We can all agree that it's time to play the kids, yeah? It sounds kinda ridiculous to say it's season-over at 3-2. But that has to have been a massively confidence-sapping loss, and we've given every other team the blueprint for how to beat us. I just want us to start planning for the future rather than dragging out the same mediocrity every week.

If Duggan or Nelson (surely not) get dropped for the derby, so help me....
Classic Eagles match committee this week: "We underperformed who should we drop? How about Jetta for Duggan?"

I feel that is always takes injuries for us to actually make positive changes at the selection table.

A few years ago it was losing our entire backline.
Darling last week.
Priddis every time he's injured.

The only injury that we haven't improved upon is probably NN/Lycett.

So 'hopefully' this week we are forced into replacements for Gaff, Cripps and Shep.
Not because they've been bad, but because we might actually get some new faces to show they can play at the top level.

If they drop Sheed and Duggan they need to uppercut themselves, both showed more fight and intent than the majority of the senior group.

Duggo is so close to being able to have a major impact, you can see he's trying his guts out and he loves the physical stuff, one of the few that was prepared to take the tackle and get his hands dirty.

Masten can **** right off, soft, slow panic merchant that offers absolutely nothing unless the teams on top.

It's not injuries that make us play better it's when we have low expectations we play better and falter when we get pumped up. 2011 went top 4 after everyone had us finishing bottom 4 then then at the dived backed down in 2013 when we were declared premiership favourites. 2015 we were rated as a bottom 8 side after backline injuries but made the gf and the. Dipped the 18 months after.

Yeah Duggan looks like a player even though he's not quite performing.
He just needs time.

The moment on the wing where wanted to take on the player and got in a tangle was unfortunate, but if his teammate (can't remember who it was) put a block on or did something instead of standing behind in no-mans-land looking for a cheap touch he would have been OK.

Duggan goes in hard and looks to make the play, he just doesn't have the finishing skills yet, but when he does he'll be a great player.

When was the last time a captain was dropped? Hurn should resign at the end of the season, bloke is shit leader. Shuey straggled early on but gave his all and actually ended up having a decent game.

Its clearly a mental problem and the weight of exception that causes either doubt or over confidence.

Like I said on the game day thread, our mental fortitude is embarrassing. There's a handful that do bust a guy like Shuey will crack in, so will prid and gaff will still run his heart out but the rest are embarrassing.

Oh yeah, that's true.

My point was more about the changes made week to week only appear to be positive when a change is forced via injury.

When was the last time a change raised eye brows when an under-performing senior was dropped... Wellingham?

They just aren't playing for each other. Somewhere along the line the team has fractured. There is no common intent or purpose to their play, its all haphazard individualist stuff. A shared hardship which they can all rally around is what is missing. Those that are or have been in Defence know where I'm coming from.

In: Karpany, Mitchell, Mutimer, Giles
Out: Cripps, Butler, Redden, Schofield (Gov to go back)
In terms of the supposed injury concerns:
Cole to come in if Sheppard is out
Schofield stays in if Gov is out
Partington to come in if Gaff is out, but we might be playing too many kids already, so it'll probably be Jetta... :straining:

If gaff and Gov are injured then these are my changes

Out redden cripps Gov gaff
In Mitchell Mutimer Giles karpany

FB Hurn Barrass Sheppard
HB Nelson Schofield Yeo
C Masten Priddis Sheed
HF Wellinghan Darling Duggan
FF Lecras Kennedy Karpany
R Giles Shuey Mitchell
B Butler Mutimer Hill Vardy

Would have liked to thrown a few more seniors out but no gaff, Gov and Cripps is huge.

Sometimes the best thing to click a side into gear is games like these bit I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think modern footy involves team defence and if you aren't defending as a team, you get carved up. I just cannot fathom how they can look so disinterested when they are rated as a contender and all know ln to be a tight knit group.

Playing the kids doesn't mean you're giving up on the season.

Look at Freo and how they've turned it around with a few changes.

I agree - Nelson shows that youthful energy could be just what we need. But our match committee seem largely unwilling to take risks and mix things up

Nelson must be moved into the midfield eventually. Other than Shuey we really lack a hard-nosed player that will crack in with total disregard to himself. Yesterday was a huge step in the right direction for jacko. Would like to see simmo challenge him to turn him self into a mid and add a few kgs on.

Also people wanting Duggan and sheed dropped remember that giving kids a consistent crack can be beneficial. Neither duggo or sheed were terrible. Sheed found the ball and had some nice work in congestion and Duggan went in hard. Confidence will go a long way and both need to be backed in.

We have now hit the cross roads, if we don't want to see this team flounder for the next few years the likes of Duggan and Sheed must remain in the team. We also need to find space for the likes of Mutimer and Partington, both have plenty of mongrel. If that means we will be down for a bit then so be it, at least we may see some heart injected back into the team.

Agree. I say if we miss finals this year, we should try and move players on. Say bye to Priddis, Mitchell, lecca, and Butler. Cut our losses with redden and Jetta. End Hurns capataincy and try to trade a few players out. Then back youth and really try to nail the draft.

I thought Nelson was probably our best player. He had a crack, and his disposal was first rate.He needs to go into the midfield.Leave Duggan and Sheed in there.Do our troubles begin at the top? Simpson was a good player but soft,Cox was a good player but soft,Longmure the same.Hurn a good corporate citizen buuuuuut:The drug years have taken all the mongrel out of our team.

Imo we need to find the right balance. That's why Shuey should have been made captain. I'm ok with simmo a but like the team, he has a mountain to work to turn this Titanic over.

For me Redden and Masten can be the players that could make way for Parto and Mutimer. Redden has been serviceable but like a few other he just doesn't stand up when we play away.

This is the week we should at least give Mutimer a crack and by the end of the year i want to see Cole & Rioli in the team to over take Butler and Hill.
