We're well over the odds. Gold Coast are $1.64 favourites, we're $2.25.
I think some savy lions supporters could make some money this season. Geelong were 1.30 for the win (I thought that was surprisingly high for a team that played in the PF last year. Tells me the sports betting companies are a bit unsure of where we sit. I'd have it even money for this weeks game imo. I'm pretty confident of getting the win actually.

*IMO he was the worst performer.I would expect nothing less from a captain with on field instructions but as a mature player in a young side he just didn't stand up. He reminds me of Nick Maxwell. As i said you cant drop your captain
Jed was alright. Not anywhere near our best performer, but it's easier to see his contribution live than through the telecast. Can very easily see how it could come across as a poor performance though.

BrownDog posted an example of what I mean:

Leuey got caught in a tricky situation on the wing during the match and Jed ran about 75 metres in 5 seconds flat from the backline to bail him out.

Not sure if anyone else noticed that but it was a pretty good captain moment. Let's not ride Jed for not being flashy and full of X-Factor. He'll prove his worth over the year.

There has been concern recently that he's been below his best since taking on the co- and then solo captaincy.

I think the Lions may get up over the Suns. At the beginning of the year I'd would have the Suns but watching how our defensive side has developed and add to that the Suns still poor forward line (although improving fast) we could keep them under 10 goals. Sam Day is becoming a monster for them so too Lynch but he is more a roaming forward and they have Dixon who hasn't had a great start to the year.

The thing that we will have to watch out for is the ball going over the back of our defenders... if that happens we won't catch them at all and they will win the game. Luey has been crap this year and will have a chance against Nicholls but would have to push the young Sun around. Nicholls is scary good for clearances and tackles for such a skinny young ruck but struggles a bit for boundary throw ins when he is pushed out easily.

Some of the Sun's supporters think that Bennel still has a calf complaint and won't play. Brennan is retired as well, he always gets up for the game against us. Getting excited for this one.

Hoping Bennell misses this week. Love the way he goes about it, but he has been bloody good the last 3 times we played the Suns. We just couldn't stop him.

Why is everyone so dam sensitive when it comes to opposition supporters coming and posting on our boards. My god if it isn't positive everyone gets so dam but hurt over it. He has an opinion, he is allowed to express it. Even some positive comments get smashed by some of the members on this board. Everyone chill out this guy is entitled to voice his opinion, no need to tell him to piss off. For a group of grown men you act like children sometimes.

I agree that people have the right to post their opinions on our board, whether we like them or not.

But if certain people on this board don't agree with the opinion they also have the right to disagree....vehemently if they feel like it.

Especially when the "opinion" contains a stupid troll-like ..."was he even playing?" jibe.

I've read the responses to the post by TimV! and nowhere have I seen anyone telling him to "piss off". Nor do I think any of us "grown men" have acted like children. What I have seen is a fairly measured response and even an acknowledgement that Adcock was far from brilliant.

Defending our Club captain on our Board is not acting like children in my view.

Not just our board but everywhere. Take a look at the Ladder predictions 2014 thread. Every second post is a lions supporter demanding a reason why someone has put us bottom four and getting all upset over it. I just feel like everyone takes what other people say about the club way to personally. It is super rare that a Lions supporter and a opposition supporter can have a rational conversation anywhere on this site. At the end of the day it is only footy, I love the lions as much as the next guy but the but hurt levels on this board are way too high. It makes us look bad as supporters I reckon. Compare this sight to r/AFL. Somehow on a less structured less moderated sight people are able to have rational discussions and express their opinions whether negative or positive without people getting super worked up over it. People throw shit on each other all the time on that site yet I rarely see anyone take it to heart. I think big footy is generally a better sight but geeze if we could take a leaf out of their book we would look a lot more civilized.

If you look reaaaaaally closely, it's actually only 1 or 2 Lions posters, kind of ruining it for the rest of us.

Much like how we hopefully don't judge an entire supporter base based on their shittiest posters, I would hate to be judged based on our board's most moronic posters.

I would say more like 3 or 4 but I have pretty much seen over half the posters around here take things way too personally and I find it almost embarrassing for the most part. I just think everyone needs to take a step back an chill out, its footy. Ain't life or death

Looking forward to this one definitely. I hope it builds into a big rivalry and has that mini final like intensity, and we get around a 20k crowd.

Rockliff v Ablett is an exciting matchup, both goal kicking ball winning mids. Swallow is also playing to his number 1 pick potential, and is arguably our best performer from the first 2 rounds. Kolodjashnij was pretty solid on debut as well! Hopefully keeps his spot on the half back with McKenzie on the other half back 2 big left footers that can kick over a zone well.

Forecast of 30 degrees and possible rain. Hoping for no rain

OUT = Close, IN = Rocky. We went into the Geelong game with one too many talls at least (one more than the previous week even despite the conditions) and Close hasn't done enough to keep his spot. I would play Bewick and Brown at HF and have Mayes mostly play at full forward.

OUT = West? (or Bewick or Golby), IN = Raines. I don't expect Leppa to drop West but I would. We need more run and can't afford to play two ruckmen. I would keep Lisle in the side to play down back against one of the tall Gold Coast forwards and as a chop out in the ruck.

I read in the player description on the Lions site that Close can do some ruck work. Couuldnt be any worse than Lisle, l would probably keep Close to see what he can do against lesser opposition.
Out: Lisle, West
In: Rocky, Harwood

Nah, much more important than that.

It will be very interesting to see what we do with Rocky this week. Do we put him head to head with someone again? Can't afford to worry about Ablett too much now, if you focus on him too much, the others can and will rip you up. Same time, we can't let him run free.

Was thinking about this recently, I think the "tagger" role is almost dead. With the sub role, and now this year the reduced interchange. I think it will go back to the days when its the best player vs the best player. The matchups everyone actually wants to see!

Yep, worked well for Rocky v Mitchell (although with a bad aftertaste), so I would love to see Rock v Gaz. What a sight it would be.

I don't think Leppa wants to play a tagger. We have a decent tagger, who can do a good job in Raines, and we've left him out to go more head to head to opposition mids, backing ourselves to win our fair share of the ball. Will be interesting to see if Raines comes in, as he has had decent form in the 2nds, or if Leppa continues to ignore playing a dedicated tagger, and just throw someone head to head.

I don't mind it as a way to go. If you can win the ball first, then you don't need to worry about tagging the opposition player. Ablett will always get his 30+ touches, i just want him to have 1 sec or less before getting tackled for each and every one of them. Simply too damaging if he gets time to work his magic.
