What does losing Bassett have to do with Roo losing his spot? We lose one of our most experienced players, so we should also lose a second?

What happened to faith in the captain? I think people are over-reacting cos of the WCE loss. VB gets 15 possessions and everyone offers him their first born. Roo's presence on the ground is invaluable.

I have said this about Roo from the outset of his return. I believe, no matter WHO it is, they must be able to contribute. At the moment, Roo is unable to. I believe it will be best for him (and the team) if he regains his fitness, strength and ability back in the two's. The reason it is MORE important now that Bassett is out, is that we cannot afford to lose this valuable player and replace him with a stop gap measure whilst also supporting Roo's very slow return. We would be one and a half players down if we do. Roo's presence is not winning us games. We need more from him than that.

The biggest mistake we could make is to have wholesale changes further unsettling this poor bloody team! :thumbsd: Make the changes that are necessary - not just because.

Out: Bassett (inj) Roo (omm)

In: Goodwin, Burton

Move Bock or McGregor back to plug Bassetts loss. Burton to the forward flank, Goodwin to the midfield.

no offence but i think you're losing it.....Mark Ricciuto will not get dropped from this Adelaide Crows line up unless he tells craigy he wants to be dropped back....that wont happen.....he's our captain and the club's greatest ever player and in that note he is far from our wost this year...he takes a good player every week, teams look at our line-up and see ricciuto's name on the list and it adds a totally different dimension to our team, week in week out he does the 1%'s sheperds, bumps, pressure, setting up team mates taking hits, he is what every coach looks for in a players......you may be trying to make a statment and i respect that but...this one is case closed..

I agree.. absoloutley does the 1% and can provide a spark in the middle and get in there and get that handball out. He is a playmaker which we need not to mention his leadership. We are lacking in that area atm if goody (could play), burton (could play) & basset (won't play) don't play and then you throw in Roo!!!

I think the other key is the fact that his name on paper looks very dangerous and he HAS to attract a quality opponent.

On a side note, porps is quality and needs to play. great skillful forward who can lead and crumb and most importantly convert. He probably drifts into and out of the game a little to easily but some of that can be put down to our forward structure and delivery/entry into the forward line.

Selection is interesting this week, seeing as we don't really have a defender ready to replace Bassett (I'd like to say we have Hinger or McIntyre ready, but we just don't). Their forward line will be Franklin, Roughhead and Croad. Who will take the third forward? Rutten and Stevens will take Roughhead and Franklin. Should we throw Bock back, and play Griffin up forward? West Coast's height worried us, and Hawthorn's forwards play just as tall. I say have Bock on Croad, play Griff up forward, with Maric as the second ruckman. Welsh needs to be dropped. Massie is dead stiff, but with Goodwin back he gets squeezed out. Douglas to come in if either Doughty or Mattner don't perform this week.

In: Goodwin, Burton, Maric
Out: Bassett, Welsh, Massie

B: Johncock - Rutten - Bock
HB: McLeod - Stevens - Mattner
C: Knights - Van Berlo - Reilly
HF: Porplyzia - Griffin - Edwards
F: Ricciuto - McGregor - Burton
1R: Hudson - Thompson - Goodwin
IC: Burton - Maric - Shirley - Doughty
EMG: Douglas - Massie - Vince

Welsh won't be dropped pj, so stop trying. He is our highest goal kicker for the year and that has been our major let down so far this year.

Some people, Massie got third best in some media outlets last week and the week before was in the best players. Seriously he will keep his spot no matter who they bring in.

I agree. Massie has played well the last 2 weeks, whilst other players are struggling yet people are talking off dropping him. Even more puzzling with Bassett out - look how he played on a tall forward last week, when Mattner could not cope after covering for Bassett.

Also agree.

Why would we drop one of our few matchwinner, when we are struggling to kick goals?

If Roo is only capable of playing like he did last week due to injury, then IMO he should be dropped/rested. We badly need a fit Roo in our team, but if he is only capable of running on the spot like last week, we are better off playing 1 of our in form midfielders from the SANFL.

FF: Welsh, Ricciuto, Griffin
CHF: Porplyzia, McGregor, Stevens
C: Knights, van Berlo, Mattner
CHB: Massie, Bock, Torney
FB: McLeod, Rutten, Johncock
1R: Hudson, Goodwin, Edwards
INT: Doughty, Shirley, Maric, Reilly

In: Maric
Out: Bassett

Can someone tell me what Shirley offers this team apart from a few hard ball gets? I would drop him in a second, but Craig won’t, so he’ll stay in and Douglas will have to wait another week in the SANFL. Unfortunately unless Doughty is dropped there’s no room for Douglas. We’ll go another week with mediocre midfielders.

I’ve got Mattner playing off the wing because it’s beyond a joke now that he’s still languishing in defence. Let him run, create and tackle forward of centre.

Switch Stevens and Bock around so Stevens is up forward while Bock is down back. Looking at the backline it's probably too small, so perhaps roll the dice and put Johncock forward and then McGregor down back.

Maric comes in for Bassett which allows Griffin to play as a permanent forward and Maric as the back-up ruckman.

Burton Goodwin???

The weather is expected to be cold and wet for Saturday night so I cannot see the match committee playing any extra tall’s this week. Nick Gill and Ivan Maric will miss out because of the conditions so by playing any unnecessary taller player they become a liability especially as a forward. So this also rules out Griffin playing as a forward.

Richard Douglas has shown some very good form in the SANFL and should be rewarded with a call up but I doubt they will make more than the two changes, once again the AFC match committee will not drop any senior player; it will be another kid in Porplyzia.

In – Goodwin, Burton,

Out – Bassett, Porplyzia

FF: Burton ~ Ricciuto ~ Welsh

HF: Edwards ~ McGregor ~ Knights

C: Reilly ~ Thompson ~ Doughty

HB: McLeod ~ Bock ~ Torney

FB: Stevens ~ Rutten ~ Johncock

Ruck: Hudson ~ Goodwin ~ Shirley

Interchange – Griffin ~ Van Berlo ~ Mattner ~ Massie

You say that it will be wet, therefore no talls. But you drop Porplyzia, who is the perfect wet-weather player.

If it came down to me there would be multiple omissions this week because we were piss poor in the midfield last week but I doubt the match committee will go down that path.

In the end it came down to either him (Porplyzia) or Kris Massie and Massie won out in the end because his form has been very good in his 2 performances this season.

Goodwin still unavailable to play. Bugger.

That changes things.

OK, OK, I know Welsh won't be dropped, so I will go with what will happen, rather than what I want to happen :p

In: Burton
Out: Bassett

Straight swap. Burton to start foward, Bock to go back.

I agree, unfortunately Porplyzia has to go, that just the way it is, if there is injuries he will be back he now just needs to go back and perfrom as well as we know he can, Burton and Goodwin will come in hands down if they are ready and Massie has proved something so he will stay.
What a beautiful position we are in at the moment though, people wanting to break through everywhere, injured players returning. We are looking a strong side at the moment.

Where did you get that info PJ?

Reid said he expected Goodwin, Burton & McLeod to all be available, & that they were considering Sellar as a tall option, given Perrie won't be available.
