Changes for Game 2?

I reckon he'd a good choice, but as you said his age will prevent the clown selectors from picking him.The odd thing is they may pick a 36yo [nearly 37] to debut in the Test against SA in a few weeks.

I was thinking the same thing. Every single person on here is claiming McGain to be the saviour but nobody is willing to pick any batsmen over 30 any more.

I would bring Hughes in, obviously a special talent and probably the prefect opportunity to give him some experience. Am a little concerned with the inexperience of the opening pair as Marsh and Warner have looked a little lost in the opening overs of late. Other option is to open with Haddin/Clarke and play Hughes in the middle order.

Voges and Ferguson have both had good seasons and should be at the top of the queue for any middle order vacancies. Noffke is another I would consider now he's fit, don't think we lose too much in the batting dept if he were to replace Hopes and offers another strike option with the ball.

I do not mind White as a number 6/7, unfairly maligned as a batsman imo. Offers power hitting in the late overs and has not had the opportunity of late to come in at 5/220 in the 42nd over and finish the innings off, which is the perfect role for him. He has been coming in at 5/100 and asked to rescue the innings after the top order have failed.

Hughes
Warner
Clarke
Hussey D
Voges/Ferguson
Haddin
White
Noffke
Bracken
Hilfenhaus
Tait

Johnson (rotatation)
Hopes (rotation)

Hughes - needs exposure to international cricket
Warner
Klinger - is in excellent form in all forms of cricket (average of 61 in FRC), we need someone who can bat through
Clarke
Ferguson - see Hughes
Voges - simply has to play, better than D Hussey and White
Haddin
Hopes
Geeves - offers more with both bat and ball than Hilfenhaus
Bracken
Tait

I think we all know there will be minimal changes. Probably Katich, White and maybe Hilfenhaus will play. But how about being brave and trying some different players.

With Ponting/Marsh out, I'd play:

Jaques
Hughes (Warner dropped/rotated)
Hodge (or Katich of Hodge is not fit)
Clark
Symonds (D. Hussey keeps going out to crap shots)
M. Hussey
Haddin
Hopes
Bracken
Hilfenhaus
Tait

Surely if Symonds is fit to bat he can bowl 5 overs of offies, with Clark bowling 5 of his.

Something that has stood out is how valuable a quality one day spinner is. We don't have one. Botha and Vetorri have both strangled our middle overs. That's why we need Symonds to hit over the top.

OUT:
Warner - The joke's gone on long enough. You can't carry pinch-hitters in ODI that don't offer anything else.

Dussey - Poor man's Hussey and i don't much rate Hussey either. Sure he's good at that 6 spot guiding them after a collapse ala Bevan. But Bevan got found out trying to bat higher up the order just like Mr Cricket has been found out.

Haddin - Too much laughing and giggling for my liking. Tries party tricks all the time and just acts like he's guaranteed the WK spot for life. Keeping is average, batting is average.

Bracken - His variety is overrated and he looks and acts like a girl. Also too much laughing and arrogance "Yay im so good because of my economy rate compared to the others so im a gun" (even though we keep losing). He has the Zoe Goss angle where Batsmen don't challenge him because they don't want to get out to a girl. Overall no intimidation.

White - I feel bad for the guy because the vic mafia gifted him a spot that he knows he don't deserve deep down. Just let him bowl ffs for an extended period and see what he's got. Or else drop him and call him up later.

BORDERLINE

Mitch Johnson - Another clown that smiles too much considering he's a fast bowler and ain't exactly first picked.

Hussey - See Dussey

Ponting - These conference/tactical discussions every 2 balls are a joke. You'd think the guy was Kapil Dev the way he seems to know what the bowler should bowl instead of showing some faith. Its obvious that he's insecure about his Captaincy skill because he trying to Micro-manage all day long and no-one's buying it.

Hughes should come in for Marsh, has had some very good domestic 1 day & T20 matches this season and IMO could be a calming factor for Warner at the top of the order too - both contrasting styles and Hughes has shown that he can be very aggressive, when needed, in an orthodox and 'less risky' fashion. His T20 final last week was very good, played some great strokes without chancing his arm.

I would like to see Katich come in for a straight swap for Ponting so the batting order isn't messed around too much. Kat Man has shown some very good aggression and is a completely different player compared to his last stint in the 1 day team.

Dropping M.Hussey, surely you people are on drugs.

I think changes need to be made but I am not sure changing 4/5/6 players in one game is a good idea. I think it needs to be done over a couple of games.

Firstly: Replacements for Marsh and Ponting = Hughes and Katich
Secondly: Replacement for Warner and Dussey = ??? and Symonds
Thirdly: A bowler = Hilfy

Your comments on Bracken are the stupidest i've heard on these boards.

I'm not sure what else to say other than "are you serious". Yeh...drop Bracken, the best one-day bowler in the world. Yeh, we've overrated his variety...that's why he continually goes for under 30 runs in his 10 overs and usually picks up 1 or 2 top order wickets.

Don't post your idiocy.

I'm assuming Ponting will play Friday and stay in Sydney after Sunday's game. For the same reason I'm expecting Mike Hussey to spend this weekend at home and rejoin the team in Adelaide. And Tait's workload management probably has him missing the Sydney and Brisbane games, playing Melbourne, Adelaide and the T20.

So Marsh and Mussey out for Friday, Hughes and Hilfenhaus in. Krejza in the squad and playing Sunday (for Tait). Carseldine 13th man replacing White who can play Wednesday and Saturday for the Bushrangers.

If you think Bracken is the best ODI bowler in the world then you shouldn't say anything else.

ATM he looks good compared to the rest but if Lee, Tait, Hilf, Siddle, and Clark were fit/firing and Bracken picked up an injury... he'd struggle to get back in the team.

There's a good reason why he is nowhere near test consideration...

I'd like to see a side of

Hughes
Warner
Klinger
Clarke
M Hussey
Quiney
Haddin
Hopes
Hilfenhaus
Geeves
Bracken

but realistically Ponting will probably play and hussey will retain his spot and tait will play ahead of geeves.

i hate tait, just seems like he doesnt care.
hes not fit enough to bowl out ten overs.
get him out to do some fitness, he doesnt even trouble batsmen apart from his first 2 overs

I think Bracken is number 1 in the ratings of ODI bowlers. His nowhere near Test consideration has stuff all to do with ODI cricket. It's 2 different forms of cricket.A lot of players can be good Test players and useless ODI players. The same goes the other way [i.e Symonds....well not right now ;)]

How embarrassing.

If Ponting is out, I'd like to see:

Marsh
Haddin
Katich
Clarke
Symonds
D. Hussey
M. Hussey
Hopes
Bracken
Hilfenhaus
Tait

Probably harsh to drop Johnson because he bowled pretty well yesterday, but I don't think he offers the team enough given his lack of ability as far as death bowling is concerned. Hilfenhaus, Tait and Bracken are all capable of bowling the last 5-10 overs, and if one of them was to get on a roll early, Ponting would be able to bowl them out and use the other two at the end. I think this provides the team with more flexibility than having Johnson in the team does.

Dave Hussey is the man to go when Ponting comes back, Katich is simply a better batsman than him and while in this case he is replacing Ponting, I think he should replace Hussey.

Symonds should be back, he's a confidence-driven player, one big innings and he'll be back to his best, just needs the selectors to show a bit of faith in him.

Also, Mike Hussey is more valuable down the order, can sum up a situation in the later overs well and either smash the ball over the boundary or halt a collapse. Promoting him up to 4 didn't seem to work too well.

Marsh in doubt with a hamstring too isn't he? If he and Ponting don't play i'd go for this line up

S.Katich
D.Warner
M.Klinger
M.Clarke
D.Hussey
M.Hussey
B.Haddin
J.Hopes
M.Johnson
N.Bracken
B.Hilfenhaus

Katich and Klinger both give the batting order a bit more stability. Both players that the innings can be built around.
