Just watched a replay of round 17. A few thoughts/comparisons:

- Gaff is obviously a big out but despite 30 touches this game, he wasnt in our best
- Nic Nat the other big out but he only played 1.5 quarters
- Interested to see if they drop one of Schofield/Barrass (didnt play round 17) - we'll also have Ryan instead of Waterman
- Pies will be weaker down back without Scharenberg and Moore
- Pies will get Cox back - interesting to see how this changes things up
- Duggan and Venables - our more 'fringe' players both played well (lots of posters seem to be arguing for Duggan out)
- Lycett and Hutchings did really well against two of their best in Grundy and Sidebottom
- This will obviously be at Optus

One other thing to note about the last game is Sier didn't play the second half and Langdon was off for most of the third quarter, both with little injuries.

Hutchings was brilliant against Sidebottom and Lycett did really well solo against Grundy.

And WHE was horrible as it looked like he wasn't over the injury from the previous week.

So what are the keys for us to win the game? And the key match-ups?

Pies
  • Strengths
    • midfield generally
    • Grundy
    • small/medium forwards
  • Weaknesses
    • tall defenders (especially if Moore is out)
    • reliance on Cox and Mihocek (who can be decent)
    • some medium defenders aren't that great
Eagles
  • Strengths
    • defence generally
    • Gov et al intercept marking
    • tall forwards
  • Weaknesses
    • Gawn showed that we can be exposed in the ruck
    • midfield depth

Watching the news the reports said Moore is racing to get fit.Paper says Treloar unlikely to play due to his injury but looking at snippets of him moving at training he was moving and kicking very smoothly.Goldsack being talked up.To be honest how many players can you bring in off a long break? Finals pressure can break people.I think Barass must play as he is a good match up for Cox in the air.Sounds kinda kinky really!
So Barass to harass Cox?

We need a quick start and a goal or at least goal assist in the first few minutes to JK would be just the tonic.
With Ryan/Rioli most teams are happy to have one player like this to keep defenders on edge, two of them.........
R&R J&J that has to keep defenders awake at night if they are all in the same team.

Umm, I'm ok if Pendlebury doesn't play..?

Just re-watched the Tigers game and wow, has to be best game of the season,
Eagles switched on from go to whoa, quick start, slick ball movement, fast running,
clean disposal and Jack clunking marks all day...need to bring all of that!!
Long range forecast - fine, sunny, 17c, light winds.

Big Jo Ken (josh kennedy for those not in know) looked like he was moving well on the west coast instagram story today
I went to the Eagles "finals lunch" today and they had shuey and JK stand up and get interviewed in front of the crowd. JK said in front of everyone that he'd done his physical testing today and was declared fit and is a certain starter. Lock him in

They also did a panel show and one of the journos on the panel was dead set certain that pendlebury had meningitis and it was serious given he missed the game against freo with it. Was convinced he wouldn't play.

He played against Freo

So Channel 10 showed footage of JK confirming he is right to go and that he passed his tests. Brilliant and OAllen unlucky but hey.

Jetta is likely to come in as a fit to pick up Stephenson. Who drops out - one of Barrass or Schofield or a smaller defender or mid? For me it is Sheed. Not based on the Brisbane game - more that I think his value generally is low.

Defensively Schofield to de Goey, Barrass to Cox, McGovern to Mihocek and Jetta to Stephenson. Sheppard could also go De Goey of Stephenson.

Pies are a good match up for us. Grundy has been great in 2018 but Lycett competes well against him as he is not monstered a la Gawn.

De Goey and Sidebottom are the 2 that we will need to watch. We need to avoid the poor start we had to the round 17 clash. Hutch to Sidebottom makes sense.

Like the fact that they will struggle with our forwards as there are some serious match ups that will worry them.

People worried about too many Pies coming back from injury only need to go back to the Doggies first week on finals in 2017.

Tactically - wondering what Pies will do with maybe playing a faster player on Gov like Port did.

It will be a long week to have to wait out.
