Well played.

That's not true. We had a couple who contributed in all 3, some in only 2, some in only 1 but some in none. Callinan falls into the latter and I'm not picking on him. I don't believe he's a walk up start that gets a game with limited match fitness.
Ok. Who is our next best small forward?

How many goals did they kick last year? Lets see how he plays before we start saying he isn't fit.

what does lynch have to do seriously to get a game?
to replace who and play in which position?

I honestly don't know yet where his best position is and i think the club is in the same boat??

Hendo
Play him exactly the same way we played scott stevens, mainly in defense but if needed up forward

Who's underdone? Callinan?
Why are you rolling your eyes? He hasn't played for a month. Petrenko played for a half before he was selected.

So what are your thoughts on playing underdone players?

Side note, having a crack at the Adelaide Board on the Brisbane Board isn't cool. We've got genuine reasons to question this selection, your contribution has been to tell us off and roll your eyes.

No ....Sando has said he likes to have pace on the game ....Hendo provides genuine pace and positional flexibility
Lynch is the opposite .....not a good swap IMO

Stevens comparison is wrong as theres a height diff and Stevens was much better in the air than Lynch

I can't see Brodie Martin ever being a full time AFL player with us.
Nice to have someone agree with me at last.. I've been saying this for at least the last 18 months - frequently to less than receptive audiences.

SP - when did you start posting intelligently? There are several of your posts this evening that found me in violent agreement with you. :thumbsu:

As I see it, the changes are fairly simple:
Callinan <--> Martin
Crouch <--> Johncock

The first change might be unpopular with Martin fans, but the reality is (as the AFC selectors have consistently shown) that Callinan is regarded as a "best 22" player and an automatic selection. Martin is not and probably never will be - he was always selected last week on the basis of being "best available", merely keeping Callinan's seat warm for his return. With Callinan passed fit to play, Martin's omission was virtually automatic.

The inclusion of Crouch should have had most of you cheering from the rafters - but the fact that it came at Johncock's expense has resulted in less than raucous approval. It's been pretty damn obvious for quite a while now that Sando doesn't rate Johncock as a defender - and I can understand why. Stiffy was never overly great at stopping his direct opponent - what he was great at was running off his opponent, creating drive and thrust with our ball movements out of defence. The tactic of playing through Stiffy's opponent, forcing him to be accountable and limiting his creativity, has been around for several years now. Thus it was that Stiffy was moved to the forward line, where his creativity could be given full expression. However, with Porps, Pets, Callinan and Stiffy all competing for positions up there (even if Porps plays part time in the midfield), there are probably one too many small forwards. Pets has the defensive thing down pat, even if he's completely useless offensively. Porps' selection is a no-brainer and Callinan has been preferred to Stiffy for quite a while now (hence Stiffy's wearing of the lime bib on several occasions last year). In the end they brought a midfielder into the mix (Crouch) and deleted one of our many small forwards - and I doubt they spent long mulling over which one to drop.

You seem to contradict yourself a bit there Vader.

You state the changes are fairly simple and that Johncock has made way for Crouch and then spend the rest of your post telling us that Callinan was preferred to Johncock.

Crouch for Martin is fair enough as we all want Crouch in, and we are replacing a mid with a mid. But replacing Stiffy for Callinan considering Callinan hasnt played for awhile is the issue. We saw how good Petrenko was last week after only playing a half in the preseason.

Bickley even said Stiffy was unlucky to be dropped considering the form of others.

I find this bit interesting, as this is what posters were complaining about after last weeks game, our lack of drive out of defence. I understand shut-down defence isn't his strength, but I'm not sure if that is our problem. He is still a much better defender than Jaensch.

Nobody would accuse me of being a fan of Jaensch, but I'm far from convinced that the bolded bit is actually true. It used to be true.. but is it still true in 2013?
