Another thought: Ask yourself this -

If you had the pick of Bartel, Bentick, Ling or Joel Corey to play in our midfield next week who would be omitted?

That's stupid. That's just like saying

If you had to pick between Judd, Stevens, Kelly and Murphy.

Murphy, Stevens and Judd are ahead, but it doesn't mean Kelly isn't a great player for the cats!

btw, im not comparing Bentick to Kelly here, but the scenario you've used.

Bentick is not the reason we lose each week. It's those who don't contribute or do enough that are hurting us. I won't bother to name them, as i don't want this to turn into another 'this player is good/not good thread'. Bentick does his job and has been brilliant for us. It just seems a common misconception that because he spent time in the 2's last year and this year that he's no longer good enough. Open your eyes people and look at how well he is playing!

this post is my signal to hit the hay...

stupid hypothetical question...

he wasnt in the state side? :p;)
Please explain? :D

On second thoughts and just for the hell of it (or because I don't give a frack anymore :p)

In: Pfeiffer Anderson Waite Edwards Austin - good enough for the Dees to promote Warnock and Garland
Out: Russell Bower :( Scotland Wiggins Kreuzer

out: weakness, doubt
in: courage, belief

Concur but think that the belief will be a long process. Perhaps they should start by concentrating on the process rather than fearing the result. I feel too many of our players are restricted more in the mind than the body. Guys like Eddie, Judd, Cloke and Armfield last night being examples of a few who don't seem to play with much fear.

Banno should be in to tag Cornes.

In: Banno, Waite, Pfieffer and maybe Edwards
Out: Bower, Russel (don't want to but might have too), Wiggins and maybe one of Kreuze or Hampson.

BTW Armfield was great last night could be a gem.

i can't help but to feel nervous when O'hAilpin has the ball, is this experiment working?

YES YES YES, well no it isnt working but agree with you:thumbsu:

I've had enough. Love his passion etc. and have always been a big fan of his but he just isnt good enough. Too slow/dumb with the ball in hand. I suppose we need three talls however, and with jamo and bower gone he has to stay?

edit: waitey ...forgot about him setanta out waite in

not looking pretty, but at least i get to see em again. Cant wait to see army

Austin?

can we stop throwing his name into the mix, surely sentanta has done enough as a defender over the last two weeks to warrant his spot.

Austin should continue to develop in the two's until he is fully ready. It is one thing to put a quick dashing back such as army in, but an un ready and not phyiscally built key defender.... no...

westoff will kill austin...

let him learn his trade in the twos and develop..... ala Nathan Brown.

they were drafted the same time, same draft, all be it quite a few draft picks apart but he would want to be a first pick by halfway through next year otherwise last year will be his last at the blues one would think. Some development in the seniors this year to try and establish his downfalls at AFL level will enable them to focus his pre season training.

point well taken however, it still needs to be considered that austin was a bottom age draftee and as such is a year behind brown in phyiscal development.

true but lets establish that is actually his major downfall. Players like Westhoff are quick and pretty agile but dont really attempt to challenge their players one on one. I haven't seen Austin this year, I am sure he worked on his bulk over the summer as a lot of the kids would of so lets get him in, play him, establish his weaknesses and if they are skills and positioning then send him back to the VFL and say look your weakness are X, Y and Z, work on them OR leave him in the AFL and say right at the end of the year you need to work on your bulk and size however your skill and positioning is great.

at the end of the day AFL players are generally quite a step above VFL forwards and a stint in the AFL will help him learn where to be and what to do more so than a lot of the hacks in the VFL.

from all reports by people who have seen him this year, he is still really skinny.

setanta can stop a goal defensively, but cost a goal with the ball through shanks and indecisiveness

i agree, too many silly free kicks, most of them result in goals. it's no secret that come draft time or trade time key backman is what we'll be looking for.
Embley would be great, he could've play on tomahawk last night and use the pill running out of the backline 100 times better than the mad irishman

bentick to slow sorry great work ethic but the game has changed wiggins cannot be a part of where we hope to be in the next 2 seasons but chris judd you bloody champion showed the way. replay his game tonight to our young players to show them how great players win he ball under heavy tags and keep getting up . n stevens watch the great man win the hard ball .may i say the young man with famous no 4 will be a superstar of the afl when our coaching staff finally say bryce dont worry about anyone else just go out and play? gun. .murph forgive everyone has a bad day sometime

Bentick isn't an athlete, he's a footballer and there isn't many of them left!

Embley is a defender and capable of playing on Hawkins who is 197 cms and 100 kgs?

Embley is a flanker/wingman/onballer and would have been smashed.

Maybe Setanta wouldn't be so indecisive if our forwards and mids ran harder to offer a lead.

Even Gibbs cost us a goal when he handballed backwards to Carrazzo under pressure and cost us a goal because he had no one to kick to.

Harsh on Setanta when he didn't grow up playing footy.

He finds a target under pressure better than Russell, Carrazzo and Bentick who have played the game since they were kids.

Probably irrevelant to the discussion now and is just an excuse. He doesn't have much longer to learn the game being 25 years old now.

His best bet is to be groomed in the model of a Prestigiacomo type backman where if he can be the forward everytime in one-on-one contests and have a minimal role in bringing the ball out of defence.

Unfortunately, he won't be the Stynes type of player that supporters were expecting/hoping for.

Also, wouldn't say that he finds targets under pressure better than Carrazzo (Russell maybe, and Bentick is debatable). In comparison to the amount of times Setanta gets the ball and stuffs it up, Carrazzo does it less for the amount of times he gets the ball, in my opinion.

I don't think Setanta is a part of our future, but it's not an excuse to say his kicking isn't any poorer than some other Carlton players who have played the game forever.

Livingston couldn't kick over a jam tin.

Nothing harder than changing from Hurling to AFL footy.
