Pretty amazing how quick the worm can turn sometimes.

2 weeks ago we were looking at our depth as pretty dire and struggling to suggest players to bring up to the seniors..

Nek minnit; we are struggling to work out how to fit them all in!

Bloody good problem to have.

Doubling up against witches hats tends to do that.

De Goey & Fasolo IN
Stephenson & Crocker OUT

Crocker unlucky, or unless they see the weather playing a major part in the result and they drop Cox instead of Crocker.

Given Elliott will have a 12 day break between the Adelaide and Essendon games I can't see how holding him back for Anzac day is really of benefit.

If anything waiting until Anzac Day for his return only to have another AFL game 4 days later is probably less ideal.

Let him get up to speed and blow the cobwebs out this week in Adelaide, have an extended break and then be raring to go for Essendon and Richmond.

Yeah I agree. Fas was better. I just don't see Reid, Cox and Fas in the same forward line working that well. They're a bit slow and no great defensively. What do you think? Two of them together, but not three. Unless Fas can really lift his defensive pressure. So I thought Elliott was a better balance fit.

I reckon if Shaz takes Jenkins he'll need help from Langdon. Langdon can't give that if he's on Betts. So I wonder if they send Maynard to Betts given he was struggling when up the ground and forward. Otherwise it would need to be Crisp I guess.

On Maynard he would be close to being dropped. I wonder what a difference Daicos might make if he replaces him. Swap a poor decision maker with a good one and it redresses the balance a lot. But that's just spit balling by me.

Quicky

I reckon Bucks would be thinking this is one of the hardest weeks to pick a side in his time at CFC.

My sense of what he has said is that they only played their game style for 45 mins so whilst I think a lot of media / fans have got carried away with the win I reckon he probably rated the GWS game as a better performance.

Listening to him yesterday I get the sense he is committed to Cox, Reid and Grundy all playing. He also indicated a fair chunk of that 45 mins had all 3 of those blokes on. I probably agree the three should play albeit I think Cox / Reid might see more bench time. I think Cox needs to be given some time but he doesnt come to that key forward role I would be keen for the club to look at Sam M for a good block of games. I was super impressed with him. Gives a lot of versatility.

That leaves the others. I think you want JDG in for sure. His inside 'grunt and hunt' is needed and also offers another option in the midfield to cover Treloar / Sidebottom etc spending a bit more time forward.

Dont think you can have Elliott and Fasolo and given the opponent and history jamie has had would have him play VFL again and have him cherry ripe for Anzac Day. So yep I would play Fasolo but its line ball.

Mayne is playing wing and HB and I dont think we have a free spot in that area so he has to wait but Daicos would have to be close. His kicking and decision making are elite and he should be in. Wills and Sier need more time for mine.

Trick is who to leave out. Stephenson is the obvious and then I would look at one of Maynard or Brown probably. Aish maybe but think he has been good and they will require Langdon height. Dont think you can drop Varcoe and Stephenson as lose too much speed in front of the ball and on transition out of the fwd 50. I was impressed with Fasolo efforts on weekend so would hope to see that same effort from him.

I think we name our strongest team this week, which include Elliott and De Goey. We have a long break into ANZAC Day, so plenty of recovery time, but then only a short break into the Richmond game.

So I think guys like Fasolo, Daicos, Wills, Mayne, Blair, McLarty, Sier....and even maybe Darcy Moore if fit will play where required.

This week I just think we go full strength, with an eye on a number of underdone players fronting up for 2 of the next 3 games.

The next 3 games define our season. At the bare minimum, we should be 3-3, if we are serious about finals etc.

Yep meaning we need to win against Adelaide or Richmond (plus definitely beat the Bombers) to make up for the one we dropped against Hawthorn. Pretty tough ask.

Season far from over at 2-4 but depends on how well we play in those 4.

For the sake of the exercise I have listed ten players in "dropping order" ...the ten most likely to make way for players coming back from the VFL. The remaining 12 from last weeks game are locks as best 22 (I've included Murray as a lock....thats how confident I am..........in fact I'm also confident about Maynard Aish and Shaz )

Stephenson
Phillips
Crocker
Brown
Langdon
Varcoe
Cox
Maynard
Aish
Scharenberg

Billy seemed to really be running on top of the ground in the magoos. Looked much fitter than last time he missed preseason.

If it came down to a choice between him and Fas coming in I’d be picking Elliott.

Can’t leave players that can turn a game in the magoos if fit.

DeGoey straight in is a no brainer.

Wouldn’t like to see us make more than 2 changes as the team worked with a good synergy last week.

On form Maynard should be dropped but need all options available to mind Eddie.

That's true, but don't discount the benefit of having De Goey, Elliott, Fasolo and Wills all return from injury in that time :)

Doesn't this show how much we overrate our list if these fringe players are in contention. We act like our players outside our 22 are amazing but when we lose they'r copping heat. There's no good problem here because in the ones they'll just shovel up rubbish again.

Do you consider Eliott and JDG fringe players?

I'm fairly new here and to be honest I'm quite surprised at the love Rupert Wills receives. Not that I think he's a complete spud, but he hasn't shown much either. An extended run at it would be great for him!

And overall we beat an ordinary Carlton team and this week play the reigning Grand Finalist who look to be back in form. In their backyard. Call me pessimistic but I'm expecting an honourable loss at best

Might as well just microwave your membership then. Not sure they could have shown better form than they did on the weekend, regardless of the opposition (a team we lost to last year btw). Would you prefer we just shut the doors on the club and not develop players on our list that clearly have talent but have lacked consistency?

Think there is plenty of upside in:
JDG
McFarty
Daicos
Sier
Murphy
..and possibly Wills who was ragdolling all and sundry on Sundy.

And Fas and Elliott have already shown their worth.

Our poor injury management and lack of gameplan in the seniors has adversely affected our depth more than our talent I think. But time will tell.
