I didn't mind Rotham playing as a substitute ruckman

In terms of optics, it felt like he played better as there was less pressure on him to "screw up"

Playing him in the ruck was a bit of a free pass so to speak, and to his credit i thought he did well

Frankly I couldn't possibly see how Rotham is a reasonable ruck option at AFL level. Even now I'm still very skeptical that it will ever work, but after yesterday let's say I'm interested to see how it goes.

I think he’d be a reasonable second option if we had a lead ruck who was an endurance machine. Not sure he’s a viable backup option when our lead is only spending 70% of the game on the ground.

I'd put Nic on the shelf the rest of the year unless he is fit and desperately wants to play JKs farewell game (if so rest Bailey)

XON & Foley should stay in the team need minutes please please pleaseplay Foley back.

Hough needs a rest, Witho dropped

Bring Yeo & SPS in

Rest all the old guys this week for 1 last throw at the stumps for a win v Adelaide.

V adelaide

in: NN yeo JK Shuey Hurn

Only problem with that is that bringing in a bunch of seniors in the same week has tended to go poorly for us.

Out: Kennedy (managed), Shuey (managed), Hough (managed)
In: Rioli if back otherwise Winder, West, Yeo

Backs: Edwards, Bazzo, Yeo, Hurn, Duggan, Jones, Witherden
Mids: Kelly, Redden, XON, Culley, Gaff, Foley
Rucks: Williams, Rotham
Forwards: Darling, Barrass, Waterman, Ryan, Rioli/Winder, Cripps, West
Sub: SPS
Emergencies: Jamieson, Clark, Naish

Change of plan. Swing Barrass forward in Kennedy’s absence, see how Edwards and Bazzo go without him. Yeo can play big, can also provide a bit of run. Witherden gets a reprieve. Can always swing TB back if need be.

Foley replaces a tiring Hough on the wing. Rioli in if available, if not then Winder gets a chance.

West in to replace Shuey who looked beaten up a few times. The club insists Kelly’s not injured so give him a chance to redeem himself I guess. West can take some mid rotations.

Persist with Rotham in the ruck for another week, give NicNat a week on the track.

MC needs to make some hard calls. Time to prioritise the newbies over the older guys. Surely we can find a reason to rest - 'manage' - one of Shuey, Gaff or Redden each week so West or Clark etc get games. Edit: That is, another game IN THEIR NATURAL POSITION.

Also if TK was sore, what is the urgency to select him? I'm sure Clark would not have done worse.

Of course all this discussion is against the backdrop of who will get delisted. It's easy to think a decision has already been made on Clark and Winder. If they don't already have a line through their name then why aren't they getting games? See above for Clark, and Winder could have replaced Rioli.

Out: Foley, Hough, Shuey, JK
In: Winder, Rioli, Yeo, SPS

Shuey (rest) Hough (rest) JK (rest)

Bring Nic and JK back fresh for Adelaide.

Out: Hough, Foley, Witherden, Exxon
In: Nicnat, Yeo, Rioli, SPS

Exxon has had a couple of weeks to show himself in the midfield and stays as the sub. Rotham takes Hough's spot on a wing and around the ball. Yeo for Witherden. SPS plays 2 games in a row as a full time mid. Give him the same couple of games opportunities afforded to the younger players the last few weeks to actually play his natural position. Foley out as a ****ing HFF for Rioli.

If Culley drops off over the next couple of weeks then give Clark the full genuine midfield treatment for two weeks. If he doesn't drop off then those 2 games given to Trew, Exxon and SPS are then his minutes.

If Kelly is unfit then Exxon to stay in. If Kelly made the call that he was definitely right to play after a fitness test and we now know that he wasn't then he gets dropped. Purely on principle and team discipline. It's rough but after our injury run a tough message needs to be sent. If Kelly said he really wasn't sure and the S&C and medical team made the call then it's blatant incompetence and we need a full clear out of those departments, not just 1-2 replacements.

If kelly made the call he was fit to play and they went with it then he should be dropped on selfishness…

Compare that to Tom Atkins from Geelong who when asked why he is playing said below…

Asked if it’d been frustrating biding his time outside the midfield, a humble Atkins told Fox Footy: “It hasn’t been frustrating. It’s been a constant grind trying to improve.

“I don’t care where I play, I’m just happy to be in the 22 at the moment. There’s a lot of great guys in the VFL that are missing out at the moment, so I think we owe it to them to play well – I owe it to them because I’m on the fringe – so I’m just happy that we’re able to win.”

Wonder how our culture compares

Yeah, I wish we had the sort of culture where a premiership midfielder says he’s happy playing reserves and mentoring youngsters if that’s what’s best for the club.

I think Gold Coast could rack up a cricket score against us on Sunday, we're completely and utterly shot.

In: Yeo, Rioli, West, Jamieson

Out: Kelly (inj) Kennedy (rested) Foley, O'Neill

Darling has kicked 10 goals in his last 7 games, compare that with Kennedy who has kicked 20. Surely a boot needs to be kicked over these under performing vets like Darling and Gaff. They are only doing their trade value more damage every week.

I thought it was refreshing. He did get ragdolled around a tad at throw ins but i like the idea

Darling’s form has been fine. He’s been working his arse up the ground. Tougher to kick goals when you’re doing that.

Darlings been huge since he got his legs back under him. Has to be right up there in the B&F.

Pretty sure Simmo said yesterday that Kelly was fine/uninjured and he just got well beaten on the day.

It was a very poor game to be sure, but people are calling for him to be dropped on form? It was only 2 games ago that he picked up 40 touches and 2 goals against Richmond at the G!

The only reason he was singled out for such a heavy tag job is because he is our prime mover in the midfield. And has been for the last 3 seasons imo, in a time when our other A grade mids in Shuey/Yeo have barely been able to get on the park. But yeah, let's drop him.

He's a victim of the high price we paid for him at the trade table. Too many people expect too much and the moment he has an off game, all you hear is bitching and moaning about how we paid too much for him and that he should be dropped.

This.

And I bet a lot of the people on here who are bagging him said SFA when he tore it up against Richmond.
