If Haddrill played a key back role it would release Dodd to fill the M Carr role. He'd do a better job IMO.

I think you're being far to easy on DJ by excusing his performance because he was in the Forward line. Our other forwards were ok (far better than him anyway) The reason he had a shocker was because he actually had some defensive pressure on him ie an opponent that played tight as opposed to the Melb game where he ran loose. CC admitted this in his post game interview after the Melb game.
And his disposals aren't anywhere near as good as his fans make out. The few that he got yesterday were crap.
Thanks for the feedback though.

I agree that Doddy could do well in that role, but I think the match-ups will save MCarr this week. I'm sure Doddy has played on Riewoldt a few times and done quite well, so he may be required there. He and McPharlin are working well together on the key forwards. Carr will still be needed to shut down a midfielder.

I'm not convinced on Robbie yet. Would love nothing more than to see him get back to his best in the purple, but he's had too many injuries over the last 2-3 years and I think another 2-3 weeks in the WAFL would be best for him. If he can get through that then I think he's worth the risk.

Just another point on McManus.... I didn't mean to sound like I was targetting him or anything... it's just what I think needs to happen for us to move on.

By the way, if he plays this week... I think he will have a good game because of the Saints' style of game. They don't have a strong midfield.

But do you guys think the coaching staff would have a tough time dropping McManus, just because of who he is? No doubt he gives it 110% every week and if he is dropped and we lose, there will be a huge media backlash on the coaching staff. Though I suppose they dropped Parker, however everyone was aware of how bad he played in the game before he was dropped.

Kenny, I can't see how he won't get sorted out by the MRP. That knee at the end of the game was unnecessary. Solomon got done for running into a guy, McManus made a conscious decision to drop the knee into someone. I can't see him not being cited.

You've certainly changed your tune from when this thread started!

Let's be honest though, there is no chance Headland will be dropped, even with we think he should be. But he had been playing well up until yesterday as I said.
Yeah had time to think about it further.

You're right, he won't be dropped, and he had been ok in the last 4 games up until yesterday. I just think that he's soft and self centred, and I was picking that side purely on acheiving a harder edge and more team oriented. There's no denying his skills on the occasions when he's on fire.

After Ablett scored a goal a Geelong player (Johnson?) was down on the ground and winded. According to the Sunday Times Josh Carr whacked him and will probably be reported. :( :(

I actually thought Matt Carr had his best game of the season to date and looks to be getting some touch back.

I can see where you are coming from with Macca , Kenny.

He certainly had his best quarter of the season, 10 minutes into the game he had accumulated 7 or 8 possessions. Started the second quarter well too, then only had six possessions in the second half.

A lot of the players are cruising, dropping the two serial offenders might send a message to the rest of the group that you give 100% when you pull on the Fremantle jumper or you play for Subiaco.

Won't happen though.

I agree he faded as the game went on but I was thinking more about the quality of his disposal rather than the quantity.

He appears to have turned the corner.

His kicking did seem much better, and I can't recall any of his customary fumbling. I still don't see the logic of him playing in the centre square. We need to be proactive in there, and have our defensive mids come in off the square.

I'd like to see CC give Foster, Ibbo or Collard a go (just one though). Just to shake things up and get some different energy in there.

Our backline has been targeted a lot more and isn't coping with the pressure but you'd have to keep Mundy in the team due to his skill level and ability to create.

Des doesn't play good when the team is down but there is no one better than him outside the team that deserves a game instead.

We need to drop one or two of our midget, slow unskillful brigade so I'm all for either M Carr (regardless of one good game) or Macca being dropped and one of the youngsters I mentioned getting a game. Walker is in the team and has only ever been in the team due to his pace. He's not a long term solution and would not be in a Freo premiership squad.

Haddrill isn't in the picture yet IMO.

I'd go...

In - Collard/ (or Ibbo), Hasleby (if fit)
Out - M Carr (he won't be dropped though), Walker

Where did you get this one good game crap from? He has been a consistently good tagger this year.

We have players like Crowley and such who are good players but cannot consistantly win the ball... but he has other strengths, he can play a defensive role, is reliable goalkicker, and he is quick accross the ground and agile.

Which scalps do you have him down for so far this year? Bartell isn't one of them. He is having an ordinary patch, and like a few others needs to step up before the year has disappeared.

out - Des Headland....for ever
in - Paul Haselby

Much as I agree that Des had an ordinary game, Duffield was by far the most ordinary of our medium sized players today, followed by Walker. Then a cluster of players including Headland, Webster (how was that shot at goal?), MacManus and Black. Headland also has a BOG to his name, and some serviceable games too, and is our leading kick-getter. He may not be the champion we hoped, but he is not the one most deserving of being dropped either.

I think Crowley is one of our major problems this year. Along with Mundy and to a lesser extent Johnson. The output from those 3 alone this year is a long long way off what we were getting from them last year.

I wouldn't mind seeing Scotty Thornton get a game in place of Mundy if he is fit enough.

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention Scotty. I'd like to see him back in the side too. And I totally agree, these 3 guys have been pretty disappointing so far this year, after being very good last year.

He's a plodder. I think my favourite 'tagging' game he played this year was the one on Daniel Kerr.

His disposal is a liability (go on, tell me it's not) and when the opposition has the ball he is next to useless. ZERO defensive pressure skills in that regard. Definitely give a young kid a game instead.

Thats because teams know thats our strength and they've put pressure on these guys. Young players need to learn from that and adapt. You need to give them that chance.

And Roundhouse, I'm a Dessie fan. You don't have to convince me.

IN: Collard
Out: Webster

Maybe (plus above):

OUT: Walker
IN: Ibbo/Foster

EDIT: Forgot about Hasleby

IN: Collard Hasleby
OUT: Walker, Webster
