None of our forwards lead!

Has anyone besides me noticed this?

Yes and i blame our ball movement, the opposition has installed easy tactics to beat us. Get numbers behind the ball, wait for our lack of composure to force us into poor decision making and spank us on the rebound.

Butler, Cockie and Priddis attempting to force the ball forward with a total lack of vision when they are the ones with numbers on side is painful to watch. The lack of run of half back was equally as damaging, our backs where forced to kick to contests and into bad situations.

The common trend is that our senior midfield briggade is to blame. We must play, Masten, Ebert and S.Selwood they are clean compared to the others, they are attacking and more creative, Swift and Shuey must join them as soon as possible at the expense of senior players who simply can not perform at afl level.

hmmm naitanui eh?

im seeing guys like rich, hill tearing it up, but our younger brigade is struggling or is stymied in their development

why did we waste a draft pick drafting a guy like tony notte? that move shapes as well as us drafting brandon hill

and then i thought beau wilkes showed promise last year, but he seems to have gone backwards as well
I think Tony Notte will become a very good player and hard to match up on!He

None of our forwards lead!

Has anyone besides me noticed this?

I don't think it's so much they don't lead but rather we tend to hold onto or run the ball for too long. We don't go a first clear option often enough.

Often the forwards will lead yet we don't get it onto them quick enough, so they are either stationary and battling in a contested situation or have already lead and have no further space to lead into which stagnates the the play.

Of course, when your delivery is as it was tonight, it all means little. The only 2 quick and clean passes I saw into the forward 50 tonight at the city end were by Masten. Just 2! By a kid!

I think Tony Notte will become a very good player and hard to match up on!He has only plated 2 games.

He is a fantastic talent yet just too light to play as a KPF at the moment. He was always drafted as a project player.

He is also one of those forwards who has an excellent footy brain. When he isn't kicking goals, he is creating space and setting them up. His stats will never show the full extent of his work. It's no co-incidence that Swan Districts struggled from the moment he was injured in the Subiaco game until his return.

Criticising him or his selection is simply ignorant.

I don't give a f**k if Woosha doesn't think he's ready...GET NAITANUI IN THE TEAM! If we don't, Coxy is going to fall over in a heap soon...Seaby is no help to him

Here is the simple fact:

We are too Kerr concious, every time a midfielder gets the ball straight to Kerr. He could be on the ground with 3 players on him and we would still pass it to him.

Cox: Everytime he played for a free i felt like throwing something, His passes were terrible but his job is to tap it to our midfielders and he clearly won that battle with 30 tapouts, we are just so used to expecting so much more from him and when he has a couple of ordinary games like the last 2 weeks we forget that he is NOT a midfielder but a ruckman. He sooked alot tonight and that is very strange for him, needs to lift his game next week.

Daniel Kerr v Adam Selwood: A have heard that Kerr is not happy that Selly is the Midfield leader, and has said that he cant provide enough protection for him, so why put his body on the line. Is something going on that we need to be worried about???

Mckinley: Lazy Lazy footballer and is NO where near LeCras in his all round game So woosh better have a hell of a reason for dropping Lecca tonight.
Ben keeps his spot only due to the amount of Goals he kicked, No other reason.

Mitch Brown: There was no match up tonight and we were exploited by this, Needed to be dropped for team balance and the selection commitee failed to do so. We had no-one else that could play on Davis once he started killing Nicoski and they (pies) used that very well.

Seaby: Once again team Balance meant he should have missed out if it was wet and even though it wasnt raining it was a cold duey night and we should have gone smaller, When B.Jones was brought in it should have been Seaby that went out not McNamara who in the past has played as a small defender. Will be needed next game against Carlton as Hampson is 205cm iirc and too tall for Lynchy.

Brett Jones: Terribile, is in a real form slump and he is bringing the rest of the squad with him, needs to be dropped.

Wirrpanda: His use of the ball was always his strength and the last couple of weeks he has been terrible by foot in particular, and he is dropping simple chest marks. He gets through on his record, just.

Sam Butler: Is either down in a slump or just not good enough anymore.
I was critical of his game last week and the week before with his nothing posessions and lack of pressure on the ball carrier, This was again highlighted tonight by the fact he was soundly beaten by every opponent he had. Need to be Dropped.

Mark Nicoski: WOW what can I say about a player who basically kicked the ball to the opposition every time he kicked it........ Yep I got nothing more then he was S#*T and should not be in the side next week, even if we played the murrinbidgee under 12's side as they may just work off him as well as what the Pies did tonight.

Mathew Rosa: I thought he was not our worst but certainly needs to fix up his kicking. He put maybe 4 hospital handpasses to players who either wernt expecting it or players that were meant to be dummy leads and clear space for him. He needs to stop panicing when he hear's footsteps.

Daniel Kerr: Needs to stop calling for the ball while under pressure, Stop looking for the little behind the back cheap touches, start laying sheapards, stop running away from goal and kicking to a contest when we are out numbered. Maybe needs to be dropped to show him he isn't the "Be all to End All". Hell collingwood don't have a real tagger and Kerr still had NO influence on the game.

Our game Plan: I understand what we are trying to do, but there are aspects of the game plan that make absolutly no sense. Like the lack of crumbers in our forward line, the way we transfer the footy to nothing then have to transfer it back to a contest, the way we mark the ball and dont look forward for our next target insted we look backward and side ways for a little dinky handpass to a player when he has to pass it straight back to the guy that passed to him. This is something we need to eliminate from our game plan. Our decoy runners are the rookies and lesser known players when they should be the targets and Kerr, Priddis, Selwood should all be the decoys when we move the ball by hand. Look at what leon Davis did to us tonight by being the reciever, Swan and Pendlebury even though they got alot of the ball they never had the impact they normally have because they were the decoys, we had 2 guys chasing them around which left davis free and when they maned up Davis this left another plaer free. Really Simple.

So this leads me to the Changes.
Now most weeks i would have 4 or 5 changes due to whatever reasons but this week it was a near whole team shocker (bar from some shining lights) and we cant change a whole side, So...

Outs: B.Jones, Nicoski, Brown, Butler.

Ins: LeCras, McNamara, Stenglein, Swift

FB: Wirrpanda, Glass, S.Selwood
HB: Hurn, Mackenzie, Stenglein
C: Embley, Priddis, A.Cockie
HF: Ebert, Lynch, McNamara
FF: LeCras, Kennedy, D.Kerr
RR: Cox, A.Selwood, Masten
INT: Seaby, Mckinley, Swift, Rosa.
EMG: Brown, Houlihan, Davis (traveling emg)

Play Kerr out of the forward pocket, 1) he can kick a goal, 2) he finds the ball well when it hits the ground, 3) when the play move into our forward line the Blues structure will have to change.
Have Adam tag Judd, Stenglein tag Murphy, J.Mac Tag Stevens, Cockie on Simpson and let Masten go to Gibbs if he doesnt go to Kerr in the forward line. Remember Gibbs is their No1 Tagger now take him out of the game by making them play him as a defender.

Cox v Kruezer in Ruck and Emac when he goes forward, Seaby v Hampson, Glass v Fevola, Embley v Waite, Wirra v Betts and Scooter v Yarran.

The rest are mix and match.

EA LeCras didn't play because he was sick. Do you really think he would be dropped?

We cannot have our whole midfield out there tagging the Carlton midfield, that is just rediculous.

Do you think Kerr will play next week after his sly little headbutt? I know others get away with worse than that, but this is Kerr we are talking about.

Personally I think we played better without him last week. All he did was run around in circles collecting cheap possessions and disposing of the ball very poorly. Anyone who still thinks he is elite has rocks in their head.

Dean Cox, instead of playing for the free everytime do you think you could make a contest occassionally? It is truely becoming embarrasing.

can anyone on here seriously see us challenging Carlton at the Dome of all places??

I would love to beat the blues there - believe me but seriously we have never played well at the Dome and the way we are going it could get ugly.

The blues were belted by Adelaide yesterday and will be fired up like mad and on the Friday night stage will be hungry.

What would be a respectable result for us?

Anything under a 6 goal loss I think would be not a bad effort.

For those wanting to drop Nicoski this week, he had 18 possies at 89% efficiency. If everyone had that return we would have won

That's all good and well Larri but when his opponent who he's supposed to be minding has it 35 odd times and kicks 3 goals it's still a shithouse performance

I don't give a f**k if Woosha doesn't think he's ready...GET NAITANUI IN THE TEAM! If we don't, Coxy is going to fall over in a heap soon...Seaby is no help to him

bullshit. If Nicko isn't ready, he shouldn't play.

Stupid to bring him in early purely because....well, there's no reason.

Both Seaby and Lynch are giving Cox a break.

That does not sound good at all. I hope you heard this down at pub.

Mark Nicoski: WOW what can I say about a player who basically kicked the ball to the opposition every time he kicked it........ While one hardly expects reasoned and sensible analysis from EA, perhaps this needs to be addressed.

In last nights game, Nicoski had 6 kicks and 12 handballs. Thats 18 possessions. He had 89% disposal efficiency. That means that 2 of his 18 possessions didnt hit an Eagles teamate. 2. Thats the number between 1 and 3. 2. Two. By the way, he was second in dispoal efficiency behind E-Mac (93%).

So, EA, either your eyes deceive you, or once again you have allowed mindless prejudice (against certain players) to affect your capacity for reason.

Nicoski was FAR from our worst last night. And yet, amazingly, when our midfield disposal was at the heart of our problems last night, Priddis escapes your attention. He turned the ball over 9 times last night - you miss that?

Some people on here need to actually step back, open both eyes and actually watch what happens in games rather than decide things on whether they think someone is a good bloke, or has nice hair or whatever it is that drives the rationally stunted. :p

Nicoski can kick 70m bullets for all I care. He cant defend at all. Thats my major problem.

More crap analysis. According to the coach of the Eagles, one John Worsfold, Davis got away and was too good when matched up against Brad Ebert - its in the press conference which is available for free on the AFL website.

Nico played on Davis at stages but the Eagles did not have Nico on him as a lockdown defender. They STUPIDLY were happy to allow him to get the ball as long as "he didnt hurt them going inside 50" (assistant coach Daniel Metropolis).

Nico actually had him at stages and certainly was responsible for that goal in Q2 - but the coach specifically mentioned Ebert struggling with him and Cockie getting flogged by Swan....

But whatever, carry on with the irrational, ill-informed abuse...

By the way, I am not saying Nico couldnt have played better. Just pointing out that much of the argument on here is merely ill-informed dribble - do people actually watch the games?

Nicoski can kick 70m bullets for all I care. If his opponent gets 32 possies and 5 shots at goal then he can f off to the WAFL to learn about accountability

See the post immeidately after yours.

Again reason is something you often lack also.

How did you rate Priddis?

Isnt and never will be good enough for a starting midfield spot. His best use is as a impact player off the bench. Look at my ins and outs a few pages back to see my thoughts. I want youngsters in, and some youngsters out in all honesty.

Make Masten and Ebert earn a game. So far in their careers they have been gift wrapped opportunities they dont deserve. Swift Houlihan Davis are much more deserving and work ALOT harder than these 2

Haha... so you edited your post after reading mine :thumbsu:

Quality stuff.

Of course I had already quoted the irrational dribble. Sorry. :p

Anyone who watched us last night and reckons we need more players with a defensive mindset must be bloody kidding. We need more players prepared to back themselves, take risks, and attack the opposition. The safe kick to the boundary was bloody horrible last night. We need players like Nico because they naturally take the game on - they always look bad when they **** up but a team without adventure will get us nowhere.

Just thought id simplify it. Im not necessarily against Nicoski the player. Im against Nicoski the defender. If he plays in the midfield or of a HFF then i can accept him being in the team but atm deep in defence or anywhere in defence he just isnt good enough

It was Nicoski who had the goals kicked on him.... Ebert had the stats racked up on him. It was 40-60 as far as manning up on him went but IMO Nicoski deep down in defence doesnt hold his own and hasnt in a while

Can I answer please?

Awful.

After his 2nd miss on goal I knew it was going tobe a longish night.

Still bless his heart for trying. The likes of Masten and Ebert could learn a thing or two about hard ball gets and running from him. Masten and Ebert have more talent in there pinkies then Priddis has in his whole body yet Priddis is forging a AFL career while the other 2 are one step away from WAFL immortality

I dont disagree that we have given some opportunity ahead of others BUT ....

As Woosh said last night, Masten is starting to feel more comfortable in himself (which means his body is starting to feel up to AFL) and certainly they have been waiting for him to get to that point. He had a minimal pre-season relatively speaking and is still "getting there". He had 3 kicks into our attacking zone yesterday that were the best 3 our team had all night. He is also still not playing anywhere enough as a starting centre square player - which is his position.

Ebert has gone backwards this year. One hopes its related to coming back from the injury and again, the limited pre-season.

Houlihan deserves a spot, but he is generally outside and IMO needs to play Rosa's role. I would do that swap every day of the week but the coaches do worry about loading up on inexperience.

Swift is the future but given his last 2 years and his modfied pre-season they are being cautious... I would pick him immediately.

Davis, I remain unconvinced, - we need pace and he is 100% committed to everything he does BUT he sprays the ball worse than Nico and Fletch and he makes poor decisions. He does that at WAFL level as well. I like his speed and competitiveness but, not sure...

... and apologies for my grumpiness this morning! :p
