Which makes me think just treat it like the flu. If you're too sick to play, don't play but dump the close contact requirements. But now we're going to be stuck with these rules all season.

This is spot on, although i don't trust the AFL to stick with the rules though.

Yeah, those are being rapidly dumped at state level anyway.

Is it though? Allowing players to decide whether or not they’re “too sick to play” ≠ dumping close contact requirements

I think it is, people have it without even realising it, i have had mates in that scenario, had zero symptoms but had to get tested due to close contacts, so if you don't realise you have it, how sick are you ?

No it isn't. Players aren't allowed to play while positive, including in Victoria. And Victoria just had another 10,000 cases today.

Yeah I know, but mentally for people, it really is.

If this was North I wouldn't want the game postponed, despite being keen to run up back to back wins against you guys.

I want the day out at the footy. As you say, there's lots of cases, and as I've said repeatedly in this thread, it's going to get worse into winter.

This will happen to Vic clubs too

I wouldn't even mind if the AFL said after 3 rounds or Easter or whatever, sorry this is going to disadvantage some teams (e.g. West Coast) hit hard early in the season but we're dropping close contact requirements now.

Otherwise, we are going to have a continually disrupted season with more games with no-name top-ups and their potential nightmare scenario: Grand Final week, Melbourne v Richmond. One side has 10 players cancelled and it turns into a snore-fest belting.

So when do we just start laughing, or have we started already.
The team with the most injuries is now hit the hardest with the Covid protocols.

What the hell did we do in the off-season????

Satanic rituals on an ancient Indian burial ground, I believe.

Probably shouldn’t have hired Collective Minds to run the pre-season camp, in hindsight.

Exactly. Kennedy missed a game a few years ago with flu because presumably he was flattened by it, but if it has no effect play on.

Yeah, hard agree.

Out of interest, is anyone else involved in amateur sport?

I coach community soccer in Melbourne. Football Victoria had all these rules about signing in, Covid coordinators, reporting cases etc.

Every team is ignoring them.

We have basic rules: Masks in change rooms & separate water bottles for each persoson, so far everyone is doing what we are told and there hasn't been any cases in the team yet. I do expect it sooner then later though.

Though i did hear about an ammos team where a player knew he has covid and played anyway and then the whole team got sick a few days after... all for a scratchie haha

So if one guy gets it from his kids then gives it to the rest of the squad then they aren’t taking due care?

I don’t know.

…but they clearly aren’t managing it correctly - otherwise the same thing would be happening to Fremantle.

Or is just more ‘bad luck’?

It’s been a rolling shit show of a club for the last 18 months at least, so my faith is pretty low right now that it’s being handled correctly.

How many players at Freo have kids that’d be bringing it home from school/daycare?

Suspect that’s the difference.

They have 2 cases and it could easily happen quickly like us.

2 weeks ago we only had Hedwards , Kelly and Ryan in HS protocols and it spiraled a week later.

Much the same though we hardly ever use change rooms.

Had a few cases - these are kids.

Hope not, got onto North @ $1.84 earlier in week.

This after getting on the GC @ 2.10.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.
I got GC +23.5 and now North -2.5. Happy times.

Freo is $1.90 vs WC next week. Surely with all the disruptions, injuries and WC players with covid these odds will change by game day?
