LFC,
Surprised that this hasnt been started up already! Here it goes:

Sellar confirmed out for 3 weeks :( so he comes out, i doubt griff will come straight back in really... Maybe SMACK? Maybe well play Maric and pinch hit?
Goody in doubt.. which is concerning although his form hasn't been great he is obviously one of our most valuable players. Knights has to come in- does he have the fitness base to come in as a midfielder? We seem to have a near full strength Forward line now and we cant drop Douglas (although id like to) as we dont really have enough depth available!!

Hows VB tracking??

For me its:
Out- Sellar, Young, Hentschel/Goody
In- Stevens, VB??, Knights

If VB isnt fit then, will only be the two changes.

By what I heard on 5AA, it'll be:
Sellar out for either Griffin or Smack
Young out for Knights (not a like for like swap, but Knights has to come in at the expense of someone)
And I'd take out Cook for VB if fit, which by the sounds of it, he will be.
So starting to get close to our full side, although still well underdone.

Given that the Dees have been playing with 1 x recognised ruckman only with Newton supporting I would be tempted to go with Maric only and Steven's opposed to Newton

My changes

IN - Steven's, VB (if fit), Knights

Out - Young, Sellar and Douglas

reason for Douglas omission is team balance, Knights, Porplyzia and Birdman are all back and Petrenko can play the small forward role

if the club choses to play 2 ruckman than Cook or Radar seems the next most likely to go

Shit forgot about Stevens.:o And Craigy won't be dropping Radar after praising his hardness at the ball on the weekend. Also I'd say Dougie's form warrants a spot in the side over Cook. Cook just look like it atm, while Douglas hasn't been playing badly, not dominating but still solid.

We have to bring in a ruckman for Jimmy who is super unlucky to cop an injury after he was flying the the first half.

I have given up on Griffin for good because he just doesn't get it so by default, McKernan to come in for Jimmy.

The rest will sort itself out. Stevens, VB and Knight will all come back into the side if they are fit.

C'mon, Jaensch ...

Ins:
Griffin - A definite for mine, Jamar's in top form, but I'd really like to see us stretch him by going with the Maric/Griffin combo. This also gives Griffin a small reprieve to see whether he really wants it.
Knights - As much as its hurting us, I think we've got to bring these guys up to match fitness asap and the best way to do that is get them in the side. We could also do with some added firepower up forward.
Stevens - No brainer really at this stage, has had a great preseason and we could really use his versatility

Outs:
Sellar - Hamstring. Shame, was really starting to look good there in that first quarter, showed some great closing speed and did some good work round the ground.
Young - Last in, first out. Also doesn't quite look ready, ideally you'd give him another game, but with Knights and Stevo to come back in, he misses out. Will be better for the run though.
Petrenko - Bit rough on the young fella, but we're slowly starting to regain our A-side, so unfortunately he misses out due to the like for like principle(ie Knights for Petrenko). The other option would be Cook and quite frankly, I don't want either to go, but its of these two. He gets a reprieve if Goody* doesn't pull up in time.

This would have us lining up like:

B: Stevens - Rutten - Doughty
HB: Goodwin* - Bock - Reilly
C: Mackay - Dangerfield - Douglas
HF: Knights - Walker - McLeod
F: Porplyzia - Tippett - Edwards
1R: Maric - Thompson - Vince
I: Griffin, Burton, Hentschel, Cook
E: Petrenko*, Young, van Berlo

For mine we give van Berlo another week's rest (perhaps as a travelling emergency, ie Maric against Freo) he's the ultimate professional and fit as a fiddle, so I'm not too worried about him missing match practice, I'd just really like to see him get his body right. I also don't think another 4 changes would do us any good and I think that the 3 I've mentioned are definites(as much as I hate to see it regarding Griff and his performance against Freo).

I'd love to see us do it as he's far more versatile and gives us a far better contest around the ground, not getting my hopes up though.

C'mon, Jaensch ...

I don't reckon it'll be far off the way he's playing at the moment, Rucci mentioned Schmidt, but I'd go Jaensch as his skills are just that level above and that's something we're sorely missing at the moment. Schmidts just too vanilla for mine, I don't reckon Hendo's far off either.

Griffin for Sellar is probably a given. I doubt that McKernan has earned a spot at AFL level yet.

Stevens for Young is a certainty.

Knights for Goodwin if his corked knee doesn't come up. Knights for Petrenko is probably the go if Goody recovers in time, although Pup would be very very stiff.

22 genuinely 100% committed desperate players would be a pleasant change too.

Petrenko must play 22 this year, his hardness and spirit he brings is invaluable. I would rather him play than most of the others in the 22 at the moment. He was the only one trying to lift the team after getting knocked out.

Then Griffin should not be anywhere near the side. The fire doesn't burn in his gut and it never will, he is a liability and this is not going to change. McKernan should not be overlooked just because his SANFL form isn't absolutely top notch. He brings genuine talent and is an aggressive, competitive footballer. If we're serious about moving this list forward we need to be ruthless in our treatment of those who don't want it enough. Select the players who will give us a return on investment down the track.

Petrenko needs to be kept in the side as well. Competitive, talented, a hard nut, the polar opposite of a downhill skier. Gets his hands dirty when the going is tough. It's guys like him who will see us improve. I'm not at all comfortable seeing him omitted when there are middle of the road footballers getting games week in, week out because they're experienced "enough", solid "enough". The time to make tough choices is now, or we're going to waste the opportunity our current list presents.

Then Petrenko should stay in. He can play forward or back and honestly, I reckon he's given us something, even if it's only simply sheer desperation. To be honest, I'd be dropping Burton and asking him to find some form in the SANFL and putting Knights in his spot. I know it would make the club look foolish considering they opted not to put him back in the SANFL initially, but to me it seems a no-brainer.

Yeah I dont want Petrenko dropped. Too many players showed nothing last week, and I thought Petrenko at least showed something. Burton, Hentchell both didnt do enough to keep a spot. Burton dropped about 5 marks which is one of his strengths. If hes that underdone, let him work back through the SANFL.

For me its

Sellar out - Smack in
Goodwin out - VB in
Hentchel out - Stevens in
Burton out - Knights in

B: Young - Rutten - Doughty
HB: VB - Bock - McLeod
C: Mackay - Dangerfield - Reilly
HF: Knights - Walker - Edwards

1R: Maric - Thompson - Vince
I: Smack, Petrenko, Cook, Douglas
E: Armstrong, Hentchell, Burton, Griffin

Young wasnt very good last week, but would have been nervous as hell. Give him another chance. Wouldnt mind Armstrong in there too. I just dont see the point in playing semi-fit Burtons, Hentchels and other senior players when it seems we need desperate enthusiastic youth. 100% fit Armstrongs / Youngs / Petrenkos getting AFL experience is surely more valuable than playing seniors who are underdone, still behind the pace due to injury, and are getting games on name only.

Changes

Definite Outs
:

- Sellar
(inj)

- Young (omit)

Maybe Outs:

- Goodwin
(if Injured)

- Hentschel
(looks slow, unsure and past it)

- Cook (omit)

Definite Ins
:

- Griffin
:( (I'd much rather see the club strap a whole heap of on-ballers on to each others shoulders as they would do a better job in the ruck)

- Stevens

- Knights (someone needs to drop out for him but definetly not Burton, Petrenko or Douglas)

Maybe Ins:

- van Berlo
(if he is definetly fit and not a risk he could come in)

c'mon, jaensch ...
i have this funny feeling that one of jaensch or henderson will be promoted. If it were me id promote both. Put henderson on the half back line to give us a fleet footed running defender and jaensch in the forward line to give us a crumbing forward in the mould of peter vardy , someone who is quick and a beautiful long kick.

Not too sure that I agree with everyone's push to bring in / keep Henderson, Jaensch, Smack, Young, etc....

I think for us to start hitting our form we need our best side on the park not untried players who aren't fully comfortable with the system and rigors of AFL footy...

For me the Ins and Outs are as below:

Out:
Sellar (inj)
Young (Omitted)
Cook (Omitted)

Ins:

Van Berlo
Knights
Stevens

Goodwin will get up for this week.

Think this will be a very balanced team. Burton, Porps and Maric will all be much better for the run last week. Knights will bring a spark and Van Berlo will slot right in…. This will be the week we turn it around… Think we have too much class to drop 3 in a row.

Outs:- Sellar (inj.)
Hentschel (omit)
Goodwin (inj.)
Young (omit - I'd give him another chance but I think he'll go)

Ins:- Griffin (I'd prefer McKernan but I think Griff will get the nod)
Stevens
Knights
Armstrong (to play on the wing Jetta style)

B:- Stevens Rutten Douglas
HB:- Doughty Bock McLeod
C:- Cook Reilly Mackay
HF:- Knights Walker Vince
F:- Patrenko Tippett Porpylizia
R:-Maric Dangerfield Thompson
Int:- Griffin Armstrong Edwards Burton

There will be only be changes due to a return from injury of players.

However I would like to see some changes in structure this week.

I would like to see Petrenko move back to defence. We badly need some speed back there to run the ball out of defence.

Vince must play in the midfield and rest forward.

Lets put Knights on the HFF to get some run there.

Stevo needs to play at CHF atm until Davis, Smack selected these positions.

VB to play on a HBF to give us run off this line.

My side:

Young, Rutten, Petrenko

Van Berlo Bock Douglas

Mackay Vince Reilly

Knights Stevens Dangerfield

Porplycia Tippet Walker

Maric Thompson McLeod

Burton, Griffin, Cook, Edwards

Ins: Knights, Griffin, Stevens, Van Berlo

Outs: Hentschell, Sellar, Doughty, Goodwin (inj)

Sadly I think Trent is simply too slow for AFL atm aND MAYBE FOREVER.

I am really worried about Doughty too - and I have been a fan. he appears ot have slowed up this year so far.

Too many of our players are going to ground because of a lack of pace - Doughty is one, the truck is another.

Walker may also miss out. He needs to work much harder in contested situations.

I'm going to the game, so I'll be watching the whole zone thing with great interest.
In terms of changes, I can see Sellar and Goodwin going out due to injuries and Stevens and Knights in. VB will be given another week (no plane travel) and then play at home.

It is possible that Young or Cook may go, but I think they would want fewer changes rather than more.
