i uploaded that video back in april when people were talking about melksham's defence as an example of recent talk about it not being an isolated incident, not a recent thing that will go away in a bit (as it hasn't.....). the dude has serious problems there, and we can't blame it on the weapon

I know I am in the minority but I don't mind Melksham. He will always be more outside than most, but he does perform a specific role. He has had a fine year, especially the first 2/3rds of it. He has just run out of petrol this last 5 weeks.

So, we're the dummy game for this weeks "Rule crackdown of the week". Any takers on guessing which rule it will be?

From that family, I'd probably draft The Black Prince or Henry V first, but since they're all descended from a bear (apparently) I'd say that they'd probably bring some fight to the table.

Ever considered that some players are simply too stuffed at times and not lazy? Melksham and Heppell don't have the solid 4+ years of pre-seasons/seasons the likes of Watson and Stanton have had. In addition, there is a reason players like Robert Harvey, Dane Swan, Paul Kelly, Shane Crawford etc etc are so special, not everyone is capable of gut running like them.

well then we're right back to the whole 'we should drop him' thing
It surprises me that it hasn't occurred to anyone that maybe he doesn't get dropped because the coaches believe he is trying harder than a lot of others out there, even if his form or years of fitness isn't the best. Considering effort is the thing they want to improve and encourage for a number of players, maybe it's by keeping him in they are showing others that until you reach that level of effort that you won't be consistently selected and when you do, the faith will be kept.

I personally agree with it. Lets look at his season as a whole, he was good for the first half, and has really gone down after the break. Honestly I just feel he is running on empty, physically he is tired. He is just not fit to play the whole season as a fulltime midfielder. Melksham is a good role player and he will be better once he can run out a season.

He needed a rest 5 weeks ago. Not a dropping, but a 2 week rest. Every other bloke has received a rest- heck they just injure themselves!

i considered that back in R4. now i'm considering whether they're just ****ed in the head
So if other players still have not got the message, you lessen your message to suit them? That makes no sense whatsoever. The coaches know what they are doing. It doesn't preclude them from making mistakes in certain situations, however this is obviously not an oversight.

A long term message to all that the right behaviour with work rate at training and game day will be rewarded is more important to be set in stone early.

...No he wasn't. I looked at the post game thread following the first Richmond match this season. Guess what. We were saying the same stuff about Melkshem then as we are now. We've been having this discussion since the GC game, the 3rd game of the season. He's barely played two good games in row this season, let alone have a decent run of them.

Quite clearly what you, I or others on here define a good game as may differ from the coaches. After all, they know all the background and instructions, we don't.

Lonergan is probably the biggest trier on the list. Didn't save him. Lee got warned for going in too hard at scratch matches during the preseason because he wanted it so bad. Dell'Olio got promoted before him. Making an example of hard work is good...but making an example of under-performance on the field being tolerated is a bigger. At the end of the day, everyone is judged on how they perform on gameday. Melksham hasn't been judged all season. That's not good. Or he has been judged and they've got some ****ed up standards

What do you want from him, he is still a kid, he is not going to get 40 disposals a week yet, he does not have the tank yet. I thought he was more than fine while we were doing well, and his form like Essendon's has really gone downhill after the mid season break.
