To be honest, I can't believe that Petrenko has gotten off as lightly as he has in the reviews of this game. He looked like a deer in the spotlight every time he got the ball - and that wasn't terribly often. Both Pro-Stats and Champion Data had him down for just 9 disposals. No Crows player had fewer disposals. Pro-Stats gave him a fairly generous 67% efficiency, meaning that only 6 of his disposals found a target. For the life of me, I can't remember any of those 6 disposals.

Why is his name not being bandied about for dropping, when Edwards - who managed 23 (or 25 depending on your source) disposals, of which 19 were effective, supposedly has his head on the chopping block?
Agree on your views on Petrenko and I believe only chance of staying in team to put some pace ,defence work and tackling ability into defence end.
That is why Edwards and even Macca have to peform at best as have no defence or tackling in their repetoire at all .
However of regular players I can only see Porps and Doughty under real pressure unless they rest Tippett.
Douglas is getting more of the ball but still stuffs up and always manages to fall over or something when there is a real opportunity so will be under pump as well .
I havent been a Cook fan at all and whilst not wanting to write him off yet he seems to only have his speed as a asset and nothing else.
Putting Burton down onto that wing is only way to use this guys asset as forward line will NOT function correctly with him there .
Mckernan has not had form to say pick me but could be given a job as 2 nd ruck or tall defence and at least be competitive at the ball and player.
If VB and Stevo fit get them into team ready for Power and Richmond.
Jaensch must play has the form and footy nous that Davis showed on Sat. and will add something to this team and has a penetrating kick .
With regard to upgrading rookie we could if needed to do a Power and LTI a player like M.Motlop and Butcher that were never going to get in Power team anyway.
Have a real belief that Henderson going to be a better player than Petrenkos , Cooks etc but not sure this week necessary or more to the point will happen with Craigs reluctance to try too much.

I'd say that all 3 will be promoted at the end of the year anyway, possibly to be joined by Luke Thompson. Wright to be retained, with Donnelly's time on our list coming to an end.

Has it been confirmed that we have the option to retain rookies in the current draft without leaving them vulnerable to be taken by GC?

I just think that it may be exactly the type of thing Craig may do, to prove a point to people.

I hope its not the case though.

Won't happen, VB is basically a given to return, NC has said as much and you'd think if Stevens gets up, then he'd be back in straight away, our side is rather exposed at the moment in the tall department, with only 5 blokes over 190cm fronting against Carlton on the weekend.

That's good to hear

Absolutely. The only way they could take him off our hands would be to offer him a bucketload of money, enticing him to refuse our offer of a 2nd year on the list. They would then have to draft him. Either that, or they could offer to trade for him, like Sydney did with Mumford last year.

If Wright wants to stay at the Crows and is happy to remain on our rookie list, then there's nothing GC or anyone else can do about it.

...Edwards... to a small forwards role, with just short stints in the midfield as a relief player.
... Porplyzia...a week or two in the SANFL
...Burton ...further up the ground ...

So for mine, my changes would be:

In: van Berlo, Stevens(McKernan/Young if Stevo not fit), Jaensch
Out: Porplyzia, Cook, Petrenko(or perhaps Doughty, but I doubt it, pun intended:o)

B: Johncock - Rutten - Schmidt
HB: Goodwin - Stevens - Reilly
C: Mackay - Thompson - Burton
HF: Knights - Davis - McLeod
FF: Edwards - Tippett - Walker
1R: Maric - Vince - Dangerfield
I: van Berlo, Jaensch, Doughty, Douglas

If McKernan comes in, instead of Stevo, I'd use him as a 2nd ruck, with Davis playing at CHB and leaving Tippett at FF permanently. Otherwise, I'd be using Tippett as 2nd ruck with Davis as a full time lead up half forward, with Tippett and Walker playing deep.

On the changes, whilst I know many want to see the kids play, but now is not the time for this, its far, far too early to raise the white flag. Look at the flack the PAP's copped and they did it midseason. We need to continue to commit 100% to making the finals, if we say lose our next 2-3 matches that's different, then we need to start looking at next year. However at the moment, 11-12 wins from 18 is not impossible, I know no ones done it, but f***, records are made to be broken and I'd hate to think I supported a club that gave up as soon as soon as the going got tough, thats for Power, not the AFC.

Agree with most of your take on changes, James_37, especially the last paragraph. :thumbsu: However, I think Stevens and McKernan will come in, rather than Stevens and Jaensch.

Re the detail of who plays where, I don't think Davis would be moved forward after a solid debut down back even if Stevens does come back. (Love to be proven wrong, however :D).

So more likely:

B: Johncock - Rutten - Davis
HB: Doughty - Stevens - Reilly
C: Mackay - Thompson - Burton
HF: Knights - Walker - McLeod
FF: Edwards - Tippett - Goodwin
1R: Maric - Vince - Dangerfield
I: Mckernan, van Berlo, Douglas, Schmidt

I think McKernan is on the edge of selection, and using Maric/McKernan against a Hudson/Minson combo seems a good second debut (whatever match #2 is called) for Smack. Johnson will probably be back, but can't see Acka getting back after just 1 week with a grade 1 hamstring, whatever Eade says.

I would lose more faith in him if this was the case. Like I said in another thread, he needs to make some bold changes, show the members and supporters that he is trying to be proactive, even if he isnt come game day.

If we are going to pesist with turning Walker into a back pocket specialist i think we need to bring in another tall to play forward this week. I have been amazed how often in the last two home games the only tall in the square when we are kicking from a set shot has been the oppositions ruckman. Time to put more pressure in the air on the oppositions backman/ruckman.

Whod have thought 18 months ago that losing Andy Otten would create such a problem for us. Without him we realy struggle to cover for Bocks absence.

Not having Otten and Bock has taken away all of our creativity.

This has been a huge factor in our demise this year.

Bock and Otten were the two that generated the most run out of the backlines last year.

Since we don't have Otten it's been bad enough but when Bock is missing as well, we suffer really badly from their absence.

First class observation, macca23. It turns our Otten was a HUGE loss, as is Bock as is Johncock and Stevens - a PROVEN great backline. We mostly haven't had them in the team at the same time this year.

We are a real makeshift side at the moment, at rock bottom with depth. None of the youngsters appear to be a class act apart from McKay and he's not a youngster any more. Walker is becoming a Luke lookalike with performance; ineffective an unable to do the hard things with a big body.

Maybe Davis can become something, he showed a game with not too many stuff ups and if he gets better we'll look better.

Gong. Completely wrong attitude matey. He need show us nothing.

He need get players up and going. He need do planning things pre-game. He need do recognition and move things game day. He need put things in place to maximize game day success.

I not give toss on you want him show things to you - you not play on field.

That's quite possibly the most confusing sentence ever.

You guys have got to be a chance.

Matty Boyd isn't playing now.. Midfield depth is being stretched now.

He looked liek a deer in the spotlight becauue a few times when he got the ball and looked up there was no one in our forward line. I was at the game and saw this plus watched the game on tv also and I can tell you that the tv does not show what is going on out there and where the players are standing. I dont blame him for this cause we should have had forwards in the forward line and not in the mid & defence.

Absolutely, totally 100% correct! :thumbsu:

Too right Craig doesn't need to show US anything.

Absolutely needs to get the players up and going.

Certainly needs to do his pre-game planning.

Even more certainly he needs to recognise whats happening on the field during the game and make appropriate moves.

In fact, everything and anything to give the team the best chance of success Friday evening.

And to be truthful, neither do I give a toss what some of you want Craig to show you, 'cos like frednerk33, I recognise that you won't be out there playing on Friday.
