I can't believe anyone is even suggesting SHaun Marsh to get a baggygreen. Khawaja is way ahead of him IMO. Marsh has talent but is in the same boat as Ferguson, they need a big year in shield cricket to prove there worth.

Marsh in great form, averaging 85 this season in FC cricket.

Er, exactly how big does his year have to be before he has proved his worth?

Marsh won't get a look in

But he should. Is in smashing form, and on the home ground.

I would feel much more comfortable with Marsh in than Hughes right now

Hughes has a future, but another year in shield cricket ironing those bugs out will do him and us the world of good for the future

Khawaja is not in good form. Right now, form is what is needed. IMO

Katich -> Marsh
North -> Smith
Doherty -> O'Keefe

If you want to change pacemen, bring in Copeland.

Simple, like-for-like, doesn't change things up too much, brings in form players and those who have performed well against England this tour.

Personally I'd do other stuff like move Watson down the order and have Mike Hussey open, maybe bring in David Hussey to strengthen the middle order, but I can't see that happening.

he's played what, two, three games? By all means see how he goes in the next game, but two-three games isnt much to judge on.

Not to mention that his form seems to have coincided with moving down the order.

Khawaja has made 36 off 106 Is he trying to say that he can last triple the time North can?

Wow at NSW's bowling attack, Smith in at 4 and Hauritz in at 5

Yep, I'm certainly torn between Hughes and Marsh for the opening spot. Hughes has no form at this stage, who's more of a risk?

Hughes could be a 12-15 year player and was pretty unfortunate to be dropped when he was. I would like him to be choen if he's actually going to be backed, like he should've been 18 months ago.

I wouldnt be adverse to Marsh coming in for North tbh, but I dont think he's a great opening batsmen as his record has shown, and im not sold on him being a test player. Doherty and North are both showing that there is a reason players have average first class records over a large period of time, they usually arent good enough.

Hughes was dropped because he has serious technical problems which still have not been fixed, he average of 25 from 8 innings this summer isn't worth a recall. When he gets the standard NSW call up he will fail again and get dropped again, wasting more time and costing us more losses.

Hughes won't get a call up because he's from NSW, he'll get called up because he's one of the few young and reasonably talented openers we have in Shield cricket.

I still think it's the wrong decision but it's not about state bias.

i think White has to come in..... He is as good as anyone and has performed at shield levels over the years. he should be included now as Ponting will retire in the forseeable future and i just dont think Clarke makes a good captain.

Yes, it was NSW bias that saw him averaging over 50 in first class cricket at the age of 20. It's NSW bias that sees him average 54 after 39 first class games. It's all a big NSW conspiracy that a 22 year old whose records shits on other potential opening batsmen candidates might get chosen for the test team again.

won't come in to be captain....

want it all you want, but it won't happen.

For those who are suggesting we groom Cameron White as the next captain, he is not a test player, and although he may find himself in the team at some stage, he is very much a 20-20/ODI player.

no but ponting is not going to retire now is he? he might have a year or two to go, and have white in the team now for the transition in two years from now.

could work.

my tip is that punter will resign the captaincy after this series and hang about for a few years mentoring clarke, then retire when there is another captaincy option coming through.

I don't think white will captain australia as an interim captain, but it probably isn't the worst idea going around.

Nah, I think Ponting when he finishes captaining the side, and IMO is ready to retire. Diminishing returns and a long decline over the past 4 years. He's been brilliant but after 150 tests I suspect he's nearly done.
