Changes for next week

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

In : Carr, Browne, Ibbo, Drum, Black

Out : Peake, Thornton, Dodd, could have a case for anyone really.
I thought Ibbo played well in the second half (did not see the first half last week).

I have always thought Browne is a good player
Drum should have played round 1.
Black can kick a ball 15m and hit a target, which is better that 15 players on the weekend.
He can also kick a ball 50m and hit a target.

Another one to consider is Mark Johnson. His skills are good.

If he comes straight back in I'll be spewing.

He's missed 3 weeks, and the one and only game he played (against Collingwood) he had 10 possessions for 5 clangers.

Let him come back through the WAFL and earn it just like everyone else should.

Drummy had 37 possessions, 15 marks, 10 inside 50s and kicked 3 goals on the w/e. yes it was only in a reserves match, but what else does the boy have to do?

he also kicked 4 goals against Adelaide at AAMI last year - unless he and Harvs' missus have been caught in a rather compromising position, he surely has to get a run this weekend.

Matt Carr  step backwards
Browne  step backwards (see Thornton's game last week)
Ibbo  (more deserving youngsters than Ibbo at present)
Black  (Needs another 2-3 weeks building fitness)

Brock and Drummy should come in, Foster still needs at least 2 more WAFL matches under his belt in my opinion. Ibbo is an interesting one, he looks disinterested in the WAFL match so I wouldnt be giving him a go this weekend.

I am not into all the hype surrounding brock, however having watched on the weekend he was explosive and could pass the ball advantage side of the leading player.

Foster was stiff at times, still looked classy though. Agree two to three in the wafl, we dont want to bring him back early and to stuff his back up for the rest of his career.

Ibbo, seemed to be in the game more than what i have previously seen, still very much developing, you would think DRUM, BROCK and HINKLEY have to come in.

You mean the midfield that was a worry two years ago? The one that could have done well to have a young speedster in it, rather than a forward who looks closer to retirement than a premiership? But instead we traded a high pick, in a super draft, for a hack.

Great.

You may be correct, BUT we needed someone(big Name) to take the Pressure off PAV. Pav was getting frustrated, getting double, triple teamed......AND A FRUSTRATED PAV MAY NOT HAVE SIGNED A CONTRACT EXTENTION. It was done to Keep Pav Happy(ier) at Freo. They made retaining Pav the priority First, then tried to strengthen the midfield....At that time, Haze was returning after a fix up in his guts...A Browne was getting back. Peake was on the up. It was after the 06 winning streak, where we were sometimes dominating in the midfield...

So go figure.:p

This is the team I would play on Saturday:

FF: Jeffrey Pav Drum

HF: Mayne Tarrant Bell

C: Gilmore Solomon Crowley

HB: Head Johnson Dodd

FB: Grover McPharlin Hayden

Ruck: Sandi Brock Palmer

I/C: Warnock, Josh, Des, Schammer

Emer: Duffield, Hinkley, Mundy

Out: Peake, Thornton, Mundy, Duffield
In: Brock, Head, Drum, MiJohnson

Duff didn't do a lot wrong (any more than anyone else) but is one of the most expendable unfortunately.

Mundy needs to be sent a clear message.

Brock, Head and Drum need to be rewarded for good WAFL form, and Johnno is an inclusion if he is fit. Otherwise Mundy or Duffield might get a reprieve.

Josh and Des can start on the bench - let them know their efforts last week were pathetic and unacceptable.

Thornton needs more WAFL time, as does Foster.

Black and MaJohnson need to come back through the WAFL and not be automatic selections.

Ibbo needs to string 2-3 solid games together before coming back into consideration.

Browne is unlucky but I am not convinced he is the way forward.

Macca and MCarr should not play another game for this club, unless we are decimated by injury and then we should still look to the youngsters first.

We might not win the game, but at least there would be some young fellas getting a run and hopefuly having a crack - while slackers like Peake and Mundy can find some form and learn how to chase in the WAFL.

Everyone seems to have dropped off Ibbo pretty quickly. From memory in our best v North Melbourne and Port Adelaide in the NAB. Emergency v Collingwood, played against Hawthorn when everyone was calling for the youngsters. Missed due to injury against WCE and was emergency last week.
His game last week against Peel followed a full training session with Freo in the morning so was payed in a back pocket until the last quarter. Would have been in EF best players in the last quarter when moved up the ground included a goal on the run from outside 50 while everyone else was kicking points.
If we need youngsters with good skills and pace he needs to be given a few games not in one week out the next.

IP how did Head go on the weekend?

Don't know I didn't see the game. But Souths were spanked to half time, so not sure that any of them really had a good game (except Toby McGrath).

Head's stats: 12 kicks, 3 handballs, 6 marks, 2 150s.

He was BoG the week before against Peel (yes I know - slighly differemt opposition than Adelaide at AAMI)

20 odd possessions, 6 I50s, 2 goals.

Just have a feeling we have to do something, and while Head doesn't have the class of Mundy, he plays a similar position / role and certainly wouldn't bring any complacency to the game.

Yeah? I wasn't aware of that. That might explain why he was a bit quiet to start with. Certainly came alive in the last quarter.

Did the other guys playing WAFL train with Freo on Sat morning also?

Only the emergencies train, not those who are not on standby. The Freo team trained at East Freo oval on Saturday morning from around 9am until 11am so Ibbo trained then got on the East Fremantle team bus for Mandurah.

Live in Melbourne and no info on Freo unless its to bag them and wondering how Keplar went in the WAFL .Seemed to have good stats and I think some of our supporters have followed like sheep and adapted Essendons rubbishing of him .Played really well in VFL last season and that comp is much tougher than WAFL so if Murphy and co cant get a kick there and Bradley/s had good form in VFL and WAFL why not try him at FF.He at least can take a grab and pinch hit in ruck and would be difficult to man up on .

You guys have some talented kids running around the WAFL who are AFL ready.

Brock O'Brien
Andrew Foster
Marcus Drum
Clayton Hinkley
Calib Mourish

These guys are going to be your future.

Mourish is probably a year away from being AFL ready, hence he is on the rookie list. But he is slowly getting there. He will either be something pretty special or an absolute spud. I really can't see any in-between area for Calib.

Drum should play every game for the rest of the year. Foster will probably play the last 11 or so straight.

Brock will get some games but probably not more than 10, Hinkley probably will be lucky to get 6.

With Haselby and Webster out for the year can and should Freo promote Mourish and a another youngster off the rookie list? Moruish has showen good form in the wafl in recent weeks.
Drum should be playing every game in stead of Thornton.

I think it would be a mistake to elevate Mourish this year, he really is not ready for AFL football.

You're right, Kepler has been unfairly treated by most posters on this board. I think your analogy of sheep was spot on.

He was superb for the falcon's this week, and yes he does offer us something - 200cm and very, very mobile! He can play ruck and be very mobile like all of the best ruckmen in the comp atm, but he can play forward or back as well!
