Ross will probably play DeBoer in the guts, along with Barlow, Neale and Suban to free up / protect Mundy, Hill, Fyfe etc. He (and Barlow) are ideally suited to the role of getting in and ball extraction. May also use him to run with an opposition mid like Shuey.

I think Hill has to play in the guts, he stepped up last week when he was finally put on ball in the second half.

Worse mod ever having a melt I see.

De Boer dominated in the WAFL and has been rewarded for good form. Good on him.

He should dominate in the WAFL. He's twice the size and twice as fit as the amateurs he's playing against.

But when he plays in the AFL, those things equal out and he's shown up for his horrendous skills.

I think this is a really poor selection effort and I am now more than ever convinced that the Eagles will hand us a flogging of truly biblical proportions. We are severely lacking in tall backs - Collins would have been ideal to blood here. No way Sheridan will handle Darling as lined up.

Our mids may do alright but I think their forward line will party party party. Our forward line which comprises two short people, an old man and a headless chook will be too busy guarding space and performing pressure acts to kick goals.

Our best hope is a deluge that slows everyone down to Barlow-speed

All is ruin.

I hope I don't come across as too pessimistic.

Glad Langdon, Weller and Pearce have kept their spots.

Agree, could easily make a case for A.Pearce to be dropped. He was not in great form last week, but his work rate was solid and he showed his versatility which Tabs doesn't have. I guess that keeps him in and Tabs out for now.

Also would hate to see a mery-go-round develop between those two. It's bad enough Tabs can't get a consistent run at top level, don't want AP ending up in the same situation. So, yeah, glad he stayed in.

Who else was available to come in? Outside of Silvagni and Mzungu Tucker was always going to be a gamble and Crozier/Hughes not ready.

Truth is there is nobody else to come in. The next wave of legitimate ins will be when Morabito, Bennell and Yarran are fit.
As much as I like the romance of it, Darcy Tucker and Sam Collins are first year players and it is not in Ross Lyon's DNA to play them. Of course injury can change that thinking and there may be a first time for everything but it would be a major departure in Ross' process.
The only others for consideration are Hughes who isn't ready yet by any assessment, Blakely who is injured and probably needs a bit of polish on his disposal and Grey who I personally don't see as being a significant upgrade on any current players in the side.

We have to control the game with better ball use, but we also have to get better at getting the ball back when the opposition has it.

I'm ok with De Boer's selection because he has speed and can pressure opposition into making mistakes.

leave the sprinklers on overnight, Moorabbin style?

If thats the case all AFL listed players should dominate incl the youngsters. They don't so that statement re De Boer doesn't hold water.

So remind me who is missing from the side that flogged West Coast in the first derby of 2015? One defender (albeit the best one in the history of FFC - L McPharlin). And in the forward line, Crozier (2015) is out for Ballantyne (2016) who kicked 4 goals last week.

See, I just can't hold my tongue any more on this. What magical Fyfe cloning device do you have that can bring in changes that would alter our fortunes so dramatically?

Yeah, some players are not in great form, but there really isn't much to come in to shake things up except for basically untried rookies (or as good as), out of form hopefuls (Crozier) or injured players.

As for your one suggestion, Colins would have been killed by their extremely high quality and well balanced fwd half. Yeah, it would have been good for his experience, but it would do very little to change how the game pans out.

Not only directed at you directly Jack, but those wanting to drop half the team - get real or hold your posts please.

I really hope you're not referring to my solitary sentence as a melt, worse(sic) mod thing aside. I actually agree FWIW and expected him to come in last week, just would have preferred something not painfully predictable- like seeing Tucker get a surprise debut or Tbas getting an early recall.

I thought it was lach he was referring to

You should get to the game . TV coverage and commentators give a false impression of whats happening. Dawson was our best defender one game ago. Short memories seem to be a problem on here.
Been to every home game in the last 9 years buddy. I listen to abc while I'm at the game. It gives you 2 views at once.

We lacked pressure and we brought in a hard tackler.

Im not sure what some people wanted, but 5 changes every week isn't going to cut it. Even the right changes, the magical chemistry of the right players isn't going to be present in the first game of a certain combination.

West Coast are a vastly better side than early last year and we have gone backwards. Ballantine kicked his four goals in a team that lost to the Suns at home. The Suns FFS.

Do you have me on ignore? The bit he quoted had Dawson's name mentioned on it.
I don't have you on ignore as I haven't had many if any interactions with you from what I recall.

The youngsters haven't had 7 years of strength and conditioning training as a professional athlete. DeBoer has.

All of our senior players dominate in the WAFL when they play there. Then they play AFL and spud it up because they aren't skillful enough.

Watch the Suns game? Despite dominating all relevant stats, we lost that game due to poor defense from the centre square bounce (which is normally our strength) and some players are finding form (as evidenced by poor disposal efficiency). But did you see the West Coast game? They were absolutely destroyed across all major stats (458-293 disposals, 68-34 inside 50s; 303-153 uncontested possessions) and the disposal efficiency of most of their players was as bad (if not worse) than our players.

Yes, WC have a better forward line (excluding small forwards) but they need supply to score. Freo has a superior midfield to West Coast. Both defenses are leaking.

What a load of rubbish re Collins. Marcus Adams was more a forward for west Perth, playing in defence and played well... How can you say Collins would be dominated?? From the two games you've seen for peel? For the games at box hill you watched? Sometimes when given a chance, people rise.

I agree on the other points though :)

Collins lack chemistry also with Johnson and other. Adams playing with the team in Nab series.
