As she should DTM.. it's pathetic when adults behave like that in front of children.. if you ever have kids yourself you'll realize how moronic and shameful it is

G'day all, long time lurker who has finally been inspired to sign up, hope I can contribute to the overwhelming wizdom of BF;). This post rings true to me today, was watching the game with the kids (both of whom are brainwashed like I was as a littlen) when I laid the boot into a toybox on the floor with a minute or so to go when Marty turned it over. I looked across to see my little girl (5) in tears, and she says "I just can't stand it when the pies loose". I thought the Mrs was going to call child services on me when she said that. So I had to sit her down, and explain that while life would be terrible for us as pies fans for the next few days, by next week the world would be back in order (thank GOD for the Dees!) and we would like the Pies again:D.

Anyway, back to the thread and for me Heater is the obvious in, and with us playing the Dees I'd say give Beams and Sidebottom a crack (had to sign up just to get that one out:p). As for the outs, despite my username I am not a fan of Johno and would love to see him never wear Gavin Brown's sacred jumper ever again...though he had plenty of mates and enough worse today to possibly save him.

Yeah I can get like that in game not all but most

its good to know im not the only one there going nuts

anyways, onto the changes...

in: beams, rocca, shaw, wood
out: jonno, g'sack, bryan, toovey

love tooves but the lack of skill is a killer
stay away jonno
not enough from the sack
bryan is a meatball...and im sick of him...PERSIST WITH WOOD!!!

True, but every now and then something happens where you just can't hold back.

This happened in the first quarter when McLeod, Goodwin and Edwards were all free on our half forward line and I just exploded with

"****ING STAND INFRONT OF YOUR MAN"
Yeah always try and hold your tongue around kids, but sometimes emotion takes over and expletives come out

"WHAT!!!!!!!!!!, **** off you green maggot, that was a fair maggot"

as a dale mark gets refused

Yeah, there's really no reason you can't just say, to use an example from the thread, "STAND IN FRONT OF YOUR MAN!" You get to shout your lungs out and relieve some tension without being unecessarily vulgar. I'm definitely a shouter when I'm at the footy, but I only swear if I'm drunk and with friends, not family. And even then it's quietly :P

OUT: Johnson, Reid, Toovey, Goldsack

IN: Beams, Rocca, Shaw, Sidebottom

We had too many Half Back Flankers in our side. We clearly could use some speed and skill, as well as the mighty man of stone, Anthony Pebbles Rocca. We could potentially also drop someone for Stanley, or have him come in instead of Sidebottom.

Also, Malthouse out, Buckley in? Or even Caracella.

Welcome to the board. :thumbsu:

I'm a fan of anyone who's not a fan of Johno :D

what's with some of the Cox hatred on this board? he was one of our better players on the day.. he's never the hard-tackling type so there's no point expecting that from him....

i think he was pretty good getting the ball out of defence today ...

in terms of johnno.. he's just in the side due to his fitness (clearly a necessity as shown in today's game).. Beams wouldn't have ran out the game....
but i agree, johnno is crap.. get him out

and bryan was bad today... but it's not like we've got anyone ready in the wings.... would Wood have done a better job today? probably not....

As opposed to creating neverending user accounts on a public internet forum, containing all forms of profanity because you can't bring yourself to follow the site rules everyone else is subject to?

Your hypocrisy knows no bounds, loser.

Alright here are my thoughts -

OUT: Johnson, Toovey, Bryan, Goldsack

IN: Shaw, Beams, Wood, Stanley

I'd also add Rocca in for Reid but honestly theres no reason to risk him against Melbourne and i'd like to see Reid presisted with. Bryan has to be dropped - I mean if he offers f-all around the ground and less in the ruck what good is he?? Wood might suck aroung the ground atm but atleast he'd win his fair share of the ruck and still has the potential to be atleast decent around the ground. It was mentioned before the game that we had too many HBFer types and how true!! Toovey, Johnson and Goldy really offer very little class/skill/competence so i'd bring in Shaw (who in combo with Cox will be very exciting) as well as Beams and Stanley to help out our midfield rotations. We got smashed here and its probably a good game to give them both genuine time in the middle.

Ruck changes?? Clearances weren't a problem and Josh hasn't played for a month so that isn't really the issue. Josh will start moving better over the next few weeks and his link run will become important again.
The way the ball was coming out of the back half and the midfield spread was the problem. The movement from the running players wasn't consistent and Adelaide always do that consistently, and if you don't they'll close you out.
The real issue is why we started flat and why we looked fatigued.

5 changes

in: wood, beams, sidebottom, rocca, shaw

out: toovey, bryan, reid, goldsack, johnson

Im not really happy with either 2nd string ruckmen, hopefully lachlan keefe could be the 2nd ruckman in the future

I agree with the bolded selections.
Wood needs to get a bigger ticker before he get's gifted a hit out.
He needs to put in a "gutsy" and "physical" effort in the VFL before I would even consider him in the real game.

No clearances weren't a problem but Bryan certainly was. He played atrociously and deserves to be dropped provided Wood plays a half decent game in the twos.

The ball movement out of the backline was definitely a factor in yesterdays loss but just as importantly was our lack of polish and class. The selections I suggested would address both issues. The inclusions of Beams and Stanley (i'd have included McCarthy instead but apparently he's not yet fit enough) would help out the midfield rotations allowing Cox, Clarke and Shaw to provide the run we need off the HBF.

You pointed out that we were flat and looked fatigued and the only logical reason is that we got tired - particularly the midfield players - because we didn't have the right interchange players to rotate through and give the midfielders a break. I come to this conclusion because we've had the best preseason preparation that we could hope to have had, so fitness really should'nt have been an issue. The fact the midfielders got tired goes back to the selection of too many HBFers (Toovey, Goldsack, Johnson in addition to the others) meaning we couldn't make the right midfield rotations particularly at the end of the game. Alot of our decision making in the last quarter were uncharacteristic and seemed to me to be tired decisions. Pendlebury and Clarkes mistakes in the last quarter exemplify this. Had we had the right midfield interchange players to rest guys like Pendlebury and Clarke I can't help but think that they would have been fresh in the last quarter and the outcome of the game may have been very different.

Out: Johnson, Toovey, Reid, Bryan, Goldsack
In: Beams, Sidebottom, Stanley, Wood, Shaw

Clearances were a problem in the first, we were getting smashed, need to blood some young mids in rotations and give Stanley a go after dominating VFL level. We went in far too tall with too many HBF and couldnt keep up with the Crows run.

Bryan needs to be dropped, he hurts the team, why should he be gifted a game when Wood by reports played well in the VFL practice match.

Certainties for this week are:

OUT: Toovey and Johnson.

IN: Shaw and Beams.

Possibles:

OUT: Bryan, Reid (however, I didn't think he was poor but will depend on Rocca's availability), Goldsack (didn't think he was THAT poor but he wasn't that good either).

IN: Rocca, Wood (depending on how well he played in the twos) and either Rusty/Stanley/J-Mac.

Also, hopefully Rus plays in the twos next week. We really need his body to stand up and put pressure on some of our forwards. The forward line functions with so much X-factor with him in the side.

Wood did very well in the 2's on Saturday

Wood did very well in the 2's on Saturday
The bloke he was rucking against was half the weight and 10 inches shorter.

In the quarter and a half i watched he still didnt chase or even look interested at pushing forward or back just float inbetween

Playing youth won't hurt us, particularly kids like Beams and Steele who seem more ready than someone like Reid. Look at how well guys like Rich, Robinson and Hurley have gone, I'm confident that our dynamic duo can have impacts like these guys. They'll at least bring some enthusiasm, and they'll know they're playing for a spot, unlike Johnson who is playing like he has his sewn up.

Against Melbourne we don't need to be too tall in the back half, so I would either rest Presti, or play Brown forward if Rocca doesn't play. I also think that against the young side the Demons have, it might be a good opportunity to give Steele a run (smaller frame). So I would line up something like this:

B: Shannon Cox, Nathan Brown, Harry O’Brien
HB: Martin Clarke, Nick Maxwell, Heath Shaw
C: Dayne Beams, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Leon Davis
F: John Anthony, Anthony Rocca, Paul Medhurst
Foll: Josh Fraser, Dale Thomas, Dane Swan
Int: Tarkyn Lockyer, Danny Stanley, Chris Bryan, Shane O’Bree

OUT: Johnson, Goldsack, Toovey, Reid, Presti (rested)
IN: Beams, H.Shaw, Sidebottom, Rocca, Stanley

That's a lot of changes, but everyone is justified IMO. Johnson, Goldsack, Reid and Toovey were awful. I can't see matchups for Goldsack unless one of Cox, Maxwell or Harry goes down / loses form. Same goes for Toovey, or until he learns to kick. Reid isn't ready for the speed of AFL footy with his lack of intensity. Presti rested for team balance against the small forward line of the Dees.

I'd line-up with our star-studded forward line. Didak and Davis both playing as small forwards, and not going past half-way. We need them around goals, and more importantly, we need crumbers around Rocca / Anthony / Cloke, because we simply let Adelaide run the ball out too easily.

Beams and Stanley, and even Steele, will add some poise around the clearances. These guys have looked the goods around stoppages in the VFL (for Stanley) and at training etc. for the noobs.

I'd also like to see us lining up with at least two of Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas and OBree in the midfield at all times.

IF Rocca isn't right to go, I'd line-up like this:

B: Shannon Cox, Simon Prestigiacomo, Harry O’Brien
HB: Martin Clarke, Nick Maxwell, Heath Shaw
C: Dayne Beams, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Leon Davis
F: John Anthony, Nathan Brown, Paul Medhurst
Foll: Josh Fraser, Dale Thomas, Dane Swan
Int: Tarkyn Lockyer, Danny Stanley, Chris Bryan, Shane O’Bree

OUT: Johnson, Goldsack, Toovey, Reid,
IN: Beams, H.Shaw, Sidebottom, Stanley

[Brown to FF.]

What is the current word on Rusling?
There is nothing on the Pies website at all injury wise.

He got a bit of it but was low % with his disposals and kept going with the non-preferred side which didn't help (that play-on banana attempt was just silly), one of them will be a goal assist in the stats but overall I think a player of his class would be dissapointed with his game. I am suprised that so many rate his game on these pages, will watch the replay with interest.
I'm the first to criticize Thomas when appropriate, but yesterday was a very good performance. The amount of work this kid does of the ball is astounding. Never stops running to create an option, whether linking up or providing a lead, and never stops chasing defensively. He did some great work around the stoppages too, not afraid to put his small frame on the line to win the ball, and his creativity was priceless yesterday, given how stale the rest of the side looked. Also, his disposal was excellent save for his stupid checkside. He was hitting targets all day, which is more than I can say for most of the others. Comfortably in our top 2 IMO.
