Who's available?

I would like to be in a position not to risk players before the 2 week break, but the season is on the line this weekend. If McPharlin looks like he can play, then we have to take a punt.

Now that I've had time to think about it;these are the changes I'd like to see

OUT:Webster,Schofield,Smith,Medhurst,Thornton.

Parker Johnson Grover
Mundy Polak Gilmore
Scham Cook Dodd
Farmer Pav Headland
Sandi Murphy Crowley

Jlo Carr Bell

Haselby Black Browne Peake

Emerg; Smith Medhurst

Don't think i'll get within a bulls roar of the actual team tho. Can't see Thornton or Medhurst getting dropped.

Thats not a bad team Scham. I reckon Thornton might get a rest as I reckon he is feeling the pinch a bit.

Medders might as well although he did have Leo Barry on him.

Browne and Peake...two players I'd like to see in the team. Well, the way our season has gone this year might aswell focus on blooding some more youngsters to really add to our depth so that if we go through injury problems like we have this year we'll be able to cope.

Over the off season I'd like to see MJ really pump some iron and bulk up and he could be one of the best key position defenders in the game IMO.

Changes for this week:

IN: Browne, Peake, Polak
OUT: Schofield, Webster, Thornton (rested)

Medhurst on his last string but in reality he's a small forward, 2 goals a game realistically is all we could possibly ask of him.

Too much pressure on both Farmer and Medhurst to kick all the goals. We need to stick Murphy up there and leave him. He provides a target, and okay, he'll probably drop most, but that leaves Medhurst and Farmer to crumb.

Murphy will never learn until he is left up there. Matthew Lloyd didn't set the world on fire in his first two seasons, but he was left in the forward line.

Yeah, you're right, and also playing Sandi up there a bit more would make sense. I mean it worked in the Geelong game and we've barely used him up there since? Makes you wonder?

I agree, they can rest in the upcoming break as there's way too much on the line this weekend!! We need players like Thornton in the back half, especially with his run out of defence on Subi.

I said rest not drop. Scotty after a severely limited preseason appears to me to have hit the wall a bit in the last few games although he was much better against Sydney.

I thought that a bit of a break would have him back to his best after the break.*

There is no way that Thornton will be DROPPED or RESTED.
I am very confused as to the thinking of some people here.Either he is dropped or is going to be unfit for duty on the weekend. There is absolutely no way we can rest players.Scotty is now I believe one of those players who is considered to be a senior player. His value to the side is similar to James Walker.
Walker is the player we miss so very much of the players who have been out through injury.
Ripper prior to your post on this I have been a big believer in what you say but don't let the no knowledge people here sway your better judgement.I can not believe you wrote that.

Agree completely. I am a big fan of both.

No one sways my judgement. I was just thinking of Scotty. He has had a limited preseason , has played every game so far this season , has had that mystery virus that affected his immune system and I thought (possibly incorrectly) that it would be dangerous to push him too hard.

But the medico's would have a far better grip on that than I.

That is all. No slight intended, I am the last one to hang ******** and the first one to look at the good things our players do around here.

Ripper I agree with the last part of your post,I know yuou stick by your thoughts through thick and thin but it just suprised me that you thought Scotty should be rested. If he is fit then he will play, there is no way in the world that he will be rested with so much at stake for the club.

I'm a fan of Thorntons but his last month has been ordinary and Mundy and Johnson have been playing better footy. Hopefully all Scotty needs is a week off, which he will get after we beat the roos.

Thornton should he or shouldnt he play ?

If he is unwell, mentally fatigued or carrying an injury he should be rested.

If he ready willing and able to face his demons (from last year) let him loose. If he has a good game it could define his footy carreer if he fumbles and flops it will be long road back.

Hopefully we have a top range sports psychologist working with him.
