Changes for Collingwood

I've been thinking about this and i reckon Houli has to come in. It will be a big mistake if he doesn't.

The Pies have too many small to medium guys that are a worry and Houli has shown that he can stop damaging small forwards.

We need to play Welsh in the midfield again as he will stop Swan without too much trouble.

Davis, Didak, Dick, Medhurst, Thomas..the list goes on. Houli must play this week.

Completely agree, Collingwood, when firing have the hardest Forward Line to match up on in the league.

HF: didak cloke thomas
F: medhurst anthony dick

* Dempsey to Thomas (though Reimers will have been begging Knights all year)
* Pears to Anthony
* Hooker/McPhee to Cloke
* Fletcher/McPhee to peel off of Brown or Rocca (if malthouse decides he's worth a game)

The two hardest to tag are Didak and Medhurst... Slattery will probably take Medhurst again and he did a great job on Anzac day.
Houli could be a great matchup on Didak, similar build and pace, my other thought was McVeigh... Though with Jobe out, Spike's role will probably have to be more as a play maker at the clearances?

Irregardless, I think we do need Houli against a side that has so many dangerous mid sized forwards.

NLM was OK on Friday, As stated earlier in the thread McPhee is part of the leadership group and there is NO way that he is gonna come back thru Rezzies.
I don't think there is room for NLM, Hooker and McPhee in the same team

INS: McVeigh, Houli, McPhee
OUTS: Jobe, NLM, ?

You all know McPhee will come straight back in so don't know what your all on about.

Ins will be McVeigh and McPhee
Outs will be Watson and either NLM/Slattery
I don't know "what you're on about" in thinking Slattery should or will be dropped.

McVeigh and McPhee are two absolutely solid inclusions. There can be no argument about it.

Watson is the obvious out for McVeigh, the other could go two way IMHO

- McPhee for NLM

A like-for-like swap with McPhee. Both can play forward or back when required. I would say that McPhee is stronger as a pure defender in the one-on-one situation when compared with NLM. O'hAilpin beat NLM a few times on Friday night which wasn't great.

Nat Rat brings more to the side than it appears. His physical presence is terrific and I also feel he is the 'leader' of our indigenious boys. The likes of Lovett and Dempsey lift by having NLM next to them I feel.

- McPhee for Hooker

This isn't as obvious. On a pure comparison I would say at the moment NLM is a better player than Hooker. However Hooker is versatile in being able to play both ruck and key defense. Unless Rocca plays which is doubtful, Collingwood really only have Anthony, Cloke and Leigh Brown as tall forward targets. We have adequate defenders to cover this already.

By dropping Hooker, we can leave NLM to play on a smaller type defender or go forward , and pinch hit in the ruck against Brown. Obviously this would change if Collingwood bring in Wood with Bellchambers a chance to come in.

I'm not sure which way we will go to be honest.

Something tells me we may also see Houli back in the side this week against the Pies. I hope not as his disposal and decision making is still not up to scratch but his run and carry will be needed to negate the new fab 3 of Davis, Didak and Swan.

I'm hoping NLM is dropped, he didn't impress me at all while the game was in the balance. Often got caught watching his man rather than the ball. Too often in fact. Dyson needs to remain, he's really turned a corner this year.

What is awesome about this thread is that we are finally at a stage where you need to earn your place in the side.

Guys like Houli, Jetta, Zaharakis, Neagle etc are running around in the 2's, and there will be one more when Watson comes back. Barring major injuries those blokes will really need to step it up to make it back in the side.

I'm really happy with that as well. Houli and Jetta will hopefully get their chance again but we are building a list of 25+ quality players. I still feel sorry for Nash, I can't see him getting another game this year if our injury list stays healthy.

NLM was by far our worst player on the ground on Friday night. He can't play in the backline, he always gives up the front positioning, easy marks. If he plays for Essendon he needs to be on a wing or half forward. DROP HIM!!!

In's: Mcveigh & Mcphee if he has fully recovered
Outs: Watson & NLM ( if Mcphee is right to play)

Cant see any need for further changes.

Didak & Swan shape as the two to stop.

Welsh should play on Swan. If Hocking or Lonergan can stop Didak, then I think we should win by a comfortable margin.

Welsh and Swan would be a fantastic duel!

who's gona take neon leon? i'd be quite happy to let swan roam free, davis and didak are their most damaging smalls, not sure who's the best match up for davis though?

I reckon Welsh to go to swan
Hocking to go to Didak,
CD to go to Davis. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Davey gets a defensive role on davis. A bit left field, but could be a learning experience for the young Fella.

From Jobe Watson's Twitter 2 hours ago.

got some good news on the ankle, not sure if i will get up for the game but a much better chance than first thought. thankyou for the wishes

In: McVeigh, McPhee and Houli
Out: Watson, Skipworth and Hocking

Ofcourse, Skippy and Budda will be very unlucky. However, they are the two who have glaring negative to their game, compared to others. (ie. Pace).

I want to see Hurley in the side, but I just can't see it happening.

Jobe's Twitter post was optimistic ! I'm sure he'll be doing his best to get up for this week, though I don't know that the Dr would let him risk it.

Great news about Jobe, should indicate he'll be right for the Sydney game if not this week.

Matchups I'd like to see:

Pears - Anthony
Fletcher - Brown
Slattery - Medhurst
McVeigh - Didak
Dempsey - Dick
Dyson - Davis
Reimers - Thomas
Welsh - Swan
Monfries - Shaw

like the look of those matchups. add to that mcphee - cloke and i think we'll give em a mighty contest. also i think hooker is more likely for leigh brown, with fletch floating across and marshalling the troops.

I love that Fletch is there marshalling, but I do love to see Pears doing his share - definitely a future leader!!! :D

Zero chance Hocking will be out, he is a perfect matchup for Didak. Really think it depends on Watson. Doubt there will be more than one unforced change.

Forced change- Watson
Unforced change- NLM

Replacements- McVeigh, McPhee.

If Watson is fit, I can see McVeigh coming in for NLM.
