One of the reasons for Buddy kicking 100+ goals in 2008 was Ladson. His kicking is brilliant and a huge strength to the side. The thing is he needs support which he is not getting. That and he is only just coming back from pretty much a year off the game. Can you really expect him to walk in and play like he did in 2008 straight away? As I said he is showing glimpses and every game showing them more and more.

The problem is however if he is dropper it would mean Muston would come in. Now if you are worried about Ladson turning the ball over then just you wait for Muston to come in and turn the ball over.

look i have never rated Ladson i thought that like Vanders he has had a couple of good games and that's where it stops.
I think he turns the ball over to much.

but that is just my opinion, just like a lot of people dislike Murphy where i dont. i think very highly of him.

he has had longer than Youngy to prepare and youngy while he may not of had the best game didnt turn the ball over and he looked far more comfortable.
i wouldnt mind Muston coming in, i like the kid.
like i said these are just my opinions.

agree with this, although hoping mitchell will be right, to come in with renouf and musto.
My outs are whitex, youngy and peterson - all based on finding a bit more of the footy at Box hill

My post last night called for 6 changes and I thought another 6 blokes were lucky to keep their spot. Probably shouldn't post when I am that pissed off.

I think everyone agrees that Mitchell and Renouf are certainties if they are fit. The question is are there any other guys knocking the door down for a spot.

The only player I think that may be in that category is Breust.

That means I need to find 3 players to drop.

The first one is easy.

Whitecross: I just don't see any upside with the guy yet. He has no outstanding attributes. He is a good depth player but thats about it.

Then it gets tougher. I would pick the following.

Ellis: This kid has so much talent (just look at the 2008 GF) but he just coasts through games and has little impact. He needs go back to Box Hill and lead the midfield for a week or two.

Peterson: This isn't really dropping him. He looks tired. I'd probably give him the week off footy all together and then give him the following week at Box Hill ready for return after that. Breusts form probably allows us to do this.

For balance they could consider Dowler or Lisle but I don't think either warrants a spot right now.

IN: Mitchell, Renouf, Breust
OUT: Peterson (Rest), Ellis (Omit), Whitecross (Omit)

Ladson will be a key member of the team as the year goes on. Be patient!!!

There's not a lot of love for Brendan Whitecross. Am I the only one who thought he went ok?

I think he looks a good kick, but im sick of him kicking it sideways and backwards. no wonder we cant move the ball down the field fluently.
If he in the side as a rebounding defender 11 touches isnt enough.

My change this week: ELLIS - not out of the team, but to a Half Forward Flank. Hear me out!

I watch ELLIS down back and it burns me that his disposal ruins our backline. Not singlehandedly, but it hurts. So I think to myself: If ELLIS is going to play & ruin someone's backline, why should it not be the opposition's backline he ruins??

ELLIS has plenty of confidence & composure - to date he is just making bad decisions & missing targets. In particular he has a tendency to squirt out quick handballs & 16m kicks.

His handballs: At the moment they catch others off guard. The receiver isn't expecting it, they receive it & then they have to look up & make a decision. Inevitebly the ball gets turned over & we lose a goal. However, if this scenario happened in our Forward 50m, the receiver is expecting the ball & knows exactly what to do with it. (Slam home a point...)

His kicks: Present - they travel through traffic & simply don't belong on the Half Backline. However, he has the ability to hit targets, in traffic, and quickly. If this was up forward he has the ability to win the ball in a pack & pick out a Forward, giving him a set shot on goal (no Roughie jokes).

At present, I just can't see how Ellis can be played back or in the middle & the selectors keep a straight face... If we are going to continue with him in the 1sts then let's get the two worst HFF of all time in YOUNG & BATEMAN onto the wings & get ELLIS up forward.

Dowler and Muston must be played for the rest of the year or be delisted. End of Story. If they break down again then at least we know its curtains for them both and we can move on.

Out Peterson Ellis Murphy and possibly Whitecross although I like this kid and think he can play.

Osborne, Bateman, Young are all keys to us getting a win somewhere so we must persist and hope they turn it on.

I think Essendon will run us off our legs at the G.

Obviously Mitchell and Renouf will be straight back in if fit, I would also like to see dowler, musto and Lisle come in.

Would love to see roughie play centre half back for a few weeks to strenghten the backline, dowler to play 2nd tall to support buddy. Lisle to play 2nd ruck and a bit forward swapping with dowler and franklin if he moves up the ground. It's only a matter of time that hodge or roughie get injured playing out of position in the ruck. 3rd man up isn't working!

Therefore I believe we need 5 outs which I think should be

Peterson - (needs a rest, has looked promising though)
Osbourne - (can't get a kick and ill discipline)
Whitecross - (Wasn't the worst, but needs to find fitness at box hill)
Murphy - (Lacks leg speed, turns the ball over to often)
Young - (Needs to find form and confidence at Box Hill)

Can't agree with that. Dowler presented ok and kicked two - delivery to him at times was ordinary. Muston and Breust were the pick of the Hawk players though.

Can Breust play or will we need to elevate him from rookie list for an injured player ? ... not sure how it works - in my books he is ahead of Peterson and Moss in terms of form right now.

I thought he played in both the back line forward line and kicked a few goals. Sounds okay by me. He'd be coming into the side as the third tall and not allow our side to look like a mosquito fleet when Roughead does some ruck work. Dowler took a bag of marks, kicked a number of goals and also did rucking against Essendon when Buddy was missing and Bailey went down in Round 22, last season.

Dowler was kept around for a reason and has been playing numerous positions. Time for him to repay the faith and stretch the Essendon backline.

Also, we need someone who can kick a goal, besides Buddy. Dowler is a pretty decent shot at goal unlike Roughie, Bateman, Ellis, Young, etc, etc...

You know I really hate it when people come up with flippant little comments like this. Not sure if you were at the last two games in 2009, but I thought he had a cracking finish to the season and nearly lifted us into the finals with some great play. 7 goals over two games, plus 11 tackles.

He can play.

Bateman, Ladson, Goo and Ellis were very ordinary but you can't just drop the lot. that is about 400 games experience and you cannot afford to rip that out of a side.

We need some stability (when was the last time we were unchanged?)

It's a bit rich. You just can't pull out quarter of the side and replace it.

I think the time is coming where big names will be axed on the selection table. Not sure who it will be, but some players are not delivering what they're capable of.
