I'm not a tanking fan, but it would also lower out later round picks. (Plus very slightly increase the chance that he might slip to a second round).

Sheedy will nominate for him.

It's a guarantee.

pick 26 or pick 30 are the same thing regarding second round upgrades

Apparently, Fletch is an outside chance to play this week, and Carlisle has no break to his leg,but has ligament damage.

Season is done and dusted and now is time to blood some young players.

Out

Fletcher ( inj )
Carlisle ( inj )
Melksham
Monfries

In

Pears
O'Brien
Ross
kavanagh

Pears a straight swap for Fletcher - Richmond only play two talls so that should be OK.

Kavanagh to play the Melksham role.

O'Brien to play the monfries role - But to rotate through the midfield

Ross to play midfield - Want him to match up on Grigg.

I don't want anyone to play the Melksham role.

Out: Fletcher (inj), Carlisle (inj), Melksham (act of God)
In: Pears, Dyson, Myers (only if 100% ready)/Reimers

Losing Fletch and Carlisle means Pears has to come in. I really can't see them making too many changes and Melksham has been deserving of a rest in the 2's for a while but it hasn't happened so I am not holding my breath.

If we lose this week I reckon we will see some of the younger brigade get a crack in the final round to give them a taste of "The big stage" but if we win hopefully it will be from a performance worthy of players keeping their spot.

Why? Pick 1 is going on Joe regardless.

Our 2nd and 3rd round picks are higher. Hell if we missed the finals the lower the better. We need elite quality in the midfield, it is easier to get that with the higher pick.

you don't just get elite quality in rounds 2, 3 etc, its a long shot, but it can happen.
Think Rory sloane at pick 40.

You have a better chance the earlier the pick is. That is pure reality.

The Sydney teams shouldnt be able to nominate for him as he has said he doesn't want to go there, although its probably not in the rules.

i think we could probably get away with 2 KPD's this week as richmond basically have riewolt aaaannnd Griffiths? so hurley could still play forward if we have the confidence to play hooker on JROO again.

but yeah pears, kav, O'Brien and Steinberg should all come in for mine

Myers a no, but Howlett might be in contention

Seriously this club....how is a "1 week/test" injury to Myers SIX WEEKS AGO....still count as injured. I would wish they would tell the damn truth for once!

I'm not even mad at the players. I won't lie, I didn't watch the second half against Carlton but I'm also not of the view that a half of football played like that is a reliable indicator of anything. It just lends itself to the overly emotional rubbish analysis a perfect example of which is Connolly's bravado of Sunday on SEN and in yesterday's Age.

Everyone thinks chasing is so simple and yet they want to ignore the fact that for 11 of our 22* against Carlton the short explosive effort required to chase and tackle was just another point of potential soft tissue damage.

I was thinking that we play Hurley in defence this week and bring Gumby in if he is fit enough. My absolute preference for Hurley to play forward aside we definitely need the cool head down back to settle things. A forward combination based on Ryder, Gumby and Crameri is certainly dangerous enough. As we are not really in a position to dictate terms from the midfield enough to take full advantage of the forward targets we might as well get maximum output from Hurls.

The question is then whether it is necessary to bring in Pears. I've had a quick look at the Tigers' side for round 21 and it doesn't seem that they had a key forward in addition to Jack although Griffiths or McGuane may have been used forward and not in defence (Griffiths is injured now anyway). I'd hazard a guess and say that Dustin Martin will spend a bit of time forward. I'd like to give Pears the responsibility of minding him.

Pears aside I'm also not particularly convinced by the form of anyone that played for Bendigo although O'Brien probably did enough to get thrown a game this late in his first season. I doubt whether there is any point bringing Howlett or Myers back. History has shown that if they are going to perform it might be against Collingwood in their second matches back but if we lose this week the match against Collingwood will be irrelevant anyway. I suppose both could come back via Bendigo so they could hit the ground running against the pies without being liabilities against Richmond.

Out: Fletcher (inj) Carlisle (inj)
In: Gumbleton Pears

* Seriously, who of Zaharakis, Ryder, Hurley, Crameri, Hooker, Melksham, Monfries, Hibberd, Browne, Stanton and Heppell looks like he has any confidence in his body? Heppell and Melksham aside all of them have spent the year with significant soft tissue problems and Heppell and Melksham are both spent. I've got no hesitation including Hooker given that he had to change his running gait to deal with hamstring problems and he has been "dropped" on a few occasions more recently and did miss a game or two earlier in the season.

It seems there is a totally different mindset between Ess BF potsers and the Essednon football club right now. Most in this thread are calling for wholesale changes, blooding kids, first gamers because the season is done. But everything coming out of the footyclub says that they believe we are still in with a big crack of getting 8th. (i guess they have to say this but they are anyhow) With this in mind and the fact they have rushed underdone players back the last 2 weeks to get the best team in on paper i wouldnt expect a raft of changes other than the injuries.

out Carslile, Fletcher
in Pears, Gumby.

Although i wouldnt be surprised to see Colyer worked in somehow.

Just as a side point.... If we are following the Geelong blueprint too a tee... (which we are) i think its at the end of this year that we have the massive review, shit gets said, people get upset, then we move on. And step it up a gear. For memory about this time was the time bomber was thought to be close to the sack and was peeved at having to have been in a review. It was apparenmtly turmoil at the cattery.. then began the dynasty!

Bring on the sweeping review!
