Not that good? Went back to shield and averaged 56 last year. Then hit an 80 odd for Australia in NZ

Not in form at present, no doubt, but he's a very good batsmen.

Couldnt score a century untill he came up against the worst attack ever seen at first class level then finds himself back in the Australian team a couple of weeks later where he failed

Hard to know if confidence improves by 2nd half or grounds get faster and better for batting...Wont make a run in Perth

Anyone who reckons Hauritz would've done much better than Doherty in the last two tests has to be kidding themselves. Doherty might not be Test standard, but nor was Hauritz, can't get why people have forgotten that so quickly. Neither should play in Perth. I'd go:

Perth is the perfect place to go attacking and play four pacemen - five if you count Watson, who is probably our best paceman anyway. I'm not a huge fan of Siddle, but Johnson needs to sit in the corner and think about what he's done for far more than just one Test. Smith is a batting all-rounder, and if he doesn't get much of a bowl, so be it, pick him on his batting, he's a player for the future and is already a better bat than North.

Absurdly long tail, but if we're going to win two tests then we're going to need more than just Hussey in the top order to bat properly anyway.

Happy with that 11.Perth is nowhere near the pace friendly wicket it was 15 years ago but none of our spinners are wicket takers, so we may as well boot North for a batting all round spinner and go for wickets with pace.Three draws won't do it, and we are paying the price for going down last series when we had opportunities not to.

Those numbers for Warne come after his big 1993 Ashes series, where he took 34 wickets at an average of 25.79, and was subsequently the talk of the town. Yet Hauritz, who has never had a breakout series of Warne-in-England magnitude, does not suffer greatly in comparison (less economical, but has a better strike rate, and almost as many wickets).

I'm not saying that Hauritz will ever develop into a Warne-esque attacking spinner, especially at his current age (29 years, 50 days), but to say he's not Test standard (a la Xavier Doherty) is severely underrating his contribution IMO.

I can't believe anyone is even suggesting SHaun Marsh to get a baggygreen. Khawaja is way ahead of him IMO. Marsh has talent but is in the same boat as Ferguson, they need a big year in shield cricket to prove there worth.

Team 1 - if they go the four quicks then North holds his place as they'll need him to bowl. I can also see the selectors not wantng to make too many changes... I do however think they'll play Bollinger ahead of Johnson.

Team 2 - if they go that side (specailist bat at 6) then they'll need to play a spinner. I think they'll go Hauritz but that is a backward step, surely need to try someone different... O'Keefe a very outside chance. Still may go 4 quicks but over rates will be a big problem...

Its a fair side - If Siddle goes and Doherty surely will, crazy though that the entire bowling line-up from the 1st Test would have all been dropped after just 2 Tests. If you throw in North, Watson is the only constant.

Marsh over Hughes. I understand that Hughes has a more proven FC record etc. But boy oh boy his technical issues, slashing without footwork and not moving to the pitch of the ball outside off are still issues he hasn't fixed. England should find it relatively easy to trouble him as they've done in the past.
Marsh in great form, averaging 85 this season in FC cricket. Will surprise the English and give the form player a go. Been a solid ODI option and I have confidence that this option is better than Hughes as Marsh is more technically sound and more importantly in better form. Hughes averages 28.

White comes in, for obvious reasons. North can't play another test.
Hauritz, this is the option I'm not sure on. Do we play 4 quicks or give Ritz another crack. I don't have much confidence in him admitedly, do we play a spinner if we don't posess one of world class standard?

Horrorwitz was a mere fill in spinner anyway and trying a younger bloke out like X then sending him away to work on his game is better than persisiting with someone who isn't going to be around for the next ashes series.
