Changes for next week

That is the worst performance since last's years drawn grand final and we kicked the same total again last night.

Just need to chill out and know that we are due of a ripper!

IN: Wood
OUT: Jolly

Reid, Maxy & BJ will all pull up sweet and ready to go! :thumbsu:

Wood has shown this year that he is capable against quality rucks and can push forward and kick goals as well.

Re: Changed for next week

You must be joking.

Agree. O'Brien to be dropped?

OP have posted a signed photo of himself smoking a crack pipe, timestamped to when the post was made, certified by 3 Justices of the Peace, the entire panel of High Court judges, the Governor-General, and the Pope; it still wouldn't be as convincing evidence of drug use as claiming that O'Brien will be dropped for the Grand Final.

It's Leigh Brown's last game. Why drop him in a GF? He will put everything in and make a good contribution. He may even need to play down back on a third tall if desperate. Plus if we need a shake up, he can always take on the "Alistair Lynch" model and go out swinging!

I still think Goldsack should play. I'm hoping not for Reid, but someone else has to give way. Still unsure on who though

How do people feel about:

OUT: Didak or Beams
IN: Goldsack (as a sub)

That way we can play Goldy as the sub and if we do need him for Reid if he can't play the game out then at least we are not caught in defense without a replacement. Goldy can easily replace a Beams or Didak later in the game if Reid holds up. It's just an idea, dunno if I'd even roll with it, but in that case:

IN: Goldsack, Wood, possibly Fasolo
OUT: Beams/Didak, Jolly

I'd almost consider dropping both.

Assuming everyone pulls up OK, I think:-

In: Fasolo
Out: Beams

If Reid misses, Goldy in. If Jolly misses, Wood in.

Not looking good for next week IMO

Agree with this.

On Reid the fact that he was able to play on makes me doubt he will miss the Grand Final. If anything he seemed to move better as the game went on. If Daics is right and he pulled up sore I am sure that's to be expected. At worst jab him up and get him out there too important a player to be missing a grand final if he is able to play.

Jolly looked more worrying we will have to see how that goes.

Beams has been notoriously poor in Finals. My feeling is that he gets less time up the ground and struggles to get involved in the game. With that said I think Dids into the side. Fasolo the sub and Beams out.

What's with Beams and finals? Needs to go.

Dayne Beams vs West coast:

21 disposals (11 contested), 6 tackles (2nd only to sidebottom), recieved 2 free kicks, 3 1%'ers and a goal assist.
He was a crap shot for goal that game - that is probably all he did wrong.

Mick said himself that Beams just had a bad night. Dont expect him to be getting 25+ disposals with pendlebury, swan, thomas, welligham, sidey, Shaw, Johnson, Blair, and others all in the team playing midfield. He'll be more on the HFF and will do his bit in the grandfinal.

Fasolo would be the perfect sub though, i will agree... and at the end of the day if beams makes way, fine. I just don't think it will happen. I think a lot of blokes were very rusty. Remember - last time we won coming off a bye it was by less than a goal against sydney... and what happened the next week after that? We belted Hwks by 50 point and then Kanga's by 117. we had 13 blokes get under 15 disposals against sydney. The next week we had 7. And 3 of those were Fasolo, Luke Rounds and Chris Dawes (who was injured).

Beams HAS NOT had 2 quiet games in a row since the start of the year. he's been averaging about 28 disposals a game recently. Against the cats in round 24 he had 29 possessions. So I say he'll be in.
The people in the side who DO have more than a few quiet games in a row OFTEN are dids and krak.

He can't be suspended for next season so he could make head high contact with every geelong player and he'd be hailed as a hero by.... me.

as for goldy playing, i think this would be a decent idea if we're taking beams out (which, as stated in my last post - i don't think it'll happen). Goldy is a good option because he played a run with role on embley and kept him to bugger all influence in that game. His hands were also surprisingly quick and accurate during his time in the midfield. I was quite proud.
He also spend some time in the forward line and contested really, really well. He didn't grab a mark, but no one out-marked him. He used his body and was really good. Brought the ball to ground which created danger with Krak zipping around.
Then, he also plays HBF and could swith maxi into CHB if reid is not right.

If the sub rule was in effect last year goldy woul;d prob have been sub then too.

another option for an in is MacCaffer.....

Ok this might sounds crazy but here goes...I love darren jolly, but i think if wood plays and we do play geelong it could be an advantage to us.He played pretty well in the first game we played against geelong in this year..Beams did nothing.I like the bloke but you cant expect to do nothing and then get a spot. Didak lifted the team guys. He needs to play next week.Very important player, even just his presence. As soon as beams went off and dids came on we lifted.

I hope jolls is ok obviously but even if he's not,we should be ok. Reidy will play, maxy will definitely play..Maxy is a fantastic captain, showed his best leadership and i hope it continues into next week.

Sidey and blairy need to stay in,both been average but last night they stood up and showed why they are good in finals. Sidey loves big games.

All in all though we need to play our best for 4 quarters next week or we aren't a chance in hell. But i know we can do it,i have the belief.Come on boys one more for malty. What a special man :):thumbsu::thumbsu:

Think Dayne is a deer in the headlights at the momment, really looks lost in fast an tough contests. Thought Steele did at times last night too, that was one quick game. The worry with Beams is his finals record is average. Fasolo give a great contest and give that X factor. Would be surprised if Fasolo doesn't come in for Beams..

Wood for Jolly if injured or after Browns performance over the last month, Wood may play anyway especially as Geelong and WCE play 2 ruckman. So maybe Wood & Jolly (drop Brown)

Reid is in real trouble. With Cats & WCE height, they may even play Keefe. Personally, big fan of the Sack and think he is the best side just not sure where...

Disagree with your feelings about sidey. I think sidey is one bloke who never gives up. He has almost as many pressure acts as daisy in most games. And yes, they do count.

However, what I'm worried about in bringing in fasolo... We're saying that beams was like a deer in headlights in the fast, high pressure game.. and yet he was good in the high pressure west coast game the other week. If beams gets dropped its basically saying that 'we're going to hope that a 12 gamer can play better in finals than a 50 gamer'. Definitely not saying that fasolo WON'T play good, i'm just saying that it is a massive call to make...
Fasolo's last game was rd 24 where he had 12 disposals and 1 goal after the game was done and dusted with about 3 minutes to go. He also had at least one goal kicked on him.

The advantage that beams has over fasolo is that beams can play almost any position (like daisy)... Fas is a majority fwd for us at the moment. Can play mid, yes, but he played a bit of mid against geelong in rd 24 and it didn't go well.

I think i'm going to back beams to lift in the GF.... and i really hope he does... trust me, i'd be the first to say I backed the wrong horse if he doesnt perform adequately. I think he needs to have about 20 possessions with half of those being good contested ball and a couple of score assists for him to thank the selectors for picking him next week.

Agree with MM that your blokes were off last night. It appeared that you lacked a bit of pace at times. Fasola has to play, Beams is the obvious one to go. Reid is doubtful as is Jolly. I heard a whisper that Maxwell has cracked ribs as well. Mick will pick blokes according to the structure and your opponents. If it's the Cats I expect like for like, but might be different if it's the coasters - they could be a handful on a dry day.

Brown is a massive liability, cannot afford him in next week - offers nothing but a weak presence in the ruck, would much rather Wood even though he also lacks around the ground as well but is certainly improving on that.

I think the Pies have to make the hard call on Dids as well, should bring in Fasolo - but only as a sub as he'd struggle the entire four quarters. Fasolo actually has the x factor we badly need up forward, something that Didak hasn't had for the entire year.

Personally think Goldsack should be in the team but not sure he'd fit in anywhere - certainly deserves a spot after a stellar season though. Tough call.

Beams had a shocker as did Kraks, but they should stay.

I think there needs to be a change with the bottom couple though, there is no room for passengers against Geelong.

My thoughts exactly.

The big question is who is the SUB in the big one?
Possibly Beams or Blair?

Goldsack is the sub IMO.

If Ben Reid plays, like I'm expecting him too, Goldsack comes into massive consideration, as much as a security blanket as anything else.

But he can also play back, forward or as a defensive mid, while Beams is really only a half forward flanker now.

Beams for Goldy would be the only change I make if Reid and Jolly come up.

You can't have 2 possessions in 3 quarters and keep your spot, it's not good enough, especially when both of those possessions were in the first quarter.

There is no way you would play fasolo. Insane. He isnt ready for it no matter how badly beams played. Beams has a good record against the cats.

I personally think we need to run geelong off their legs. Goldsack for reid is not such a bad thing for this very reason

In: Wood, Goldsack
Out: Jolly, Brown

Jolly looks clearly too injured to play. Wood the obvious replacement and the games we pumped into him this year to pay off here.

Brown hasn't been up to it for weeks. Its obvious why he chose to retire.
It's obviously a big risk to play Wood as a one out ruckman, but again its something we have tried before and got away with.

Goldsack comes in for insurance for Reid, and just because hes a frantic player for pressure games.

Beams probably goes to sub.

Mick & Bally were on SEN declaring Jolly & Reid pulled up well & are in no doubt. Don't know whether they are truthful or not.

Unless we have a Presti scenario where either playr declares themselves a non starter, they'll play.

Reid played the GF replay with a broken leg/fracture last year and Didak had the pectoral injury. Jolly is a workhorse, he will give us everything.

We have shown we have players that can just dig dip for one last final effort before the season is over.

Didak 4 possessions 2 tackles in a quarter, Beams 2 handballs in 3 quarters.

If Reid and Jolly OK then simply swap Didak in to starting line up and either Beams or Fasolo sub.

If a player has to come in for a match-up or role it has to be Goldy. Why?:

1) Back-up backman for the Geelong talls especially if Reid and Maxy are battling with injury.

2) Can play as a defensive forward on Scarlett, Mackie, Enright to help stop run.

3) Should not be the sub for both of these reasons.

Don't think Fasolo is the one to come in and I'm not sure if Beams or Dids should be dropped. Beams offers a hard body. Dids should play closer to goal because he will kick them when the ball lands in his hands.
