Imo the issue with the pacers in India isn't the effectiveness on the pitches but the workload because those conditions are very demanding. Green is a luxury to have in the side in these conditions. I would play him if fit, even without match practice.

Both sides have question marks over their line ups which will mean a media frenzy in the lead up. For context, Indian media is already getting frenzied by the selection of their ODI team with Ishan Kishan missing after he scored a double hundred in the previous ODI. I hope the contest between Aus & Ind lives up to the hype. It could rival 2001 series, 2005 ashes etc.

Carey will be crucial for Aus with his sweeping and general spin play & keeping on Indian pitches.

The Pakistan series will be helpful for our pacers. Pitches aren't the same but the length and line required is similar.

It's more our batters v their spinners and their batters v our spinners that are a concern IMO.

TBH i'm pretty bullish on Aus batters more than India's batters, especially if Jadeja and Bumrah aren't playing. Australian middle order is pretty formidable.

Head was terrible in SL and Pakistan and even Lab wasn’t great. Smith aside and Green isn’t fit yet…not so confident

Jadeja and Bumrah have still not returned from their injuries, so both are massively underdone if they do play the first test. I wouldn't risk either of them without proper match practice. Axar is probably the ideal replacement for Jadeja and Umesh Yadav for Bumrah.
Ashwin has suggested that Jadeja will be fit in time for the Australia series.

clear difference of approach for modern teams - prepare remotely, fly in, full focus on the test, fly out

no more waiting around and time between warm-up games, matches, etc.
perhaps you can make the argument that it's never been harder to win a Test series away from home though?

I don't know how anyone could think Agar should be anywhere near this squad.
He's barely WA team worthy.
Conversely I don't understand how people think he won't be. He's seen as the #2, period.

Which is insane.
Not really. He had a bad test, yes. The other spin options aren't great, leggies generally aren't great in India (except your Kumble types) so I think he'll play the first couple and do okay.

It'll be a 16 or 17 player squad minimum. Probably 18.

Bats: Warner, Khawaja, Renshaw, Labuschagne, Smith, Head, Green, 2x Handscomb/Harris/Hardie
Keepers: Carey, Inglis
Bowlers: Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Boland, Agar, Lyon, Swepson

Khawaja
Renshaw
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Agar
Cummins
Lyon
Hazlewood
I'll swap Murphy for Agar. He looks like he is a bit better than the other spinners, bar Lyon, by a margin, even after just 7 FC games averaging 25. He looks classy. Hard work bowling off spin in Australia so that's good going. Don't care is he turns it the same way as Lyon, just pick the best. Rest will be cannon fodder for India.

I’d rather Kuhermann he’s a better spinner than Agar

Agree on the batting, but given how weak the spin options are there is a very real possibility that a full quota of quicks and one spinner will bowl India out more cheaply than two spinners, two quicks and Green.
This is where Agar could get a look in, he could play in Green's place - three quicks and a backup quick seems unlikely - or come into the middle order if one of those players proves significantly weaker than the others. Head in India is almost a big a worry as Warner in India.
They remotely sniff us picking 3 pacemen and a spinner those wickets will then just be so doctored. Murphy looks very good.

They'll be doctored alot anyway.

He does but do we need Lyon, Head (who will bowl heaps) and Murphy. Three spinners that are the same. I’d go a SLA or a leggie and not sure we have a leg spinner worth it. Best two SLA are Agar/Kuhermann

If Murphy goes it's more likely to be instead of Swepson. I also think it's better for him to play the last 4 shield games for Victoria

not really provides just the same as agar

Plus agar better bat and field

I think the criticism is a bit over the top...you have to support the players to a degree you cant just play them one off test and then F**k them off....it will be a never ending merry go round

SLO go well in India....give agar a test and if he F**ks up yeah I agree then F88k him off

our premier offie only took 2 poles in 55 overs ...yeah agar looked average this test you need to show some support

IMO agar should never of played this test and swepo who I believe was harshly treated by the selectors and played on the roads of pakistan should of been given a go in aussie conditions

Can’t just play 1 test and **** them
Off, but propose to do that with 1 test in India anyway

Agar is clearly going and likely playing, but just don’t think that’s helpful. There’s got to be better additions to the side than just naming someone who has the same technique as better cricketers who have done well in these conditions. Conversely, it doesn’t stop them naming guys who don’t have the technique (or haven’t shown it) to succeed in India - I.e. Warner and Head.

So we pick Agar because he suits the conditions, and pick 2 batsman for their form even though they don’t suit the conditions.

Right.
