I reckon Langdon is comfortably at the front of the queue of the newbies. He should be coming on for Barlows current role. Barlow back to the coalface, allowing Fyfey to go where he is needed.

Bennell won't be playing in the middle, he'll be replacing D Pearce (I hope)

Blakely is at the front of the queue, Ross said the only reason Langdon debuted(over Blakely) was because Blakely got injured.
Although Weller did get his debut first out of all three so then again i would say they are pretty evenly placed and it will depend on the pre-season.

Here is how we lined up vs the Hawks. Prelim
B Lee Spurr, Michael Johnson, Zac Dawson
HB Stephen Hill, Garrick Ibbotson, Cameron Sutcliffe
C Tendai Mzungu, Matt de Boer, Danyle Pearce
HF Chris Mayne, Matt Taberner, Michael Walters
F Hayden Ballantyne, Matthew Pavlich, Jonathon Griffin
Fol Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy, Lachie Neale
I/C Nat Fyfe, Tommy Sheridan, Michael Barlow, Nick Suban

Possible round 1 team
B: Lee Spurr, Johnson, Dawson
HB: Ibbotson, Silvagni, Sutcliffe
C: Stephen Hill, Bennell, Sheridan
HF: Fyfe, Matt Taberner, Walters
F: Griffin, McCarthy, Ballantyne
Fol: Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy, Lachie Neale
I/C: Michael Barlow, DeBoer, Suban, Blackley

Emerg:
Mzungu, Mayne, Alex Pearce, Grey, Weller, Langdon, Crozier, Z.Clarke

Reckon Silvagni deserves a chance to fill McPharlin's spot, the reaility is A.Pearce will be playing a lot cause Johnson,Dawson/Silvagni all missed fair chuncks of 2015...Not convinced Johnson is not passed his best and having trouble with his back...

We need to upgrade our bottom 6-7 players. I'm hoping to see the following changes.

Out: D.Pearce Dawson DeBoer Mzungu Sutcliffe Taberner Suban

In: Weller A.Pearce Blakely Bennel
Langdon McCarthy Grey

FB: Ibbotson A.Pearce Mundy
HB: Spurr. Johnson Sheridan
C: Hill. Barlow Langdon
HF: Walters McCarthy. Fyfe
FF: Griffin. Pavlich. Ballantyne

Sandilands Bennel Neale

Int: Blakely Mayne Grey Weller

Dawson to come into the side when the oppositions talls warrant a pure stopper and Taberner to be used to manage Pav throughout the year.

Mayne can be used forward or back as needed. Fyfe and Bennel to rotate through the middle.

A lot would need to go right in the offseason

Next year need to manage senior player like mundy , johnson. Don't like this year the car run 10,000 need service but this match we cannot lose run another 10000 , service time another run another 10000 although is not ideal but we got player suspension . Final time that player got calf problem. Isn' t in the beginning of the year Ross said he will play less game. O is not ideal but.

Grey A.Pearce Ibbotson

You've got Sutty out for Grey? ... No chance that would happen.

Like your back line, although I'd have Spurr instead of Grey, Spurr's much better by foot, love your centre line and half forwards but there is no way we can have Sandi and Pav in the forward line together next year. The opposition back men would be able to literally walk the ball out.

And DP needs to go. Sutty in.

Would like some though about this. Why when Sandi in midfield or at the back when he get the ball he always try to handball to another player without looking for better option.

It makes sense for him to give it off to a better disposer and/or more mobile player, so he'd be instructed to do it. The trouble is, as good as Sandi is, he isn't the smartest or cleverest player and he regularly takes the wrong option which gets us into trouble.

The opposition would be totally on to the fact that he will look to give it off so he needs to think it through and take the best option which sometimes is for him to kick it if there isn't a player clear to accept a handball.

The other frustrating thing is that he NEVER handballs longer than 2m. The guy is massive and must have huge dukes and yet his handballing is the quality of an under 15 player.

I think wholesale changes are good for next year for another reason. It would actually be nice to add a top 10 pick in there for next year's draft. so if we finish around 8 9 I wouldn't be to unhappy. Pav might be though. :(

RUTHLESS APPROACH

OUT: McPharlin, Pavlich, Crowley, Duffield, Sylvia
IN (more than 10 games): Langdon, Apeness, Blakely, Weller, Grey, T.Smith
MAKE OR BREAK: Clarke, Taberner, Mayne, Barlow, D.Pearce, Crozier, Dawson
BRING IT HOME BONDY: McCarthy, Bennell and Hogan if you're feeling brutal.
YEAR OR TWO LEFT: Johnson, Sandilands, Mundy, Griffin
THE FUTURE CORE (min. 3-5 years): Fyfe, Hill, Neale, A.Pearce, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Walters, Ballantyne, Spurr, Ibbotson
ROLE PLAYERS: Suban, de Boer, Ballard, Clancee, Mzungu

I reckon Langdon should play off the HB line and allow Hill back onto the wing/middle.

I'd like to see Mundy down back eventually, his evasiveness and elite kicking is what we need exiting defense - playing a Burgoyne-type role would prolong his career. I think Langdons downfall is his is kicking efficiency (based on draft reports), I am sure it will improve but for the time being him allowing turnovers across the centre is exactly what we don't need.

Hill back to the middle I agree with.

More than likely we will be using next year's 1st rounder this trade period. So it would be GWS that would benefit if we slipped down the ladder.

I largely agree with you. I am thinking of it as 'a year of reset'.

We need to implement a new game plan that utilises our strengths, but also allows us to score more.

We need to reconsider how we use some of our players - Barlow, Mundy, Fyfe and Mayne (if he is even best 22) spring to mind.

We need to move on from Pav and Luke, and to a large extent our other aging talls. We had only 1 fit KPD (Dawson) in the semifinal against Port last year and had 1 fit KPD who was short on match play (Dawson) and 1 unfit KPD (Johnson) in the prelim last weekend. We could have used Silvagni who has been injured or suspended all year and was incredibly short of match play. There is a message in this.

I don't think we should push Pav out. If he wants to stay then Tabs, Apeness and Sunshine (hopefully) could benefit from being on the park with him. If he does not want to stay as we are prioritising a reset, then I will cry when he calls it a day. I hope that Johnno still has more to give, the club and Johnno need to work that out.

We have 3 talls between the ages of 23 and 27 - Zac Clarke, Jack Hannath and Sean Hurly. It is a question mark whether any of them are AFL standard. I would like to see us fill in this part of the list with a couple of mature agers, so we can try to have some options.

I agree that we need to get some of the younger guys on the park (the 10 games list) to assist in knowing where they stand. Although the coaches made a lot of good calls that we as fans did not understand (for instance that Tendai's form had dropped right away), they also (I think) significantly underestimated the readiness of Alex Pearce. So some of these guys need to play some of the time.

If we drop out of the eight, such is life. We will have given ourselves the opportunity to start 2017 in a really good place.

Wouldn't mind something along the lines of this:

Ibbo Silvagni Spurr
Hill A.Pearce Johnson
Mundy deBoer Walters
Bennell McCarthy Mayne
Balla Fyfe D.Pearce
Sandi Neale Barlow

Griffin, Sheridan, Langdon, Sutcliffe.

em Weller, Blakely, Clarke.

The trouble is bringing in someone with elite footskills who can run hard enough both ways to play Rolys game plan. They dont grow on tree's unless you have good draft picks to play with. But at this stage the focus needs to be on bringing in KPP's to replace Pav and Macca.
Im still not sold on our small defenders ie Sutcliffe. He gets caught out when playing deep against the opposition gun small Fwds. Tries hard though he should be off back flank with more runs through the middle similar to Sherro.

Sherro t replace D. Pearce.
Sutty to move into Sherros role.
B. Grey to replace Sutty down back.

P.s- Watching Bootma down at Peel he has a booming kick but needs to put on the kilos if hes a chance against the gorillas.
Bootma, Weller and Blakely need to go on Fyfys dietry / training plan and they will be dead set guns.

All should be playing within first month though I would think. Barring injury of course #Mora

I'd play Alex P and Johnno as out tall defenders with ibbo taking third tall Spurr , Suban and Crozier making up the 6.
we need at least one left footer down back. Suban foot skills ain't to bad but crozier's are better and he will always be behind Balla and sonny in small forward role.

I'd have tommy and stevie on the wings Tabbs as lead up CHF has a huge tank - Reiwolt role. Appness a marking FF complemented by Fyfe. Ballas and sonny feeding of them. Toss up between Zac and Griff for other spot. Zac is far more mobile than griff but griff is a real trooper.

barlow needs to be put back into midfield instead of high half forward. Now is the time to bring in Grey and/or blakely to work with mundy, Neale and barlow with fyfe spending at least 50-60% forward. if they score bennell then he would definitely allow fyfe to spend more time up forward

Mason Shaw would be a good get now that his is delisted also Arron Black from Nth melb is looking for opportunities outside since he has dropped down the pecking order

Bench sutty, D pearce, Langdon, weller

C pearce, MDB, Mzungu, Mayne Dawson are now depth players

I'm assuming Pav has retired.

This is not a prediction per se, more of a wish type thingy. I think the club needs a reset

I make the following assumptions - Pav retires, we get Bennell and Aaron Black, we miss out on McCarthy.

Spurr - Silvagni - A Pearce
Ibbotson - Johnson - Sheridan
Hill - Barlow - Bennell
Crozier - Fyfe - deBoer
Walters - Black - Ballantine

Sandilands - Mundy - Neale

Griffin - Weller - Langdon - Pearce C

Mzungu, Dawson, Suban and Mayne I don't see as part of our first premiership. Griff offers more than Clarke.

This forward has more scoring in it than the current setup - especially if Black gets back to his form of a couple of years ago/

Spurr - A Pearce - Silvagni
Ibbotson - Johnson - Sheridan
Hill - Barlow - Bennell
Mcarthy - Fyfe - Weller
Walters - Pavlich - Ballantyne

Sandilands - Mundy - Neale

Clarke - Suban - Mzungu - Debour
