Schultz - McDonald
Switkowski - Bergman
Fyfe - Bonar
Tabener - Logue
Frederick - Goater
Jackson/Darcy - Ziebell

I can see how they may not be tempted to rush Corr back. Don't think they will be too concerned about the resting ruck matchup. For me, Corr would be brought in to play on one of their dangerous smalls, rather then the talls.

Sheezel will get switkoski
Corr will get Treacy

I think anyone who watched Freo play would fancy their chances, especially nmfc with a pumped up skill level and quicker more aggressive squad

The psychology of just dropping players like pawns on a board is deeply flawed It is much more likely to be ‘ winning team are winners’ and any changes minimal

The Bonar debate will continue but he has attributes that Corr doesn’t
Corr is 195 and sort of gangly
Bones is 190 and built
JZ is 32, he looks good , kicking was excellent and having some talent nearby Sheez and Goat and Bergs surely helps
But those 3 have played 5 games

I would drop Stepho/ Taylor bring Corr in for the talls
Try the Goat in different spots, still think wing could suit

It's a good problem to have that there isn't an obvious drop due to form.

I suspect CT is safe this week because he demostrated some good forward pressure and physicality, and we know that Clarko rates that highly. (Same reason Kayne Turner won't be dropped).

If someone's getting dropped, my guess is it'll be one of Bergman, Goater, or Scott. All three of those guys played a decent game against the Eagles, so they'd be a bit stiff. But it just comes down to matchups.
Agree with this but Goat is safe
Should play all 22 games at hbf and stints on wing

Insanity if we drop Goater.

Was one of our best on debut and then did nothing wrong on the weekend, infact he impacted the contest a lot with intangible defensive acts, blocks etc. He was also very impressive in the preseason games.

He's also a big athletic POD and can play in all 3 zones of the ground if needed.

We need to get him to 50+ games as soon as possible, as you can see the big uplift we saw in LDU, Scott, LDU, Larkey at the same point. We already wasted a golden opportunity of getting experience into him last year in a year we did nothing in and won 2 games.

You could see him on the weekend being really mindful of his opponent at times, which is a good thing. But once he's comfortable (50+ games), I think we will see him intercept, come off his man, go on big athletic runs, drift forward etc.

The only definite change is Goldie in for X.

I think Corr will come in but at who's expense I am not sure.

There are pros and cons for each of the following (in no particular order) to remain in the team and generally the pros outweigh the cons.

Bonar
Scott
Stepho
Berg
Goat
PC
WilPhil

Having genuine competition for spots is a very nice dilemma to have.

Apart from Clarko does anyone know who else is on the match committee?

The anti Scott people are judging him on how he played 2 years ago, a bit soft, a bit uncertain
He don’t play like that now
Plus he can play as a tagger
Like the rest of them has to get on the scoreboard when he gets the chance

hes still a lot of those things
scott also no good ball in hand

I wouldn't mind omitting Phillips, though I'd rather it be Sleevo or Taylor, but Corr as the sub doesn't make much sense to me?

Yeh sub is a good point. Probably shuffle 1 of the 2 guys you name to sub and Corr comes into starting lineup.

I liked Phillips' game a lot but he was already shown to be the odd man out at R1 selection and for better or worse I think these ~188cm guys a la Scott, Stephenson, Taylor all seem to have specific jobs in the Clarkson team.

While I've mentioned not rating Taylor as highly as others on here, I think Clarkson will look at his overall level of involvement regardless of execution.

From there (imo) he'll give him the challenge to keep up the 4 quarter running and smart positioning but improve on his impact. eg - stick more tackles, use it better and produce the next he gets a clutch opportunity.

Don't see him getting penalised for mistakes when he most probably attempted everything he was asked to do role-wise.

We have one forced change, Xerri will come out for I assume Goldy

We have some structural changes we need to consider, Fremantle last week played with 3 KPP + Fyfe up forward.
Taberner 198cm, Jackson 199cm, Treacy 195cm and Fyfe 191cm

I think Corr needs to come in as a minimum, that would give us:
Corr 195cm, Logue 194cm

We have a quartet of 188-190cm players:
Bonar 188, Ziebell 188, McDonald 189 and Goater 190

We are also going to play with Sheezel down back, who is 185cm and a bit skinny.

My gut feel is they will drop Tracey for another runner, Walters only played 3/4 in a WAFL pre-season game so we might dodge that bullet of him returning.

I think we should take Dawson over as an emergency in case they go with a big forward line.

Logue vs Taberner, Corr vs Jackson, Ziebell vs Fyfe (Logue should have more of an idea how Taberner plays, Corr on Jackson who is new for Freo). If Tracey isn't dropped then I think we will need Dawson to cover a third tall.

FB: McDonald Corr Ziebell
HB: Goater Logue Sheezel
C: Shiels LDU Scott
HF: Zurhaar Comben Simpkin
FF: Curtis Larkey Taylor
C: Goldy Cunnington Powell
I: Greenwood Phillips Turner
S: Stephenson

E: Dawson (in case of 3rd tall forward + Fyfe: replace Goater)

This is my minimal changes take.

Out: Bonar Bergman
In: Corr Goldy

I don't think we intended for Sheezel to play a full game down back but it panned out that way. Bonar would be a good candidate to take on Fyfe but without dropping either Ziebell or McDonald options are limited. Goater is more important for defensive rebound, Bonar had 15 disposals for a total of 38m gained so we aren't going very far with his disposals.

I think Bergman is more deserving of his spot than Stephenson but we have too many half-back flankers. As much as Stevo is likely to do nothing, if we lose a mid or forward or need some run he is more likely to do some damage. If we do need to also bring Dawson in I might put Goater as the sub instead of Stevo.

I wouldn't guarantee a position at all for Corr until we come against a side with multiple behemoths, the next being Carlton in Round 4. Even then, I'd give the incumbents a chance until McKay is right.

we are playing a side that played Treacy, Jackson, Fyfe and Tabener

we need him in for a small defender

we cant just go with 1 kpd and 1 third tall
need another kpd in to support logue and bonar

Nah Freo are tall enough up front to need the extra kpd.

Jackson is playing a hybrid unicorn Ruck/quasi midfielder and his forward prowess has always been fairly questionable.

I'd comfortably back in a Bonar or JZ to take Fyfe, a sad indictment of where Fyfe is at with his footy.

Tbh this is not a tall forward line that is overly threatening, but they do get a lot of goals from Schulz and Switkowski. Playing small is the way to go.

I can't see how you would expect Ziebell lining up on someone 2m tall is going to end well.

You also left out Treacy who is 195cm or might be switched out for Amiss who is taller.

If they are allowed to dominate in the middle like we have let them the last few times, you don't really want to be that short down back.
