Changes for Bulldogs

Barham plays mostly inside mid at VFL level whihc makes him the natural replacement for O'Bree. Quite a logical change considering our need for speed and tackling pressure to take on the Western Bull Dogs.

Invig addressed it above but 16 handball recieves says he is playing anything but inside. He certainly has a fearless attack at the loose ball but he is not an inside ball winner by any stretch.

He has been starting as an inside mid at VFL level at the beginning of every quarter. I believe this to be mostly to be to get him used to the pressure of congested situations. He is both a receiver who can run and carry effectively and a tackler who doesn't so much get the hard balls but will tackle the player with the ball to cause a turnover giving 2nd and 3rd efforts.

I see him as being able to play a bit of both really like the rest of our midfield rotation who alternate between playing inside and out so that is no real concern. O'Bree was playing more outside + forward flank on the weekend, so Barham would be able to probably play that role better if the club needs him to play there. If Leon and Medhurst come back into the side also then he can become part of our already excellent midfield rotation and give us a bit of variety with his style of play.

Even if he plays inside at VFL level, there is no way he would at AFL level.

Ball, Swan, Pendlebury and Beams is more than enough, assuming O'Bree is dropped.

We don't need a like for like swap with O'Bree, we're probably playing with one too many inside midfielders anyway.

I'm not convinced Barham should be playing AFL just yet, but if he gets a go, good luck to him I guess.

Running to receive is an important role, no question, but if you're that outside as a player you need to hit targets by foot, there's no getting around it. I hear Barham has improved in this area, my observations in VFL are that he's improved in this area, but I won't be convinced until I see it at AFL tempo.

I am of the same demeanour.
Have heard a lot about how well he is playing and would like to see him get a run sooner or later.

Really Wood & Anthony & Obree need to make may. Big bad leroy Brown in to pinch hit in ruck & go forward at times. 2 of either Medhurst, Davis, Lockyer, Barham. In all honesty why is Wood in this side at all has averaged under 40% game time over last two weeks and is basically useless. Fraser when fit is head and shoulders above him and thats saying something

But he doesn't do enough. He probably won't go because he is one of Mick's favourites, but he should go because two tackles from him last week were not enough for a player that doesn't do much else. He is a handy player of course, and good depth, but he is not in Collingwood's best team.

In: Barham, Davis, Medhurst
Out: O'Bree, Macaffer, Anthony

Tarkyn Lockyer and Nathan Brown will also be considered for possible inclusion, but I think that Cameron Wood will keep his spot for another week.Maybe he won't play, but he is expected to be fit for selection as this article states...

COLLINGWOOD is a chance to recall small forwards Paul Medhurst and Leon Davis this week in a bid to address its misfunctioning forward line. Medhurst and Davis trained yesterday and are expected to be fit for Sunday's critical clash with the Western Bulldogs. Collingwood has struggled to kick goals in recent weeks.

Medhurst has missed the past three weeks with a stress reaction in his foot but is expected to be fit to return this week. He kicked four goals in the first-round win over the Dogs. Davis was suspected to have been omitted last week rather than injured, but he was listed as suffering a calf strain and did not play in the VFL.

Small forward Brad Dick has played just two VFL games after returning from injury and is not yet in consideration. Cont...

When did Cook have as many possessions as Barham? He certainly hasn't when comparing both players in their senior appearances to date, and Cook hasn't gone close this year in the VFL so far either. It seems you've made that up, so he should not be compared to Cook of course. Last season, Barham also had 9 contested possessions against Brisbane, and 11 contested possessions against St.Kilda, and apparently his disposal has improved by taking more time instead of kicking when running at top speed. You haven't really thought too deeply about this have you? Jaxson Barham could quite realistically replace either Shane O'Bree or Brent Macaffer, and he can certainly offer more than O'Bree did last week and his role in the team is not required currently. Barham is a a better player than the last picked for most other teams, and I think Collingwood would have won last week had he played.

There are players already in the team that can improve their contested possessions from last week which were disappointing and cost Collingwood the win. They simply did not work hard enough in the second half against Brisbane when the opposition did.I don't quite understand the point you're trying to make. What is your message exactly?

its not my fault you can't understand simple things.

firstly barham is a receiver not a an inside mid. He had 16 handball receives. he butchers the ball by foot. Hows that going to win games of footy.

a.) cook did have as many possessions on the weekend finished with 20 odd. barham is a reciever! he had 16 handball receives. wow. why are you talking about last year?? im talking about what they did on the weekend. you can't select a player on what he did last year this is about current form!! Did i make that up??

b.) rhyce shaw, king, wasley barham =all shit as each other.

C.) to say we would of beat brisbane if barham played?? turn it up.. well there goes any credibility you had.

At the end of the day you must reward people who have shown good form. In addition at some stage Mick will want to blood a new player. We have not blooded one as yet and we are nearly at the half way mark and coming off 2 losses.

So I think the following ins as follows:-

Barham for his recent form

Rounds to blood a new player

Fraser cause he offers more than Leroy

Outs

Anthony or Dawes for Rounds

Wood for Fraser

O'Bree for Barham

I would still like to have Tarks in but you have to give some incentive to the younger players

Seems Meds and Leon both trained today, and will most likely be included in the 25 man squad tonight, but are by no means certs of playing on Sunday.

“We’ll train today and then we’ll just see how they pull up, and then we’ll have an assessment,” Malthouse said on Thursday.

“We don’t play until Sunday at 4.40pm. We’ve got to put the side in this afternoon, so it’s highly unlikely that the squad we pick is going to be the side that we play.Of most concern for the Pies is the fitness of forward Paul Medhurst, who has missed three matches with a foot injury.

He and fellow small forward Leon Davis (calf) both trained on Thursday and will push for a recall against the Bulldogs.

Now look here, I'm at the stage where I don't care whether we play Tarks, Dick, Wood, JA or DaVe's granny - I just want the Pies to win. We have no excuse this week, with Johnson and Aker out.

Just do it boys - or we'll all be supping sorrow with the spoon of grief.
