But it happens every second week; we name 25 and (usually) only one of the three travels, so two of those "namings" are pointless. Are you saying it messes with their heads to? I think it tells them that they're close to the right stuff, keep going.

Not a message we should be sending to people who are breaking team rules or not doing what is required. They don't even get into the 25 until they follow the rules.

The way it is at the moment, he's being brought into the 25 as if he is doing all the right things to play, and then being left out in favour of Crichton, JVB and Hinkley. One might suggest that such a deliberate lifting of hopes and then being denied was actually a public punishment?

So ahh.. Harvey is ****ing with his mind? He's Palmers coach not a pissed-off girlfriend.

So why is Harvey doing what he's doing then, when we so clearly need Palmer in the side?? Duthie-esque almost...

This is an opinion not a fact- don't get me wrong I would like him in the team however selecting a team is not just ranking the team in best to worst and counting down to 22. Would just be very surprised that Harvey would use any selection spot for the purposes of mind games

Esquilax Palmer is one of the hardest trainers at the club you have heard rumours about attitude problems an jumped to the wrong conclusions.

As for Walters the reason he isnt getting games is injuries/suspension but when he was dropped the reason given was he doesnt work hard enough without the ball, they love what he does with the ball an know how dangerous he can be, but have said he needs to work on his off the ball work(which can be described as lazy/attitude problem)

Nothing like that was ever said about why Palmers not getting games or why he has been dropped.
I think all ive heard is them say he needs to go back to WAFL an see if he can find some form.

I haven't heard rumours, I have asked the question of coaching staff at training sessions, and especially at a couple of away games (Richmond and Carlton last year). This year I've also spoken with a few club people from the Sharks who confirm this "issue" is still there, a bit. They beat around the bush but essentially confirm the "problem" is professionalism to the "process". Maybe Palmer is a hard trainer, but maybe it's only when he wants to rather than when he has to, unlike the rest of the team.

Harvey has said (paraphrasing) that Palmer knows what he needs to work on, and that he has to apply himself to those things.

This weekend I heard Clint Wheeldon ask Todd Curly about Palmer, and Curly confirmed what Harvey said. Then later in that program, the Melb based reporter for "The West" (forget his name) said that Harvey "rides Palmer very hard at training". He too leapt ahead and said, he MUST be leaving. I say it's bullshit; the club is trying to get Palmer and Walters on board with The Process.

I think the club is working it through, but it looks especially bad when we're so thin for talent with potential.

Look, I've tried to be careful not to overstate the "problem" in response to the conspiracy theory that he has already signed for GWS. Unless Harvey is prepared to give a direct answer, I get the impression they're happy to leave it out in the ether via an imponderable "Palmer knows what he needs to do". I think that confirms my thesis, sorry.

FREMANTLE
Star ruckman Aaron Sandilands is running and faces a fitness test this week on the injured toe that has sidelined him for four weeks. Key defender Antoni Grover will also be tested after suffering an adductor injury against Melbourne, while goalsneak Hayden Ballantyne (hamstring) has not been ruled out by coach Mark Harvey. Forward Kepler Bradley (knee) was a late withdrawal against Melbourne, but he is available. There were no WAFL matches at the weekend due to the WA v Queensland state game, but Rhys Palmer, Dylan Roberton and Josh Mellington could push for selection if the match committee decides an 89-point thrashing warrants extensive changes.

Just listened to Harvs on 6pr. I didn't think he sounded too certain about Silvangi's fitness-i doubt a half of a reserves match and some match simulation is enough, especially for a KPP, which he will likely play as if Grover misses. I would just give the old man the week off to make sure its all good instead of being in doubt and possibly tearing it at a later stage. I would also be very cautious with bringing back Ballas before he's 100%, as we don't want him out for the rest of the year. Ditto Sandi and Kepler.

Conflicting views on Ch 10 and 9, with Goosage sounding very doubtful re Sandi, Crowls and Grover, whereas Ch 9 much more upbeat more or less about everybody!!
Will wait till team selection tomorrow...

sandi & ballas are definite starters.source, player's mum.i spoke to her this morning i hope she is on the money.spewin' i forgot to ask her if crowls, groves, snos & hayden are all starters as well.

Was Jesse playing on Green? If he was, why was he and he really did cop a hiding.

I think everyone had a crack at Green at some point. Melbourne were rotating a lot of different players through their forward line and the players struggled to get the match-ups right on the fly. It was very similar to the tactic Hawthorn used against us in the 4th quarter a couple of weeks back actually.

Against Hawthorn we had Broughton and Duffield playing midfield and forward respectively. McPharlin was following Roughead all over the place. It pretty much left Grover as the only permanent defender in our back half to organise the troops. Melbourne was just a case of not having the right mix of players to cover the players Melbourne had available; plus sadly our midfield just didn't work hard enough to help out.

Unless we have the right balance/leadership in our back half we're always going to be exposed by these tactics.

Thanks for that Prattsa. I also get the impression that the backline is not as organised as it was last year. I really though it was our strength last year that + our forward pressure. I wonder if Scott is the reason and the loss of Tarrant.

We really need someone down there who is experienced at pointing - MJ? :p

Apart from Grover and McPharlin we lack a third lockdown backmen. That is our issue. Ibbo, Duffield, Broughton are all playmakers out of defense. Sure they can 'occasionally' shut someone down but geez what I'd give to have a Dale Morris type back there in addition to Grover and McPharlin..

Yeah leaky, leaky. First it was Rioli that torn us apart, basically won them the game off his own boot, then it was Green. It used to be milne or LeCras or Thomas from Nth Melbourne. This has been a problem with the club for years. I guess Suban is the only one that could handle the challenge, but do we really want to waste him in a purely shut down role. I sometimes wonder if Deboer could handle that role if his kicking wasn't so unreliable.
