Agree, our depth was what really suffered with the five that left for home.

I think that we are maybe a couple of years and 2 or 3 smart acquisitions away from consistently challenging and beating the top teams. I think that people forget that we haven't been an aging team for a couple of years now, and are in fact among the youngest, yet still compete well against the experienced and finals-hardened teams.
Yep
When Rocky, Zorko, Mayes, Aish, Lewy, Rich etc etc are all 26-27 you'll see a formidable engine room
I know I've missed players here but you get the drift.
Our forward line is the interesting piece to the puzzle.
Can see McStay and Gardiner being major contributors down back with Close and Freeman most likely 2 years away from impacting at a dominating force up forward. To me that's why 3-4 years is about right, not to mention Archie ( reckon he may be ok!!)
Ps my opinion is that my boy is around mid season ready to step up.
Probably play 6-7 games first year
He's getting better and better each hit out
Got his GPS figures yesterday from Leppa in the team meeting , covered 13.9klms with 6.5klms at 24klms per hour!!
Not bad!
His body's good and injury free so that's good.

Yeah I reckon we're not too bad at all, can't afford too many injuries though, most would agree here??
But core is really good and talented, reckon 3-4 years away from real top 2 contenders?
Thoughts??

I see our team on par with Adelaide but with better youngsters. Both Adelaide and Lions have horrible forward lines and will struggle to score. Although adelaide will get Tex back soon. In general play we can look really good only to fall to pieces in the last 3rd. We really need to find some forward talent fast!

Terrible thing is that when our premiership window opens so will GWS and Gold Coast. I don't think we are going to be able to compete against them. They will dominate the competition. But I reckon this year we could end up around the bottom of the 8 and just scrape into finals. THat I will be happy with

If your right,then not bad.
Reckon the trading comments Leppa has made will come to the table over the next couple of drafts to try to sort out our forward set up, add to it.
McGuane looks ok but worries me a little that he came to us with a pre existing knee issue?

He's still only young though. Their knees are still made of rubber before the age of 30.

Right guys?

Right?

I think we are going to be trading some KPD for forwards it looks like we got a stack of them now. Burke looks set to replace patfull and then I am assuming for merret Gardiner. Means we still have Mcstay and Cutler. Can see one of the defenders we drafted this year being traded in the next 4 years or so.

Bewick out Robbo in.He is fast and tackles hard thats what you need with the suns

Hope players don't read this forum!
Lol
You could be right
I reckon those two , McStay and Cutler are ok though.
Not sure if we'd trade any if the latest crop but depends on how they go over the next two seasons. If contracts are not extended then there would be no need to trade them as they'd simply be de listed.
As I said I reckon the new crop is pretty good though.

Little-bit on the fence in relation to Bewick, but browny points for his attitude, pace
& "almost" mark of the year, gotta keep for Metracon.

Very early Ins:
(gut feeling is Leppa will not make many changes)

Harwood
Paine
rookie Burke (loved his preseason) may become available if Weardon declared long-term?

Cutler's not really a KPD as well. Reports were that he was playing off a wing in the preseason, and is being groomed more as a midfielder.

Not all draftees come through, so we're betting on three out of six of Clarke, Bourke, Gardiner, McStay, Lisle and Michael come through (the last two being a bit more flexible). It's a bit better than pinning all your hopes on only one or two draftees or retreads like some teams.
