I'm not a hater of Doughty but, other than this PS, he hasn't done anything special and just about every time he got near the ball yesterday he ****ed it up and turned it over.

In: Maric
Out: Doughty/Reilly

If Reilly is fit say goodbye to Doughty, Shirley also very lucky to hang on ahead of Campbell.

I didn't mind what I saw from the younglings yesterday.....but was distressed at the same old crap from the same old suspects.

Give me baby's making mistakes any day......:thumbsu:

We need another tall for the West Coke game......ie back to a more traditional mix.

Who to bring in though ??

Probably needs to be Maric which gives Kurt time in the fwd line where he is most damaging.

if Reilly is ok...

out: Shirley
in: Maric

if Reilly doesn't make it...

out: Shirley, Reilly
in: Maric, Massie (or Knights if fit)

Can all the Doughty haters give an explanation as to why he should be dropped. He has done nothing wrong all pre- season and gave a solid performance today.
Agree. Thought he was ok yesterday and, best of all, played predominantly in defence which means he may be able to command a spot in the 22 even as we start to bring through our new midfield.

Possibilities to come in this week:
Maric - depends if there is a defensive match up for all of Rutten, Bock, Stevens and Bassett. If there isn't (as was the case against the Bulldogs) then one of those four will be used up forward and Tippett will again share ruck duties with Griffin.

Jericho - Would need to displace Mckay, hopefully won't happen.

Massie - straight swap for Reilly perhaps with Doughty and/or Shirley spending more time in the middle. Perhaps the most likely change is Reilly out, Massie in.

Jacky - not yet.

Campbell - straight swap for Reilly into the midfield rotation. Reilly out, Campbell in would have the least 'domino effect' on yesterday's line up.

Out: Reilly
In: Massie or Campbell

Are Sturt playing Norwood? :)

Can all the Doughty haters give an explanation as to why he should be dropped. He has done nothing wrong all pre- season and gave a solid performance today. A lot of other players went missing today like Thompson and VB but somehow you decide Doughty is the problem. FFS this guy is going to have to win the Brownlow to get some supporters off his back.

Doughty is and will always be a servicable player at best. He showed yesterday up the pressure and he drops marks, fumbles and kicks poorly. Comparing him to Thompson is stupid, Thompson has shown his value to the team as has Goodwin, Edwards and Mcleod and have earnt the right to have an off day. You are not going to drop any of these guys ahead of Doughty.

Assuming we had a full list to choose from, would you want Doughty ahead of Van Berlo, Knights, Douglas, Vince or McKay? If you would, youd prefer us to develop a 28 yr old ahead of our youth. Then watch us come bottom when Goodwin etc retire. Same goes for Shirley.

Was watching Doughty long before his AFL stint. Knew he was AFL bound. Always saw him as having great skills, long kick, and fine balance. Had an offy maybe, but he is equal to our best hardball getter. Will recapture 2006 (great season for him) and NOB cup form. Can't axe him on one performance.

Their has to be a mix of older and younger players. He is 28 but obviously that is the new 35. I am all for injecting fresh blood into the team, and that has been my major gripe for the last few seasons but players have to be ready.

For the record here are Doughty's stats from yesterday.

16 possessions ( 11 other players saw less of the ball)
7 contested possessions
4 tackles
3 frees for
0 against
1 inside 50
1 clearance
3 marks

Keep in mind spent most of the day in defence.

Now here is the stat you have all been waiting for

2 clangers

Other players who had 2 or more clangers. Goodwin, Porplyzia, Thompson, Van Berlo, Griffin, Vince, Shirley, Symes.

So you have just disregarded everything I said, who would you drop if we had a full list to choose from?

So you are obviously happy with a 16 possession game? Do the 2 clangers include his dropped marks?

Look, I would select a team based on merit. If you want to start building for the future in round one I accept that. Thats just not how I see it.

As far as the clanger count goes, it is described as a blatant unforced error. Make of that what you will.

But you have to admit if Doughty isnt in the team are we missing much?

Whist that would be hard to gauge that may be the case. I think he is a solid workmanlike performer which is what every team needs. He has a good work ethic and trains his arse off during the week. From what I have seen at training he is one of the more popular players and respected by the playing group.

I just dont think the tsunami of criticism he cops when he has been no better or worse than others is fair. In a lot of supporters case it is mindless drivel. Maybe if he wore fluro boots and ran a bleach rinse through his hair the haters might lay off him.

Just had a look at his stats from the weekend, his 16 possessions came from 94% game time, only Burton had less possessions (1) from more game time and he kicked 5 goals.

On pre-season form do you think his selection was warranted. I sure do.
If he isn't worthy of a spot Craigy will drop him like he did last year. If we are in 14th spot with 5 rounds to go then lets play all the youngsters. But at the moment i think we are a better team with Mick Doughty in it.

What's your point ? Or is that just some random fact from the game ?

Have you read the whole thread, Dogga bought up his stats as a defence of his game and that there were others with less possessions. I am merely pointing out he had more possessions because he had more game time and he had less than others with similar game time.

Preseason yes, but when the real stuff starts his game is exposed as it was yesterday. Again who would you drop for him with a full list to choose from?

In: Maric, Campbell
Out: Reilly (inj), Vince (omit)

He might be in ordinary form but I can't believe Maric was dropped. He MUST play as it enables Tippett to play permanently up forward.

Campbell was an emergency against the Dogs and he was BOG for Norwood on Thursday. Given Reilly's injury, he comes in. Vince is dropped because he's not an AFL standard player. Thanks for coming Bernie.

Doughty made some costly errors but I thought he did some good work. Shirley is rubbish but we all know how much he is valued by the coaching staff.

Whilst I too was thinking of dropping Vince, IMO he needs to be given a few games to prove his worth. You can't judge youngsters after a game & dropping them straight away doesn't help with the confidence. We can't afford a yo-yo selection policy.

BTW, IMO Vince will be a better player than Campbell, as he has an X-factor, which Campbell doesn't. Campbell will get his chance sooner rather than later though if he continues BOG performances.

I'd probably be more inclined to drop Shirley to be honest. I'm usually a fan, but he's in poor form and should not have been selected based on his nab cup performances. I think Vince goes ok, a solid SANFL player who racks up reasonable numbers he just needs some more AFL time to get settled at this level.

I also think Campbell goes ok and has been a bit stiff. Solid body, good quality disposals, like everyone just needs some time on the ground after showing he has what it takes at SANFL level.

good selection call :thumbsu:

How do we know how Campbell goes, we've hardly had a chance to see him. After yet another BOG for Norwood he MUST be rewarded with a game.

I saw a few Norwood games last year and he looked good. Sometimes goes missing for a bit, but most of what I saw, I thought he could be AFL quality. Perhaps not first class, but he definitely could hold his own at the top level.

A lot of players will say he's a bit one dimensional, he's too old etc etc but I say, lets have a look at him at AFl level, give him some quality game time and we can all make our judgements then.

Apologies, I missed it. Thought you introduced some stats out of nowhere.

:o

Basset ahahahahahaha your an idiot....NUFF said, no hope he's gettin dropped....

doughty is IMO the worst player in the AFL getting a regular senior game....he ****s it almost everytime he goes near it, he make me cringe whenever it goes near him....even massie dare i say it, is a much better option...

Reilly will be fine, bit of padding will be heaps for that injury...

Why thankyou, what a lovely thing to say. I realise not many would agree with my comments, and I don't particuarly mind that you think I'm an idiot, but I think if we bring Maric in, like most, including myself are calling for, a tall should come out. I realise we picked a side that was more suited to a smaller Bulldogs side, but I think we had enough talls in that side, against most sides, just missing a geniune ruckman for our second ruck option. IMO if Maric is to come in, and say Reilly go out, we will be run around far too easily, by what is still avery strong WC side. I could also be very wrong, they know what there doing down at the club, but I think one has to fall, and looking through them Bassett was the one I selected. usually it would be Kenny, but he played well enough, and has the fire power to kick goals, which we'll need against the Eagles. IMO Stevens has moved past Bassett in the pecking order, and there isn't really a need for 4 tall backs. I know Stevens can, and di on the weekend play forward, but if Tippett is permanently forward there is no real need. If we only go in with one ruckman as well, Cox and Seaby will eat us alive.

To your other comments, I think Doughty has given enought to keep his spot. He busts his gut at every contest, puts his body on the line, and should be rewarded until he has an absolute stinker. And no, a bit of padding won't be heaps for a broken wrist.

So 11 games is enough to say Bernie won't make it? Give him a proper opportunity in the midfield for a fair stretch of games and see how he goes.
