Don't rest anybody. They have a 2 week break straight after. We need to win desperately and are not a good enough side to rest good players.

Being at the game I thought Dea did very well. Sometimes you can get a different and arguably more accurate idea when watching on TV but I thought he was very solid overhead and played his role.

Out: Riewoldt
In: King

Houli on very thing ice. I don't rate Bachelor at the moment but doesn't look like anyone else agrees there.

In : white for Conca
King for A.maric
There is one non negotiable and that is when it's your turn you go , if you don't you get dropped .
Graham for Jack if needed .

Nahas Griffith I.Maric
Edwards Vickery ( permanent) king
Grigg Cotchin Jackson
Houli Batchellor Dea
Morris Rance Newman

Graham , Dustin , tuck

Int : white, Ellis , lids
sub : O'hanlon

i have huge concerns about him and it is in areas ofmhis game that cannot be improved or coached. He is timid and shies away from a contest.
I don't think my criticsim is unwarranted. Others might, but I have seen enough to know what i know.
I certainly don't think Vickery is timid at all, last year he certainly wasn't. I do agree that he doesn't attack ruck contests as hard as he should, but I believe that is a lack of confidence in clashing bodies with an opponent 20kg heavier than him. This year he isn't crashing into packs to take marks, but that could also be a lack of confidence in his body after shoulder surgery in the off season. He certainly could take a good contested mark last year so the ability is there.

As I said, he's a baby in ruck terms, we shouldn't expect to see the best of him for another 3-4 seasons at least. Just look at the step up that Ivan Maric has made at the age of 26, Mark Jamar was pretty similar. Expectations were high that Vickery would improve again on last year, but he hasn't so the knives are out for him. Sometimes development and improvement is not linear, there are so many factors that can affect how quickly a player comes on and just like all young players, they can sometimes take a step backwards before taking the next two steps forward.

Dusty hasn't improved on his season last year, Jack has been up and down since his Coleman year, Deledio is probably our most consistent but still can get tagged out of a game. That is just from our club too, we get such a skewed perception of our kids because we play them so early. Most clubs with a senior core can develop them longer at a lower level to iron out the kinks and prepare them as best as possible for AFL level. We are starting to get to the point where we can do that now, but there are still a massive amount of kids in our side who are still yet to hit their prime so we just need to be patient and let them develop.

IIRC Vickery's form improved significantly last year after the little scrap over the boundary line , game or opponent escapes me . FWIW I think he has played his best footy when he has copped a clip and got a little agro, wasn't uncommon in the past for teammates to slip one into teammates , within a pack , who needed a little encouragement to get their mind on the game .

Injuries permitting.

B/ morris - rance - newman
hb/ dea - griffiths - batchelor
c/ grigg - tuck - deledio
hf ohanlon - post - edwards
f/ i maric - riewoldt - king.
r/ graham - cotchin - foley.
int/ martin - ellis - a maric - conca.

ins/post, king, graham.
out/ vickery, nahas, houli.

bring in graham from what i can gather hes earnt a game. plonk big ivan in a pocket for most of the game, give him a rest that way.drop the badly out of form vickery. who gives us nothing forward or in the ruck. big ivan spent significant time forward when at adelaide.

drop nahas, keep o'hanlon. small insipid skilless forward for a promising medium. will be dirty if o'hanlon is dropped.bring in post so we change it up a small for a needed marking player forward.

drop houli he was terrible and keep a maric. surely we can give him a decent block of games. give him a chance to fit in and not feel as if the next mistake is his last.ffs we could give vickery 9 games of nothing why not give maric 4. bring in king at least he will apply decent defensive pressure unlike houli.

if we had a agile tall defender who could come in id play him and look at dropping one of newman yes the skipper hes struggling or conca or batchelor..

hey sant where you been? argueing with the boys at oer???

just 1 thing imo you refer to nahas then want maric to stay in. i reckon you have described maric to a tee. at least nahas wants to tackle. maric must do this better.

Witey should come in for jacko, has much more to offer....one thing the young gws side has is pace...

we need to cover the loss of foley not create another loss of a hardened yet limited afl player v a team full of 18yo's. so while yes we want jacko out in the future right now we need him to do a job. we want the 4 points and we need to pick our best side or we could drop this game and affectively give the comp a 4 point head start like we did last year. bring white in(probably should have done this last week and left out o hanlon which has plenty of time) and play him in the guts. a maric should only be played as a sub and is not an answer.

I have to agree with some posters here, give Adam Maric a chance. He has been dominant at VFL level. Maric is not just a small forward either like J. King he can also play off the wing. Needs time to develop a bit more.

Also agree with Vickery. He is going to go through the whole season being gifted games.

If Jack's injured, I'd like to see Elton get a taste. He will be a part of the future best 22, Miller will not be, no point bringing him in.

Miller's bigger body and experience will pose problems for the inexperienced and smaller GWS bodies. Bringing Elton in will be just a kid on another kid.

I'm with richcogs ... Vickery has been gifted games all year and has no hunger for the contest. Time to give him a wake-up call and send him to the 2s. I thought were were meant to be playing guys on form this year .. we can't have that many players out of form at Coburg!

wtf has vickery done to be kept in? miller is an upgrade. for some reason vickery is shot from last year. needs to find it again. I would even have post and elton before him....

king must come in.

arnoot for foley but isnt foley injured as well.
Buscuit didn't play yesterday due to injury . Can't see him coming in for his debut straight after having 3 weeks without a game .

Don't see the point in playing Miller if we're just gonna drop him once Jack comes back. Seems rather short sighted.

Not if Vickery keeps going the way he has been!
Miller ruined the forward line for Jack. I'm not saying they wouldn't need to drop Vickery, just that if you do then you still need a forward/ruck option to replace him, Miller isn't that. Better off investing in a younger player for that, hence why I said short sighted.

Exactly, the forward line has functioned much better since Miller went out of the side. Jack got back into form. Even the coach said that Vickery is doing all the right things and just by leading to the right places its opening up the forward line for Jack to play well.

If Miller is the best option to win the game - play Miller. We still want to win games first and foremost. Finals, remember?

Most of the young kids played poorly on the weekend. Griffiths, Batchelor, Conca, - Morris was the only shining light (and he's 23). It was a day for big, tough, SMART bodies.

Batchelor is the worry for me - his last 2 weeks have been poor (and Freo was a disaster). I was almost going to start a thread in the last few weeks 'Would you swap him for Heppell - No!'. Then he plays his last 2 games, and Heppell plays well. You'd think they had both only just come into the game or something. Inconsistent buggers.....................................

have to agree, against hawthorn he was intercepting marks at will and with courage. However against Fremantle, particularly Pavs first mark he should have cut off, he got worried out of it by Pav coming the other way (can't say i blame him) but if your playing that loose role you gotta be ready to accept contact from behind.

Only reason that Griffiths was subbed off was because Sandilands went down so they had one too many talls and it was creating a problem with matchups. Hardwick said as much in the press conference.

Finals are a product of playing well and consistent, if Miller was doing so he'd be in the team the last few weeks.

So who didnt go Roar? The ex melbourne squib or Conca?

I reckon conca has been taking the undiscipline pills that jacko has been dishing out, he has been giving away needless free kicks.

Maric the smaller is a waste of space all he sees is the glory....hungry footballer not very team oriented but thats only an opinion.
