Luke Bruest is on our Rookie list, can he play seniors this year?

Has to be elevated first. Cheeseman posted something on it the other day - search the excellent Box Hill board, perhaps?

INS
Sammy
Renuef

OUTS
LADSON( if he doesnt get dropped after that performance, than he is sleeping with someone in great power)
Peterson(sorry mate)

C.Peterson had a bad game against NM, so what, he wasnt the only 1.. id keep him for some forward pressure :) Stokes & Hooper are injured!

INS: Mitchell Renouf
Outs: Whitecross Shiels :D

In: Dowler, Muston, Renouf, Mitchell

Out: Osborne, Murphy, Bateman, Whitecross (for various reasons that i wont go into- all need a run in the magoos to find form, or simply get more match fitness)

Team:
FB: Guerra Gilham Ladson
HB: Stratton Shoey Birchall
C: Lewis Mitchell JKT
HF: Peterson Franklin Rioli
FF: Dowler Roughead Brown
Foll: Twister, Hodge, Sewell

IC: Muston, Young, Ellis, Shiels

Emerg: Savage, Duryea, Lisle

I know that I will get pasted for putting Roughie at FB, but I think Dowler can hold down FF. Its about team balance. His last 2 games in 2009 showed a lot of promise. Putting Dowler in and Essendon losing some height negates the need for Lisle but if we lose a tall, he should get his chance.

In: Dowler, Muston, Renouf, Mitchell (If fit)

Out: Ellis, Osborne, Murphy, Young (if Mitchell fit only because he needs to get confidence back AT BHH)

Team:
FB: Guerra Roughead Gilham
HB: Stratton Shoey Birchall
C: Lewis Mitchell Bateman
HF: Muston Franklin Rioli
FF: Peterson, Dowler Brown
Foll: Susie, Hodge, Sewell

IC: Ladson Whitecross, Shiels, JKT

Emerg Lisle, Breust, Ossie

I think Peterson needs a rest, has been great just needs to freshen up.
Dowler in for him.
Ellis out for the captain to find some form in the 2's.
Whitecross out for Renouf, little unlucky.

I find it odd that most of the posters would agree that our back line leaks like a sieve, yet so many keep selecting the same guys in the same positions week in, week out.

I guess one day it will all fall into place and the back six will keep a clean sheet.

I agree. Perhaps someone like Osborne needs to spend a week down back while Birchall/Ladson has a run across the half-forward line. Couldn't hurt to try it

Harsh to judge the back 6 when our midfield is proving no pressure or assistance. When we play well any cracks will become apparent.

Os (on Monfries)Gilly Schoe
Stratt Rough Brown
JKT Mitch Lewis
Rioli Frank Ellis
Peterson Dowler Chang (somethin diff!)

Renouf Sewell Hodge

INT:Gu Ladson Young Birchall

Emerg: Shiels(stiff) Muston, Murph

Os, Chang, Peterson, Ellis, Ladson, Young(to a lesser extent) to perform or BHill instead of Subiaco next round.

Time to mix it up.
Os can return to his unsociable back pocket to hassle little Angus.
Brown down back to marshal the troops.
Chang to do his gut busting running chasing defenders out of our fwd line.
Rough down back because he is big and cant kick straight up fwd.

look im not saying he was the onlyne who had a bad game, far from it. but as others have pointed out we cant drop every single one of those players.

i think he needs a rest gain some confidence back in the two's.
we have enough forward pressure with cyril and browny( because lets face it clarko refuses to move the best defender we have out of the forward line)

i wouldnt take out Sheils just in case mitch isnt right.

i hope these are what our INS and OUTS look like.

INS
Renouf
Sammy
Lisle/Dowler ( i want Lisle in for the ruck just to give Renouf a breather, and Dowler in because Roughy cant kick a goal to save his life atm)

OUTS
Ladson
Peterson
Whitcross
:D

In- Renouf, Mitchell, Muston, Hooper
Out- Murphy, Young, Sheils, Whitecross

Guerra, Gilham, Stratton

Wishful thinking re the 'ins' there Lethal, but I like what you have done.

While we are being wishful, I would get rid of Peterson for a week off & bring in Dowler for a run.

I would like to see us line up a little like this:

Guerra Gilham Brown
Hodge Schoe Ladson
JKT Mitch Musto
Lewis Buddy Bateman
Rioli Roughie Ossie

Renouf Sewell Sheils

Bench: Stratton Lisle Birchall Young

Ins: Lisle Musto Renouf Mitchell
Outs: Murphy (sorry mate) WhiteX, Peterson, Ellis

JKT and Musto instructed to run free to space and kick it long deep into F50 and over the zone from half back where possible.

Lisle to play in 5-7 minute bursts in the ruck, if overwhelmed to play deep in F50 when Roughie pushed into the ruck.

Defence looks more solid IMO with some aggression and good deision makers in Hodge, Brown and Ladson.

Lewis, Ossie, Rioli and Bateman are all capable of providing a stack of pressure inside the F50.

Aims: Increase number of long kicks, decrease handball to kick ratio. Win the tackle count. Win contested possession count.

Bateman, Ossie and Laddo warned they are playing for their spot this week.

Anyone who thinks our issues will be solved by positional changes is in for a rude shock in my opinion.

Spot on. I dont think it matters who they bring in, it wont help. Our game plan is pathetic. we have one of the best forward lines in the comp and we stuff around with it. Is becoming too frustrating to even watch anymore.

Living in the west I don't get to hear alot about players who aren't in the senior squad so I don't understand the obsession with Lisle. I am sure if he was ready he would be playing and while it may suit supporters to have him rucking for 5-7 minutes of each quarter what else would he bring to the game that JKT didn't on Saturday night.

While what happened Saturday night wasn't ideal, it isn't a weekly occurrence and while I also hate seeing Twister having to go at it for the entire game (burn out) and having 2nd and 3rd players up I would rather that than risk the career of another young ruckman who obviously isnt ready according to some who have seen him play and of course the club.

It seems we want a sacrificial lamb to suit a short term problem and tbh I don't think that's acceptable or fair to the player in question

I think he is hardly a sacrificial lamb and we saw the folly of having only 1 ruck last sunday (BTW renouf played in 08 at the same age including a GF).

I would also rather use lisle who has some experience (or perhaps even dowler) for 5 so minutes a qtr than risk hodge or roughy.

I do not understand why so many posters think Shiels will get dropped. Barring injury, I think he will play every game this year.

One of very few players we have that has some toe, can run a game out, gets his own ball, applies pressure off the ball and can deliver the football.

Agree with you to a certain degree. For example I wouldn't bring in a Grimley or Lowden as they are clearly too skinny and wont hold up. But from reports I have read he has been quite competitive in the ruck at Box Hill (while not dominating). Watching him play in the NAB cup I really enjoyed what I saw. He is aggressive at the contest which is why I prefer him over Dowler and if he could bring that aggression to the ruck contest I think he would at least make the opposition work for their advantage or maybe even break even in the contest causing the ball to drop to a 50/50 contest as opposed to hitting a Bomber player on the chest. The other thing he offers is a marking forward if Roughead goes into the ruck so it takes a little of the pressure off Buddy and co. He is a natuarl forward as opposed to a ruckman. From my point of view he offers us more flexibility. He will only be played in the ruck in short bursts minimising (although not eliminating) the risk to him. For what its worth Dowler could essentially play the same role but from what I have seen and read Lilse seems to be in better form.

You talk about him being a sacraficial lamb, I don't agree with this at all. I think he is being given a chance. A chance to step up and play a role for the Hawks. He doesn't have to dominate, all he has to do is make a contest for 5 mins a quarter. And how is playing him in that role any worse than playing Renouf there for 100 mins a game or playing Hodge there and wearing him out against much bigger opponents or playing Roughie there for periods putting his knees at further risk while teaking away 50% of our strength inside the F50? Ideally it would be great to give young Lisle more time to develop but sometimes circumstances don't allow it. You never know, it could just be the making of the kid.

Interesting reading and though there has been some over-reaction some valid points too. I too am wondering what happened to Bateman as I saw one mistake after another from a seriously talented player. He was having great difficulty doing bread and butter things. I have no doubt that it was repeated fumbling by our players that cost us rather than North's great play.

I also agree with some that Osborne is a shadow of the player he was in 2008 and is so ill disciplined he needs to be given a rest at BH. Young also shadow but not as ill disciplined

Ellis should stay, he is still creative as is Ladson but Peterson who will be a very good player for us needs a rest.

Out: Osborne, Peterson,Young and Bateman
In Mitch (hopefully), Renouf, Breust, Dowler (?Muston-could use his pace)

Re-loading here.

You know I really hate it when people come up with flippant little comments like this. Not sure if you were at the last two games in 2009, but I thought he had a cracking finish to the season and nearly lifted us into the finals with some great play. 7 goals over two games, plus 11 tackles.

He can play.

I agree. But do you keep wondering why he isn't?

Surely its time to play him, or flick him. Running around at BH can't be all that useful. I'm afraid if he isn't fit/confident enough now, he may never be.

Hope I'm wrong though......

Remember that he had bone bruising to his ankle (richmond nab cup game) and has only gotten back to BH in the last two games. I would be looking for him in the side in the next few games as he gains match fitness. This year we seem to be bringing most players back through BH after injury- young, burgoyne, dowler etc... i would say there would be few exceptions to this rule- like Mitchell, or rioli etc and even then its dependent on the extent, type of injury, and particular rehab required.

What he said !!!

Very far from our worst, & possesses skills we need at the moment. Played on one of the best in the business on the weekend & was good I thought.
