Changes for Geelong

As someone who lives in Sleepy Hollow, and most of his mates are cats members, the word around town is that Pods was dropped because they needed a crunbing forward in Stokes and Hawkins

I kinda find that hard to believe. Podsi_ardly put a foot wrong last game:D

* Davis out for Medhurst - Davis has been terrible for the last 3 games, and not only is his disposal efficiency been bad, but also his decision making to try and kick snapshot goals from the boundary lines 40 metres out, instead of trying to kick to a team mates advantage, and total lack of generally doing the team thing has been deplorable.
He sure didn't do that last night. Don't you remember Davis had the ball on an angle and instead of a set shot he passed it off to Ball? Ball then missed the goal so maybe Leon should've had a shot but at least he wasn't being selfish.

Leon was great last week and he was ok last night so he doesn't deserve to be dropped.

I would not be surprised if we brought in brown (leeroy) for his physical presence as we got thrown around by Geelong last year.

Please No!!!! Brown should never ever play AFL football again unless we have horrible injuries to a big men, which we don't.

Don't think Anthony should be dropped, I thought the three talls didn't work to bad and would probably need more than 1 game together to get it right. Plus if Anthony plays Scarlett usually goes to him which protects Cloke and Dawes.
Presti in for Brown - do similar things and Presti is better, this will mean that Maxxy will probably need to take on of there KPFs.
Think Wellers and Medders could be included, though I'm not sure who for considering I want Jack in the team and both O'bree and the caff have been good. Maybe O'bree and Davis out though I'm not to sure to be honest, maybe both don't return.

IMO Hawkins is the most over rated KPF in the AFL.
Doubt it, I don't think I've ever seen him rated. In fact I believe his nickname on BF for a while was the Tomahack. And commentators don't talk up his performances they usually say he needs to lift or talk of his possible potential - which considering he would have gone top 5 if he wasn't F/S is fair enough.

INS: Wellingham, Medhurst, Presti.

OUT: Macaffer, JA, Brown.

Would also consider bringing in Josh, but it will be interesting to see how Wood goes against a quality team.

People mentioning Harry's newfound complacence are spot on. He isn't paying his opponents enough respect, is trying to play on way, way too much and has developed an annoying trait of holding the ball above his head each time he gathers it (I know it's so he can dish off handballs when trying to break a tackle).

Less of Harry's world, more watching the game tape.

why would people consider fraser over wood , wood has so much more presence as a ruck and to top it off hes probably better around the ground than fraser anyway. I dont care what fraser of yesteryear was like , wood of now against fraser of now is a no brainer for who should be back up to jolly.

Who were the forwards when we played them last year in the finals? I know that the mid field was the issue but it would be intersting to compare.

Chapman kicked 5, Ablett, Byrney, Hawkins and Varcoe kicked 2 each, Johnson, Mooney and Ottens 1 a piece.

No Ottens this time around, which helps both in the ruck and with our defense.

Probably have to add Podsiadly now though, although he is so over rated it's not funny, kicked all his goals on that little dung heap in Geelong.

Out: Shane O'Bree Brent Macaffer Cameron Wood Ben Reid

Why: O'Bree before this season I penciled in to play all 22 games again this season until Wellingham developed unexpectedly along with the next generation crop who are growing nicely. Macaffer has had a few solid weeks at AFL level but I would like to see Barham replace him for a few weeks based on his consistently outstanding form. The question of which of Fraser or Wood should be in the side is really a toss of the coin call, as Mick described it, and he is right. Personally I'm in favour of playing just Jolly with Cloke/ Dawes playing the minor backup minutes when necessary. The Brown/ Reid battle is an interesting one. Personally I'm in favour against Geelong to play Brown because the Geelong forwards will have a distinct size advantage over Reid which they simply won't get against Brown due to his bigger body and ability to stand up in contests. I see Reid probably playing the more of the 2 this season atleast early on, but for matchup purposes Brown is a much better fit against the big Geelong forwards simply because he can take and stand up stronger in contests, just see Reid losing too much one on one. Essentially this is the team I think would matchup best against Geelong as it addresses all the concerns in terms of winning the ball inside, having the speed to match Geelong and also the size down back to contain the bigger more experienced forwards. Leaving out a "backup ruckman" would be a judgement call, but in my view neither ruckman should be included and instead this 22 which I believe to be our best 22 should instead take field.

In: Jaxson Barham Sharrod Wellingham Simon Prestigiacomo Paul Medhurst

Why: Jaxson Barham is well and truly ready to become part of the "rotation of 30". Has been amongst the best every week in the VFL and once again this week dominated. Against Geelong his tackling pressure and energy he can bring into the game will be huge for the side and could really lift the side, against Geelong the pressure on the ball carrier will be critical and Barham is the ideal inclusion. Wellingham should be ready to go and has done well previously against Geelong particularly in the 2007 thrashing. Josh Fraser now ready to go will be a nice addition to the senior side, while on form it is pretty much a toss of the coin as Mick described it I believe Josh still to be the preferred no.2 option. Prestigiacomo should be ready to come back into the side and is the ideal matchup for Podsiadly.

If they set up like last night then we risk going in too tall, Hawkins as relief ruck workede very well for them, and allowed them to play a genuine tall utility in Lonegan instead of a second ruck.

They had two genuine targets in Mooney and Hakins, 2 genuine stoppers in Scarlett and Taylor, one genuine ruck in Blake and a guy who can play forward or back in Lonegran.

Thats six talls, and a slightly more mobile group than if it had two genuine (slow) rucks.

For mine that means we can either try to force Lonegran to defence by sticking with our current 3 talls, thus sticking with our current 2 tall defenders, but I think that my leave us with one ruckman too many, I thought Wood was OK as a backup, and it was great to see him back a couple of goals, but we will lose one rotation compared to them in terms of around the ground stuff and against a midfield as strong as Geelongs, that hurts.

We do have a tall releif ruckman who can play as a posession accumulating linkman and pick up 20 possesions, Josh Fraser, I reckon if he dos'nt come in for Wood, then Wood will be dropped anyway and Dawes will be asked to ruck agaisnt his old buddy Tomahawk.

Thats assuming no changes from the Cats on last night.

they will probably play podsiadly though

Fraser fit over Wood is a no brainer for me. Fraser has the capability of getting the link ball when the defense is under pressure, Wood or Jolly don't position themselves for it the way Fraser can. Fraser also moves the ball on quicker too. I think as he gets the games under his belt with Jolly he'll start finding the ball again but he needs to be played.
I don't mind the rotation though, at some point Jolly will also need to be rested.

who do our backs match up on this week?

Presti - JPod *Most dangerous forward, meet our best defencive back*
Harry O - Steve J *Has worked very well in the past and Harry O has done an excellent job at getting under his skin. Last few occasions we have had Goldsack play Steve J without much success, but Harry O is by far the best matchup*
Toovey/ Shaw - Stokes
Shaw/ Toovey - Byrnes
Maxwell/ N.Brown - Mooney *Would like to see Maxwell given the job on Mooney. Both tough cookies. Otherwise is N.Brown gets selected he could take Mooney when Hawkins moves into the ruck*
N.Brown - Hawkins *Better matchup than Reid based on the fact that in terms of size he can match him better*
Johnson/ Shaw - Chapman
Johnson/ Shaw - Duncan

I thought Brown was GREAT on probably one of the top 3 AFL players the moment, Pavlich. So he stays in for me.

Presti is a must IN against Geelong...for Reid imo. Harry O'Bama not playing well last couple weeks, but deserves another chance.

Weillingham also a must IN...not sure who for though.

I would hate to be a team selector right now.
