Out: Jonas
In: Clurey

Our defence has been average for weeks now and Jonas's form is the elephant in the room. Something needs to change.

SPP would be on notice for me, the most obvious candidate to lose his spot when Motlop and/or Gray return. Just not doing enough.

I also wouldn't be against DBJ coming out for Hartlett.

Marshall's (second?) biggest fan wants to drop the captain :drunk:

DBJ should have been dropped weeks ago.
Jonas is all but done.
If SPP is not in the main midfield rotations, can't see how he stays in the team.

Clurey was almost BOG last time we played the Crows. Is the best Walker matchup.

Jonas was putrid again. The end is near for him. He is in the early 2021 Hartlett zone - where the end has come very quickly.
Spot on more reason to get Petty home and will have to hand over captaincy to Ollie.
Just hope it doesn't way Ollie down.

id rest dixon.
Out Jonas Dixon
IN Clurey Mcentee

No resting, have you seen the ladder? There is nothing between us in Sydney in percentages, they’ll most likely win out, which means we either need to do that too or win well in 2 out of the 3. Percentage is a huge factor and I can see top 4 coming down to that so we need Dixon out there.

They’ll get a rest the week before finals.

I wouldn't rest anyone at this stage. We need percentage building wins in the next two weeks before facing the Bulldogs. Pre finals bye is a time for rest as long as the season isn't thrown into COVID chaos.

Himmelberg, Walker, Lynch and Fogarty. Maybe they bring Thilthorpe back in for Berg but its likely they'll go 4 tall. We'll need Clurey this week.

We don’t have much else ready to come back in now, which is probably why I think there is a good chance we will go in unchanged and give SPP, Jonas, Allir another chance.

Clurey is stiff though, and was near bog last showdown but I doubt we drop either Jonas or Allir.

If Toby Green kicked straight tonight - Jonas would have cost us 4 points again!

Clurey for Jonas is a no brainer.

Jonas has lost that burst of speed he once had that allowed him to play on the mid size forwards. This makes finding a match up for Jonas quite difficult now - but we can't exactly drop the club captain at this point. He's been destroyed by them lately, and only bad kicking saved us from Greene having a big day.

He had a great season last year, so hopefully he can find some of that form, because there is no obvious solution here.

no more pre finals week rest.
Id rather go in 5th with a rested uninjured team than 4th with a beat up dixon limping to the line

DBJ has slowly been building - still not where we want him to be, but if you watch his last few games in isolation, he's been ok. (There was one poor game in there somewhere though)

He was pretty decent against GWS, particularly in the first half.

SPP should be getting more midfield rotations - looks likely to be a fitness issue with him still playing catch up from missing a large chunk of the early season. Can't see any other reason behind it. At this stage, there's really nobody breaking the door down for his role anyway, so he will likely stay until Gray/Motlop return.

Those bagging Jonas and Aliir, you do realise that clubs have had to change their entry style to play us because of these two?
It's not necessarily them struggling, but the other teams changing (and scoring less) because of them.

Agree with this on Aliir but how does it apply to TJ? Genuinely interested here, not a rhetorical question.

Walker - McKenzie
Lynch - Aliir
Fogarty - Jonas / Burton
Thilthorpe - ???

Walker is Clurey's bunny - we might still see him come in, particularly given the Crows have quite a few talls

Jonas matches up reasonably well on Fogarty, which leaves Aliir/McKenzie on Thithorpe

Haven't seen Lynch playing as a forward much lately (but haven't watched the crows in a few weeks since he's returned) - he would be a good McKenzie matchup.

Agree with Aliir on this point, but Jonas is definitely lagging behind his man often and out of sorts.

There are a bunch of players out of form or who haven’t yet got their pre injury form back-

Jonas
Powell-Pepper
Marshall
Houston
Duursma
Fantasia
Byrne-Jones

I also thought our forward line was too big even for the dry, indoors conditions. We won’t get away with that outdoors in dewy conditions at night. This week we have to make the big choice on who to leave out- Marshall, Georgiades or Ladhams.

The Cows have the same issue- a forward line with Walker, Himmleberg, Floggarty and Thilthorpe/Lynch is too big for the likely conditions. A smaller defence should be able to nullify in the air and then waltz out of defence.

The problem is we don’t have much to bring in until Gray, Motlop and Jones return.

Hartlett is an option but given Woodcock was preferred as the sub, it seems the club think he is further back than I would have thought. I’d love him to come in for Marshall and play across half forward with a run in the midfield at times. I don’t think this will happen.

I disagree with those who would change our backline. Sure Houston, Byrne-Jones and Jonas are out of form, but the chances of them working their way back into form are much greater (and the rewards are much greater) than bringing in Frederick, Clurey or even Hartlett into the defence. Settling the defence is vital and one of the main ways to transition from a good team to a premiership contender (which we are not, yet).

I also disagree with the idea of resting players. There is still a bye before finals- that’s when you rest. We could still lose 4th to Sydney by percentage- they have GC in the last round and if they play after us will have the box seat for trumping us (assuming we lose to WB).

So I would-

In: Hartlett (forward)
Out: Marshall

I think we will:

In: unchanged
Out:

Did laugh at resting Dixon. How cocky have we become.

Only way I'd rest him is with reduced minutes TOG or by playing him out of the goal square.

And besides wouldn't want to confuse our mids, they wouldn't know where to bomb the ball without a bearded one to aim for....
It's not really about being cocky, it's about making sure is is fit for the other 3/4 games.

Yes, he often plays as a goalkeeper/backstop.
