Changes for R16 v Norf

North at $7 odds is tempting. I had (relative) trust in our 2020 side to perform up to the standard more often than not. We've just reverted back to our 2019 side though. The side that Norf walloped by 86 points.

We'll probably still win, if only because North are garbage. But I'm not as confident as I was half an hour ago.

I’m confused you think this based on the changes we’ve made.

Don't mind the changes I got the outs right but had woodcock over Farrell but happy for Farrell to get another shot.

What's the go with Georgi's hammy?? Is it ok? worse than a slight strain 7 days ago? Or is this typical conservative Ken at selection?

The 3 outs are correct. The 3 ins aren't. Back to the same empty well with Motlop. Farrell is a meh and Houston is correct.

Dixon has to ruck for anything inside the forward 50 arc. Lycett regularly gets 80-85% TOG, so that means he gets 2-3 minutes of the 16 minutes per quarter on the bench. Marshall and Ollie or someone else can ruck during that time or if we are dominating with repeat inside 50's, then Lycett can rest then. Lycett and Dixon have to take the centre bounces.

If Lycett gets injured early, we are ****ed, Dixon has to ruck and its upto Todd and his 5 dwarves up forward.

The ins are also about getting miles into the overall squad we want ready for finals as much as for this particular match. Clearly the coaches do not think Hayes is ready for AFL and with North being a shambles that only plays one ruck are taking the risk of less back up ruck options for one week. Not ideal but calculated.

That was 4 years ago. Dixon hasn't rucked all season. Marshall has gone into the ruck when Lycett has been the only recognised ruck and Westhoff has been out.

He's done it a fair bit this season. I don't mind it because it gets him more involved in the game and he really struggled in that aspect last week.

Hoping that Ladhams comes back next week as a 3rd tall forward because I much prefer that setup.
So when Marshall is ruck our tall forwards will be Dixon and....

We have all seen this movie before.

North flood back, monster Dixon three on one, we get a millionnl inside 50s and can't score.

really hoped Hayes would get a start tomorrow. id much prefer him in to Farrell. but then i was always hoping Frampton would get a game too. Look how well hes going elsewhere!!

At least Buckley isn't scared to give young gangly inexperienced talls a go.

He dropped Darcy Cameron, still has Grundy and Cox in the side and has picked Max Lynch to debut - a 200cm ruck picked in the December 2016 Rookie draft #51.

Will we ever see Westhoff again? I think not. We lose a lot of marking ability dropping Ebert and Hoff which could bite us on the arse.

Suddenly very nervous about this match, last year haunts me.

Is Buckley the right person to be praising in this scenario? Collingwood might be blooding Lynch as a 2nd ruck/KPF, but they are still only playing 2 KPF counting him and Cox (i don't consider Mihocek a KPF he's only 192cm).

Further to that, are you implying hinkley is scared? Pretty certain Georgiades is still injured (any hamstring regardless if it's even the slightest of niggles is usually 2-3 weeks), & the coaches are well documented in their opinion that Hayes is not close to playing AFL yet.

Whilst I agree that a 3 KPF forward line is our best option, I'm not sure we should be going to the wolves on this, at least not yet. If they don't bring Ladhams back next week though and persist with a 2 KPF forward structure, then all bets are off.

Why are we playing Motlop?? We know he goes missing when the pressure is on. He pulls his finger out 1 or 2 games out of every 10. Here is his Best and Fairest voting figures.

2018 we were 11-4 then capitulated he was dropped for Rd 18. Max votes per game 25 he got 10 x 0 vote games
Red is when Port lost. In 2018 he played 21 of 22 games and polled the following;

13,10,5,0,0,6,0,6,0, Bye,0,0,8,7,0,16,0,SANFL,5,1,0,8,0 = 85 out of 525

In 2019 he polled the following. Max votes per game was 20. Scored 7 x 0 vote games and dropped for 8 games.

6,10,0,0,SANFL,SANFL,SANFL,0,1,0,4,Bye,0,4,3,6,0,0, SANFL,SANFL,SANFL,SANFL,SANFL, = 34 out of 360

His 2020 results would be a bit better than 2019 but not much.

He delivers nothing nearly every game we lose, so why pick a marginal player when we are likely to win??

If you don't consider Mihocek a KPF then we don't play any KPD's.

Dont mind it. Get another look at Marshall as the backup ruck and if he's got a future there. Westy has consistently struggled up forward and hasn't been able to get his hands on the ball.

The key thing though is we're going less brute force and more class. Motlop and farrell are good ball users and can hit a target going inside 50 in a way Ebert/Westy are unlikely to do. We still need Ladhams in, but changing brute force to good skills is a positive move in my eyes.

Houston for bonner is a given.

Sutcliffe is the ****ing lamest shit, seriously.

Nothing against the guy personally but there is no way he's at the level required now or in the future.

I dont consider him a KPF in the traditional sense. He is not a bruiser like a Dixon or Hawkins. I would say he's closer to being a 3rd tall in the Gunston role.

I’m fine with the changes. Gotta stay flexible.

good call dropping Ebert, WestY and Bonner.

These three have done SFA in the last month or two, so it really doesn’t matter who comes in.

yes a risk no 3rd tall, but not enough to stop us winning

Woodcock an emergency last week and is leapfrogged by Motlop who played the scratch. Bad.

Also bad: structure out the window, Sutcliffe.

Especially this season, emergencies are more who has some run in their legs that we need to cover players under possible injury clouds or can provide general cover. Does not mean next in line to play. In fact being emergency means more likely to need to play a scratch match the next week .

One of my biggest fears is that we completely destroy North as we should and it's justification for Ken to not go small and then we get exposed in the finals as defenders are cutting off the ball to Dixon every single time.
Classic Hinkley lose-lose. We either lose to North. Or Ken takes the wrong lessons out of it. Ladhams is likely back next week, but I fear there, if Marshall doesn't have a blinder this week then it'll be at his expense. Ken proving the AFL world wrong about his short fleet of forwards I can't help but feel is a recurring dream that he'll never let go of.
