I would like Lyon to go back to our old structures of last year; I think the structures suit our list. Play extra players around the ball and behind, make the game contested. The benefits of this are that our strong inside mids can dictate the fate of the game and consequently play to our defenders strengths (quick kicks out of stoppages play into Ibbo’s and Spurs intercept marking game, and Dawson’s 3rd man up spoiling)
I think we can create more goals through team selection not game plan. Play with a defensive mindset but don’t play anyone that gives us nothing offensively, or has no upside. I feel if we continue with this attacking game plan teams like Brisbane will beat us, we have now lost 6 of the last 8 games, things may get messy, I’m not giving up on being a threat this season.

In Tucker
Out Clancy

And add in 2 weeks hopefully...

In Bennell Mora
Out Suban Barlow

Spurr Dawson Sheridan
Mora MJ Tucker
Hill Neale Bennell
Mayne AP Walters
Ballas Pav Weller
Sandi Fyfe Mundy
Ibbo DP Langdon Sutcliffe

Not sure I agree, but you know better than me with you footie knowledge I just hope you are right.

So don't bother with him and completely give up? Put all our hope into McCarthy and even if he does come, let him play as our only forward? Tabs might not be much, but I'd rather see us try and possibly fail with him, than not bother. We're about to go 0-4 without playing Hawks/Swans/Crows over there/Geelong, so there are a few more losses coming our way. I'd rather see Tabs and Apeness (when ready) play than watching Pav get double teamed and be screwed next year because those two haven't got much experience in them.

So in other words, just gift games to him because he is all we have, sounds terrific :drunk:

With A Pearce playing everywhere today, what are people's thoughts on his best position ?
I'm still undecided on him fwd, providing chop out to Sandi - gives us versatility though. Problem is with Pav and Mayne so weak atm it also robs the structure when he drifts into the middle.
Down back.

Hopefully trade bait at the end of the year, blokes finished.
An interesting transition, isn't it. 6 months ago there was mixed feelings on these forums about whether we should consider packaging him up with a pick for McCarthy. From memory, most thought the idea was ridiculous.

I think if you did a poll after Round 2, there'd be a substantial shift in sentiment.

I guess AP fwd was a needs based decision. Agree long term that his creative run and spoiling reach are better suited to the defensive half
He looks far more of a natural player down back and is a better spot for him to develop. But yeah needs..

Uebergang in his 3 match 8 mark 2 goal. The first goal uebergang assits it, because his body is not ready I don't want him to upgrade this year, if his body size is like Collins he will be my first choice after mora to upgrade from rookie list.
Didn't Tanner Smith kick 4 goals vs East Freo recently? Ubergang is still skinny but I would give him 1 more shot later in the season. Mayne has to be dropped. I rather bring Bennell in or Yarran. Suban or Clancee has to be dropped and bring in Griffin. dont want Collins in yet, let him debut in round 5

The thing with Tanner is inconsistent and slow with his disposal therefore his assists turn into 50/50 ball.
Our peel forward line with Smith and Tab is so slow in the first half vs swan.

Pre season uebergang
Peel vs swan district 1 goal few assist
Peel vs Claremont 2 goal few assist

Season proper
Peel vs subi 1 goal or o goal few assist
Peel vs East freo 1 goal few assist
Peel vs swan 2 goal few assist

I have no idea who to drop....And who to bring in!
But, I would simply say that our midfield should be primarily focused around Fyfe, Hill and Weller.....Fast, skilled.
Change them with Mundy and Neale off a forward flank or bench.....

I like Clancee's ball use, although he only stands out right now because of the whole team being shot of skills. If he had a bigger tank he would never leave B22. 1st half of last season he was fantastic, compared to his 2nd half he seems to have found some of that again.

Old game plan wins us nothing and if the Rochmonds of the world can pull it apart then so will everyone else eventually

Did you went to watch him play or based on stats and wafl news? Look at afl website Mayne and d.Pearce stats is still better than Langdon and Weller. Tabs disposal with peel is like freo disposal last night.
No they are not.

I'll take Langdons 15 disposals at 92% disposal efficiency over Danyle Pearces 16 disposals at 37%.

C.Pearce 78.5 ? Better than hills

C.Pearce 78.5 ?
Yes but as others had pointed out most of Clancee's disposals were dinky handballs to players under pressure. He was putrid when it counted.

Weller on the other hand setup a few goals and had around 76% disposal efficiency as well. He played quite well last night and has an enormous amount of upside.

I'd be happy with no changes. Let Tabs regain/build his confidence. De Boer played well enough but I don't think he offers anything extra over the incumbents. Play Tucker when he is ready - not next week.

Ballas out for deboer. At least deboer might get his hands on it and be more effective with defensive pressure. Play deboer as a pocket not a flanker.

The last thing we need is another crap kick in the back line, so no grey for me.

I wouldn't be against bringing tucker in, he won't do much but at least he can kick and runs. His opponent in will cut him up but he will learn from it.

I'm not worried about losing I just want to see us develop the kids where we have holes.

I think the club has recognised that clearly this is not the direction the game is evolving (I.e. Not how the AFL is forcing the game to evolve) and have decided to go with the tide and change our style with it.

I'd love to continue winning by sticking with our old structures, but I think in the long run we are better off taking the knock and the pain of transitioning on a year when we are clearly a step behind and not in a position to contend. It will allow us to phase the old guard out and train the new in a new system.

A big knock on Ross is his inability to adapt to an attacking plan. He's clearly trying to do that, and I think it was the right decision to give him security of tenure to do that rather than put him under pressure and give him no incentive to change.

yes he did. He got 20 disposals off half back flank. Groomed him as a duffield replacement

The trouble with Grey is that his strengths and weaknesses are the 180 degree opposite of Duffield's.

He's hard as a cat's head and will provide a fierce contest, but his disposal in transition out of defence is atrocious.

I hope Al Pearce and Langdon don't get dropped. Al Pearce in my opinion is playing a role similar to Westoff at Port. Tall but skinny. Yet playing both ends. He was running everywhere last night. Langdon should stay on determination alone
