Changes for next week

I have bad news for all those calling for Henderson's selection... we can't.

We currently have 2 players on the LTI list - Martin and Otten. Martin has been replaced by Schmidt and Otten has been replaced by Jaensch. We can't promote Henderson next week unless we place another player on the LTI list - Moran & Hentschel would be the obvious candidates, but doing so means that the club is consigning them to the injury list for a minimum of 8 weeks.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that he has needs another op and is basically out for the season

I believe that we should only include someone if their SANFL form demands they be picked, or else we set them up for disaster. At this stage I believe that Jaensch is the only one demanding to be picked. Let the others keep putting the pressure on through performance and demand to be picked! At this stage I am yet to see someone other than Jaensch demanding inclusion before others in the team. The SANFL guys will develop, but as we saw with Sellar, it takes time.

However, Tyson Edwards is a 300 game player and 2-time premiership player for the club who will go down as one of the greats of his era in our history, and does not deserve insults thrown at him.

i for one, agree about Burton's omission or at least don't play him at full forward. why make him our number one forward target if he can't kick straight.
...Henderson won't come in though.., especially considering Stevens should be back soon, Sellar may be available for selection this week or next and McKernan has been lingering on the emergency list...and doesn't Henderson play up forward??? we seem to have too many of those if i recall.

Matty Jaensch for Petrenko. Every time he got near the ball he got the fumbles not clean, not up to standard. Stevens back in for Doughty if fit. McKernan or Sellar in for Cook. Need two ruckmen so that Walker and Tippet stay in forward line for the whole game so there is someone to kick the damn pill to.

Burton to a flank or wing or out...his kicking for goal was downright embarrassing, Tex Walker FF and leave him there for the season. Craigy is killing the best chance for a FF since Mods. Goal kicking practice for forwards and mids everyday this week. Sack the forward coach as he is obviously not up to the job. Tell Tippett to stop leaning back on his kicks for goal. Stop trying for the perfect get away with dinky 2m handballs-its called football for a reason.

I don't know what the hell Craigy was doing in all those closed sessions in the preseason, because that was a big waste of Ftime.

I can see 0-6 in the crystal ball then it will be the Tigers in round 7 and they even scored more than we did today. Hell it could be 0-7.

I love this club and it pains me to see the tripe they are dishing up at the moment.

What we are looking at here is Roo all over again, playing one season too many because "he wanted to" it shouldn't be the players choice.

What point are you trying to make, that its bullshit that non performing former champions get to play on as long as they want, while solid consistent contributors who actually have a season or two left in them get shafted. I agree with you, its not fair that torney and Massie got sacked, while Edwards gets a free pass to spud it up.

Just to clarify, Hart, Torney, Massie and Shirley are not and were never in the boys club.

I think it was Phil Harper who said on 5AA this week that we have the ability to upgrade 3 rookies this year and probably will due to LTI's, with Moran being the 3rd LTI, as he is unlikely to play this year.

Adelaide's history always has been to hold off on upgrading rookies until they are right on the verge of selection, and I'm sure the same will apply to Henderson.

I happily accept that Moran, Hentschel and are probably all candidates for the LTI list (in that order). However, until we formally notify the AFL and get them to put them on the list, our hands are bound.

We've already upgraded 2 rookies. We can upgrade a 3rd from R12 onwards without the need to have a player on the LTI list.

of course he was, apart from him and Stiffy there was no movement from our backline. The two best pieces of play of the day were from Truck, both in the 3rd, when he ran through Henderson, put him down and hurt him and then when he ran through the middle and showed composure going inside 50 (that not a single midfielder could muster) to find Burton on his own with great kick. Pity Burton then ****ed it up kicking for goal. The FB is the least of our problems.

I'm of the opinion that we should be sending Porplyzia back to the SANFL, rather than Edwards or Doughty. At least Edwards & Doughty are getting their hands on the pill, right now an inanimate carbon rod would be more productive than Porps.

Edwards might have turned into a turnover merchant, but he's one of the few players we have who is currently winning the ball. With 89 disposals he's our 4th highest disposal winner and the only one of the top-4 with a decent kick-to-handball ratio (Goodwin's is a disgusting 1:2). Put bluntly, we'd lose more than we gained by dropping him. Dumping him in favour of youth needs to wait until we can no longer make the finals - for now we still need to be be trying to win every game we can.

Dropping Porplyzia would achieve the desired result, in terms of sending a message about "no more golden tickets". Unlike Edwards, the replacement player is actually likely to improve the side - given that Porplyzia is currently giving us precisely nothing. My suggestion: replace Porplyzia with Jaensch.

I agree. But Porps shouldn't have been picked in round 2. He was in desperate need of run and touch then and still is, he should be getting that back at Westies if he has barely had a pre-season. Not at AFL level.

You don't like Porps do you? Seem to remember a thread last season where you were trying to get rid of him - luckily the club didn't listen!

I know Edwards is finding the ball but he is also spending a heck of a lot of time in the centre square with no direct match up. He's going to get some footy no matter how he plays. I don't think the other teams care any more whether he gets it or not.

The time Edwards is spending in the centre square you divide up between Dangerfield, Porplyzia, Knights and Douglas who have all been predominantly forward. I don't think we'd lose anything plus I think extra midfield time would have a positive impact on all of those guys.

Love Edwards and I have no problem with the club giving him another season but right now he needs a week or two away from it. Sting the pride and he will come back rejuvenated, eager to prove everyone wrong.

A fit & firing Porplyzia is one of my favourite Crows. History will say that I made the wrong call last year, though I stand by my statement that he had a very ordinary start to the season but masked it by his unerring accuracy.

Is there anyone out there who would argue that Porps should NOT be in the SANFL this week?
