Not sure if these calls to drop Toovey are serious? They're a quick side, Toovey is our quickest defender. His job isn't to damage with accumulation or disposal, it's to blanket his opponent.

INS: Wellingham, Anthony, Presti
OUTS: O'Bree, Macaffer, N.Brown

Presti back to take on Pav

B - O'Brien Presti Toovey
HB - Shaw Reid Maxwell
C - Thomas Swan Wellingham
HF - Didak Cloke Davis
F - Medhurst Dawes Anthony
R - Jolly Pendlebury Ball
INT - Wood Johnson Sidebottom Beams

Presti will not follow Pav, Pav plays all over the ground and Presti will not have the tank. Id expect brown/reid and Maxwell double team when he is up forward and then tag team through the midfield when he goes in their.

In: Presti, Wellingham
Out: N.Brown (unlucky), O'Bree

Must play Presti. Pavlich is an absolute gun and when he's most dangerous, is when he's forward. We need our best stopper on him.

If Pav goes up the ground, which he will at some point, while still very good, he is less dangerous there then up forward.

Presti can take the resting giraffe at times too.

When Pav goes up the ground Presti wont play on him but IMO when he is dangerous in the forward 50 why wouldnt we put our best stopper on him?

I was having a look at our team that played Fremantle last year. Interesting in that we
played Dawes, Anthony and Cloke in the same team with Leigh Brown and Fraser doing the ruck work. Anthony kicked 4 that game, Cloke kicked 3 and Dawes kicked a couple. With Anthony kicking bags in the VFL, I wouldn't be surprised if he got a call up. This will stretch their defence.

I'm not sure who would make way for him though. Perhaps MacAffer, although i like his work around the ground and always uses the pill well. He has also had high numbers for tackles.

im sorry guys, macaffer out, anthony in is not the right swap
caff is used everywhere around the ground, has good skills good speed and applies pressure
JA is a 3rd tall option in the forwardline
Caff has been part of a successful side thats been winning by an average of about 10 goals, so why do we need another forward target
Team balance is fine, JA's time will come again but not now and not at the expense of the caff

the only selection dilemma i see is who goes out if sheriff is up and about
logic dictates obree as he was sheriffs replacement and i dont think cheesy is the right way to go against freo at subi

Wood will play i think theres no need to risk josh over there, if he wasnt fully fit he might get another week off

cant see the need for presti to come in. yes him vs pavlich inside 50 is going to be won by presti, but if pav runs through the middle i fancy reid as a better chance of keeping up. cant drop him or N.brown after the kangawhos game.

at this point in time id keep it as
out: obree
in: wellingham

I am of the line of thinking that Presti won't get Pav regardless of whether he plays or not. Pav pushes all over the ground and isn't an ideal match up for Presti. I see N Brown getting him in the 50 and one of Maxwell / Harry / Reid (although that would be a massive show of faith) given the task to go with him higher up the ground.

With that in mind I think Presti should probably be given an extra week.

I personally would go with only Out: O'Bree In: Wellingham. On the basis that it's a like for like swap and a bit of a horses for courses selection O'Bree in against a side that lacks a bit of footspeed and given his chance and Wellingham given a rest and then Wellingham back in and O'Bree out so we aren't so slow against a really quick side on a big ground.

That said I can see someone like Beams, Macaffer or Sidebottom being rested for Wellingham to come in on the basis of this rotation type selection.

Early in the season and while we are winning I am actually all for this system, I think it gives the coaching panel a good chance to work out what line ups and structures work best, keeps everyone fresh and puts a lot of pressure on spots. In theory it should also mean if we are in a strong position later in the year we can continue to play our best side through the end of the season and build good momentum going into finals rather then the traditional resting guys at the end of the season which can just take away a tad from that momentum of the side.

Who are we putting Presti on?

Who are we putting Brown/Reid on? I can understand your reasoning but to not field our strongest team in such a big game doesnt make sense to me.

I dont see Geelong dropping Scarlett in similar scenarios. We should play to our strengths not the oppositions and to me Presti is our best defender bar none.

I'm with Krueger.

Nathan Brown and Presti are essentially the same sort of player, with the same strengths and weaknesses. Only Presti's better.

Plus, we just look more solid as a unit with Presti back there.

wow, this is getting really hard...training must be intense atm...I guess it all comes down to player management and travelling to Perth. Wellingham must come back in and Wood must go out...from there flip a coin. Brown has played the role asked of him perfectly. Reid will give us the xtra run and long direct kicks on the big ground. Will they leave Presti in Melbourne fresh for a big Geelong game? The one thing I can't decide on is if there's room for Anthony and Dawes - you can't drop Caff you lose the versatility.

I'd love to here the selection committee meetings...

the players who have come into the side have made cases to stay in...they weren't just replacements like is usually the case.

Other than Wood any other player dropped is stiff. In saying that there is probably no room for Ball O'Bree and Shazza ( and Blair who keeps putting his hand up ) so you pick the best two of those players.

Hopefully, Fraser is right for Wood and Wellingham in for O'Bree

We can match up well on Freo...I am just worried about having fresh players for the following Friday night. Backing up from Subiaco against Geelong will be tough. So I am going to leave Presti home this week - sorry guys. lol
