in: mcveigh, mcphee
out: watson (inj), nlm

slattery stays in as he can take medhurst. i think welsh will go to didak. hocking to swan. mcphee to cloke as he destroyed him last time. pears to anthony. fletcher takes their spud of choice (l.brown or rocca etc), dempsey to dick and perhaps reimers or dyson to l.davis?

lovett-murray is unlucky but could consider himself fortunate to get a game after 3 weeks suspension in the first place.

if watson somehow comes up there is going to be a very unlucky midfielder/utility - one of skipworth, lonergan, hocking, dyson...and they all played well. i'm trying to contain my exicitement but i think our depth has been gradually improving to a high level - in a year or so this side could be akin to geelong at present in terms of depth.

Dyson might be finding a bit of form but really good sides have players like him just outside the 22.

A flippant and vexatious line all in one. He'd walk into Collingwood's side tomorrow, and they're an alleged really good side. Unless of course you were only referring to Geelong and St.Kilda

Well, whats a really good side? One that can challenge for the flag... Geelong, Saints and possibly Bulldogs.

Would he get a game at any of them?

Geelong - no chance, Saints and Dogs possibly but he'd be in that 20-24 range. He should be trying to reproduce the form Montagna is showing at the Saints. That's the level he should be aiming for and he's not there yet, not even close.

He's still playing like a second or 3rd year kid with promise. Doing enough to get a game and hold his spot but not imposing himself. I'm really curious to see how he'll go next year after another pre season and a year of good form and confidence.

Dyson is getting some important roles in our backline at the moment, he also did a very good job on Heath Scotland at times Friday night! Dempsey was far worse than Dyson. He also gained the 3rd most amount of meters on the ground, even more than the great WELSHY!(awsome) come on Kelvin you just dont look far enough into things, theres alot of things that go on to make the Bomber machine tick.

Well answer this for me Kelvin,

Say Essendon would be a side that would be able to challenge for the flag next year. Would he get a game for Essendon?

IN: McVeigh
OUT: Watson

Given the team is playing fairly well and we have a good balance I see no reason to change it. McPhee is stiff not to come straight back in but it's a good sign. As mentioned earlier, players should be dominating the seconds before being considered for the seniors. Let guys like Zaka and Hurley gain fitness and strength in the twos, there is no need to rush them.

With regards to Dyson, he seems to be playing more of a defensive role now that we have our main midfield back and firing hence having less stats. He deserves his spot, undoubtedly.

If you did have to drop players you'd think that Skipworth and NLM would be top of the list. I'm not nuts for NLM but for some reason it just seems right having him in the team!

I think it'll be McVeigh and McPhee in for Watson and NLM.

I'd like to keep NLM but he's the obvious candidate for McPhee, who hopefully can shut Cloke down again.

If he improves again then possibly yes.

He's competing with McVeigh, Welsh, Watson, Stanton, Prismall, Winderlich, Lovett, Lonergan, Hocking, Reimers and then kids coming through like Zaharakis. You can't fit all in the one side.

Then there's everyone's fave high draft pick in Myers who people think will start coming good and playing midfield.

Prior to this year and possibly the first few games prior to Anzac Day he was a dud in the same vein as Nash. It's great that he's been able to turn it around and give the side something. He needs to go up a cog to cement his spot because we now have some serious competition for midfield places.

I hope he can go up a cog becuase he gives us a kicking dynamic that can complement our bash and crash guys. He still gives it up too easily under pressure and in contests as evidence by his disposal efficiency. His kicking is very good now and he rarely wastes it.

As a Dyson supporter. I would agree he has one more step to make. His kicking is amazing sometimes. For example, the pass to Lucas on the lead, he pumped that from the middle of the centre square.

Twice as good considering his confidence might have been down after he missed that goal.

I agree. NLM probably doesn't really deserve to lose his spot but i think McPhee needs to come in.

McPhee comes in if he's available. Full stop. End of story.

He's a member of our leadership group, is versatile and is probably one of the hardest working players at the club.

Someone is going to be unlucky to miss out unfortunately and it may just come down to team balance.

Could Lucas be in the gun against a quick, rebounding Cwood backline ?
If he gets Maxwell I can see him running off Lucas all game.

I've been thinking about this and i reckon Houli has to come in. It will be a big mistake if he doesn't.

The Pies have too many small to medium guys that are a worry and Houli has shown that he can stop damaging small forwards.

We need to play Welsh in the midfield again as he will stop Swan without too much trouble.

Davis, Didak, Dick, Medhurst, Thomas..the list goes on. Houli must play this week.

Personally I think the only two candidates for inclusion will be McVeigh and McPhee, with the seconds playing today it's only a short break until Friday.

For mine this makes Hurley extremely unlikely as he's had a few weeks off as well, along with Bellchambers. Houli and Zaharakis maybes depending on their game time, which may be limited if they're under consideration.

Why's it a no-brainer?

And you can't compare Dyson to Stanton like that, they're completely different players tbh.

I probabyl wasn't clear enough.

NLM and McPhee are similar and could ultimately fight for the same role in the side.

Stanton and Dyson are not similar. The point was to ask why Dyson has his head on the chopping block each week around these parts when Stanton goes to water when the heat is on. The significance in what Kelvin pointed out should be in that Stanton was quiet when the heat was on. Who cares how well he plays when we have the run of play and slam on 8 straight or whatever it was? I know I dont.

It wouldn't bother me if Stanton wasn't lauded the way that he is. However Santon is lauded so I care.

Stanton was an integral part in us slamming on the 8 goals. Geez, he stepped up and it's one of the reasons we blasted them off the park.

Stanton cops a heavy tag each week because most coaches and people in the know actually rate how damaging he can be.

IIRC Dyson had 2 possessions in the first quarter when the heat was on. He did not have a hard tag on him. Dyson has proven over the years that he's gone to water more than most when the heat is on. To even compare him to Stanton is just plain stupid.

And none of these blokes really played up to the level that the boys in the side played on friday night.
There will only be McVeigh and McPhee back this week.
As for who goes out well Watson and ......
Hard to say as no one really deserves to be dropped.

Unbelievable people criticising Stanton.

If Stanton got Dyson's opponent every week he would have 50 possessions. Not potting Dyson either - he's having an excellent year.

You don't think Houli should be considered given that his form pre getting the virus was quite good and also because of match up issues against the Pies small/medium forwards?

Given that its hard enough to find someone to drop to fit McPhee in (McVeigh for Watson is a given) then who do we omit to bring Houli in.

Sides generally don't make 3 changes to teams that won by 12 goals the week before.

What's the deal with Neagle, Ant? This guy should be carving up in the VFL. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of him kicking a bag!

Why do people keep ignoring that Dyson plays defensive roles and keeps beating his opponent/s?

Dyson was moved from Simpson to Murphy to Gibbs throughout the night dependant on who was having the bigger impact on the side and took them out of the game.

Does the AFL have a 'Most Improved' award ?

Dyson would surely have to be right there.
