Quarantine's just announced for Victorians coming into WA. Guess the game might not even go ahead now? Have to be tested and quarantine until testing negative.
Isn’t that just those who visited an exposure site?

Witherden ruled out for at least the Essendon game.

Out: Waterman, Hedwards
In: Jones, Foley

Backs: Barrass, Rotham, Sheppard, Hurn, Cole, Nelson, Foley
Mids: Kelly, Sheed, Redden, Gaff, Brander, Ah Chee
Rucks: NicNat, Williams
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Allen, Ryan, Cripps, Petruccelle, Jones
Sub: Waterman
Emergencies: Langdon (held over), Hedwards, O’Neill

Dropped guys are unlucky but the changes make us smaller and more mobile, particularly with rain forecast. If we need height down back Allen can be shifted. In the meantime it’d be nice for Foley to have a full game in front of his home crowd.

Ah Chee survives by the skin of his teeth, to rotate through the final midfield spot with Jones. He’s holding the spot for Yeo next week anyway.

As much as I want Yeo back - both ryan and hurn looked short of a gallop last weekend.

With NN always on restricted gametime - I'd rather give Yeo a full WAFL game to help in building fitness - we are already short of run - that would compound it

2018 GF talls in the team
Barrass, Darling, Kennedy, Lycett, McGovern, Schofield, Vardy. That’s 7 players.

2021 vs Giants
Barrass, Darling, Kennedy, NicNat, Allen, Rotham, Brander, Waterman, Edwards, Williams. That’s 10

We have a serious team imbalance and gets really shown up against teams with very strong midfields, we really need to address this ASAP. Just playing way too many talls.
Selection panel have just plain got it wrong, asking Sheed and Kelly to perform miracles, they’re good but not that ******* good.
While both Rotham and Brander were poor on the weekend, both play and move around like smaller players. In fact I'd say both are quicker and more nimble than some of the bigger bodied mids going around. Counting them is like counting fyfe for Fremantles tall players.

Most of the bigger mids play inside though. We may as well include Sheed as a lumbering tall in that case.

Rotham isnt really a tall these days neither is waterman.

Waterman may be mobile but he isn't very good down low and the hallmarks of a good defensive small (tackling, ground gets. ground pressure acts) are totally absent. He's an overhead medium/tall link runner.
No matter how you throw the dice he can never be considered as a representative of the small mans club. On the selection table = tall.

Rotham isn't really a tall. His pretty quick and had good ground skills. I guess his tall but he plays small very well.

On the other hand Waterman can only play as a tall. They try to play him elsewhere but he plays like a tall and isn't quick enough for other positions. He can only play as a tall. Can't have him in a small players role.

I think 7 talls is the magic number & we shouldn't go above that - the evidence is pretty clear over the years since.
Ground balls, time in forward half, running out games all quite poor.

It's a bit of a difficult one in a lot of ways as JK is still worthy of games, Allen has come on in leaps & bounds (and should be protected from rucking imo), and Brander has started to show good form as a tall winger.

From the 10 listed I'd probably count Rotham, Brander & Waterman as 0.5 talls, so we're really sitting at 8.5 talls.
Unfortunately Waterman (who I'm quite a fan of) sits as the odd man out if we want to get down to 7 talls, and with the Bombers forward line not overly tall I'd probably leave out HEdwards as well - if exposed, Oscar could quite easily push back. The weather also playing a factor in leaving HEdwards out.

Dropping those 2 for smalls in Jones & Foley make the most sense to me and gets us to 7 talls.
TB, JK, JD, OA, NN, BW x 1
JR, JB x 0.5

I think Simpson and the selection panel just select their most talented 22 regardless of height or ground ball getting ability. Yes Waterman, Brander, Rotham, Edwards may be talented. But Xavier O’Neill, Trew, Ainsworth may be much more adept to competing for the ground ball.
I’m sure once Yeo, Shuey, and Duggan come back into the fold that talls will drop out, but it’s disappointing to see these tall players selected over these young mids who might just thrive on the exposure, and I’m sure could at least match Waterman 8 disposals on the weekend and maybe lay some tackles around the contest to give Sheed And Kelly more of a chance.
