Changes for GWS

We're going to need all the mature bodies we can muster for the finals.

Pederson has more flexibility and will have just as much, or more impact than Harps.

Then the coach was waffling on about the players not winning the contested ball v Freo, well...........play *****ing Levi.
we are the fastest team in the afl. if we change our style 1 week before the finals we are in deep sh**. the insiders we have can do the job, they just didnt on the day. we cant go bringing in levi, although i like him and we all love his aggression, we cant bring him as he has the worst kick in the squad by a length. we play high possesion for high reward, if we f*** it up on the outside, we are in for a pummeling. keep the side as is with limited changes, give harps an opportunity week one of the finals to step up

What the **** does slower matter when the opposition can shut down the game?

Are Sydney quick?
we play our game plan, clearly it works. we work at a frenetic pace because we are fit and we have 3 in form talls. freo were well coached on the day, but it helped that we werent at all clean with the ball. dont go fixing something that isnt broken

Campbell's speed is important late in games. Levi would not have made any difference on Sunday given the comparative workrate of the rest of the team. We have won 9 of the last 11 and finals are about to start. Pedo is injured and Levi has had an avearge year. It is not the time for panic, we should back in the group that turned us around.

I'll let the Pederson for Harps stuff slide but this part is pure bollocks. Levi wouldn't have made a lick of difference in the contested ball on the weekend. We got smashed because Goldy was sick and comprehensively beaten by Sandilands. Swallow, Ziebell, Cunners, Cruise are a capable inside team. Levi is simply not best 22 ATM, mainly because (as others have pointed out) his kicking is not good enough to work its our current game plan

Didn't Ziebell have a quiet week or 2 after his superb return against Geelong earlier in the season?

And on a slightly related note, will we have GWS as a prequel to a massive Geelong game twice in the one season? Hopefully history repeats itself.

One change I do want to see is Ziebell actually using the ball well instead of just throwing it on the boot when in a contested situation. He has a way to go in that facet of the game.

GWS will want to finish the season strong and give their fans something to look forward to next year. They rested players last week and will bring them in this week.

However, North Melbourne will name an unchanged side and bounce back from last week's performance to win by 100+.

Spot on BTron - is frustrating at times.

My other preferred change is Bastinac to put his head over the ball, and be prepared to absorb contact rather than give the ball up. Sure he is young and slight framed, but so many people were ripping shreds off LA on this board for doing exactly the same thing early this year.....

I'd like to see Mullett get a run this week, and either Harper or Macmillan get a (well deserved and overdue) rest.

I agree re Basti. He is developing a habit of shirking contests.

As i have stated, his decision making and kicking has been shit since he came back.
Not only since he came back. Jack ain't the cleanest player inside.

Give him space and no problem generally, but inside a pack he treats it like high school footy. Chuck it on the boot.

For sure, needs to spend a bit of time at half back/half forward so that he can learn to set up play a bit better. That was he can use his kicking to help us rather than put us on the back foot, like he does when he is playing his inside role.

Greenwood style.

Which generally hurts as it usually goes to an army of opposition players waiting for that exact kick (knowing we are likely to win the clearance).

He would be better served developing an ability to ride the tackle and get hands free to dish off to a team mate on the outside. Watching Sydney you can see how many of their players have perfected this.

100% agree. Hayes and Pendlebury are guns at doing this, and most of the top mids (which Syd have) do - rarely just scramble it with a kick and cross fingers, especially in the back half.

I really hope Wells plays this week. Even if it's up forward or reduced game time. Only change for mine would be:
In: Wells
Out: Campbell
Harper is interesting. His pressure acts and inside 50 tackles are excellent which suggests he's playing his role ... I'd just like to see him get more of the frigging ball! I would have dropped him 2-3 weeks ago to find some touch in the VFL but it's too late now.
Mullet and Kennedy are the 2 who could potentially come in if anyone's a bit sore.

We need to get him behind and in front of the ball more often.

He was never a 100% clearance player as a kid and he will never be a 100% clearance player in the AFL.

I expect him to take on a utility role once the midfield gets settled.

He has a beautiful kick when he has time, lethal.

Absolutely potent.

His clearance work will improve as he gains strength, but he still can't run through the blokes that are a few years older.

He would be a match winner in a side with an existing developed midfield. You could plonk him on a wing and instruct him to sit behind or forward of the centre as the tempo of the game dictates.

I think he has weak technique in the clearances, rather than a strength issue, which makes me shudder to think what he is going to do to blokes in 4 years time. ****ing hell. But yeah, clean up his inside work by hand and he could be a truly dominant inside mid as he has no trouble getting hands on the ball in there.

The next few years will be good to watch with him, Cunners, Swallow and eventually Atley being our four contested ball players in there. Whoever sits outside the rotation will get some freedom and do some damage.
