Players like McGrath and Polkinghorne don't offer anything that Mayes or Polec could offer whilst getting games into them.

I hear all this 'defensive' side of Polkinghorne but I just don't see it.

IN: Mayes, Polec, Banfield, mckeever, Leuenberger
OUT: polks, maguire (inj), Brown :), acorn, Longer

totally agree...Must get games into our talented youngsters
There is an excellent thread from Last of the Roys from last year detailing exactly why it is sometimes a bad idea to pack your group with too many younger and more inexperienced players.

There is a fine balance that the selectors must strike.

EVERYONE has Polkinghorne in the out column (which is fair enough), but will Voss actually drop him this time? Wouldn't be surprised if he is sub against Adelaide.

Isn't room in the team for Bergs, Longer and Martin. When Bergs comes in, Longer goes out.
Also if Lisle or McKeever come in for Ace, there is another relief ruck option. Sounds like Niall deserves a shot in the forward line and the added defensive pressure wouldn't hurt either.

Geez a bit harsh on some of the forwards in this thread, seriously didn't think Martin was that bad (Ace I have an obvious soft spot for so will generally give him the benefit of the doubt, that said sif drop him :p). Seems very reactionary to drop all the forwards and more or less throw out the structure we have been using all preseason when if the midfield actually turns up to play could totally change everything.

Still I think we will see Raines brought back in (for Polks I reckon) and Leuey if they are convinced he is over his injury. I didn't think Longer did poorly, just clear we need hope to get back on top in the middle of the ground.

IN: Raines, Leuey
OUT: Polks, Longer

Out: Ace, McGrath, Polks, Golby, Goose, (assuming injured)
In: Luie, Mayes, Docherty, Rains, Lester.

Longer to move forward and replace Ace then chop Luie out. Think Longer gives us more aggression then Lisle. If Lisle is to come in then replace Martin not Longer. Mayes to replace McGrath, Raines to tag Dangerfield, Patful to play CHB. Beams to play full game. Lester as sub.
I would love Cal to come in, but he is a rookie. In the goals last to weeks in reserves.

Hey guys, there is no Bartlett. We don't have a Bartlett available to play senior footy.
Polec is still working his way up from injury and interupted pre-season.
Harwood I think limped off the ground a week ago???

Three days ago there was pretty much concensus on how good our team was for the Bulldogs game.
No-one had a great game yesterday and at least 14 had less than ordinary ones.
How you'd pick one over another to miss out from yesterday is beyond me.
The exception I think would be Raines in and we all pretty much were surprised he missed out anyway.
Who he should replace is debatable because as much as Polks has been singled out as sub par in the past, I just didn't see him as any worse than the rest yesterday.
But if you insist on throwing up names to come in, at least have a think about it and whether they're available or ready.
Fev for Ace:thumbsu:

Out: Cornelius, Longer
In: Leuenberger, Raines

Rocky and Karnezis to rotate in forward pocket/wing. Raines to tag Dangerfield. Beames to start and Polks as sub.

Changes : maybe some heart and skills ,game plan ,plan b , some one who's a real match winner please

No point in wholesale changes. Just make the force changes IMO. This team was picked for round 1 for a reason. I'd like to see them given a chance to respond to the drubbing.

It is easy to say that Luey should come back in. With his re net history of injury and game fitness I would be giving him one more week in the two's. Jacob's will dominate against either Longer or Luey (due to prior mentioned reason). The mids are going to have to read it off Jacob's taps and play man to man in all ruck contests. Therefore no changes there.

If I think back to the team we had on the paddock last year we did function better without McGrath and Bewick played very well in that spot. Raines does need to come in to tag Dangerfield and release Redden (I hope that this is why he was down last week.) Beams to start and Polks out. Lester to come in and be able to play back or mid. So only two changes in McGrath and Polks. Not a lot of experience lost if Raines comes in and those two to go out.

In: Raines Out: Polks
In: Lester Out: Maguire (injured)

Raines tags, Polks does SFA.
Lester plays third tall.

No need for wholesale changes just a boot up the backside.

I'd be surprised if they brought Lester up to play as a defender considering that seem to be focusing on playing him as a midfielder. Not that I wouldn't be against him getting a game.

Out: Maguire, Cornelius, Polkinghorne, Golby, Longer
In: Leuenberger, Lester, Raines, Polec, Docherty
Polec as sub, Beams a full game

Surprised at the number of changes being announced in this thread, it's not as if most of the players have been playing bad for a while, it's been 1 game.

I would only make the 1 forced change, bring in Raines and perhaps bring in Leuenberger for Longer if and only if he's fully fit.

In: Lester, Raines, Leuenberger
Out: Maguire, Polkinghorne, Longer

McGrath to be the sub, Beams to start and hopefully the Lions actually show up this Saturday night. Can't keep chopping forwards like Cornelius or Martin as there's no point kicking bags in the NEAFL. If the coaches want them to develop, keep playing them. Let them know where they're going wrong, and adjust accordingly during the training sessions.

Oh, and I hope Voss drills every single person on the Lions list on how to kick for goal correctly. If we kicked those 2-3 very gettable shots in the 1st quarter, who knows what could have happened?

Out: Martin - Can't let him think he's gonna get an easy game in this side, Polkinghorne - It's time, Cornelius - Hasn't performed since GWS game, McGrath - Can't let him think experience and sheer skill will get you a game

In: Leuenberger - Replace Martin to take 60% of ruck duties and work his way back in, Banfield - Gve him a chance too show why we shouldn't delist/ trade him after the season, McKeever - In for Cornelius down forward, heard he has been playing well down there in the resies, Raines - In for Ash, never, ever, ever leave him out again, ever! If Hnaley misses chuck lester or Polec in for him.

B: Jaensch, Rutten, Otten

HB: Smith, Tailia, Reilly

C: Van Berlo, Dangerfield, Vince

Foll: Jacobs, Thompson, Sloane

HF: Johncock, Walker, Douglas

F: Porplyzia, Jenkins, Henderson

I/C: Mackay, Wright, Martin; Petrenko

B: Lester, Merrett, Golby

HB:Adcock, Patful, Hanley

C:Karnezis, Raines, Rich

Foll:Leuenberger, Moloney,Redden

HF:Beams, Brown, Zorko

F:Bewick, Martin, Green

I/C:Yeo, Rockliff, McGrath; Docherty/ Banfield/ Harwood/ Bartlett

Emg: Longer, Polkinghorne, Clarke

Out: Cornelius, Polkinghorne, Longer, Maguire

In: Lester, Raines, Leuenberger, Docherty/Banfield/Harwood/Bartlett

Defence:

Lester has to come in for me. It makes the defense more mobile. Against the dogs there was no run from the backline. Merrett and Patful are more than capable of handling Walker and Jenkins, plus Lester can help Merrett and Patful as the third tall.

Golby, Hanley and Adcock need to lift defensibly and offensively.

Yeo is going to be a good player long term, just needs to cement his position in the best 22 this year.

Midfield:

Raines needs to come in for Polkinghorne. Needs to do a job on Dangerfield. He is an experienced senior player needs to be given a go and will contribute some level of leadership on field. Either play him Vossy (if fit or not injured) or delist him at the end of the year. The list does not need a 28 year senor player not getting games.

I would like to see Karnezis, Rockliff and Beams resting forward and giving guys like Green, Zorko and Bewick opportunity to rotate through the midfield or wing.

I hope Beams gets a good run through the midfield. Good gut runner who can win the hard ball and link up during play. Can also kick a couple of goals.

Leuenberger needs to come in for Longer and battle Jacobs in the ruck. Leuenberger needs to ruck for at least 50% of the game and play forward. He kicked a couple of goal in the Reserves and plus he is a proven contested marker. Martin can ruck for 50% of the game in order to easy Leuenberger back from his Achilles injury.

Forward:

I’m following Essendon’s forward line structure last week when they beat the Crows. Essendon had the two talls in Hurley, Ryder up forward and Bellchambers rotating with Ryder through the ruck. Crameri is the mobile third tall that I see Bewick playing for us against the Crows. If Cornelius is going to play the third tall, he needs to apply pressure in the forward line, hence why Bewick needs to play that role until guys like Mayes, Paparone and Close develop.

I see Bewick playing that third tall. The reason I dropped Cornelius is because he does not apply pressure when the opposition has the ball in the backline. Bewick can play above his height, rotate through the midfield, apply pressure and has the ability to get around 15-20 touches. Has a decent work rate.

I thought about dropping Green, but he had the second most tackles behind Redden in the team against the Dogs.

Sub:

I would love to see Docherty debuting this week. It would bring some excitement I think for the Fans after the Doggies done a drive by on us as last week. The kid is going to be a good player. He would add run and class by foot around the ground. Exactly what we need in the short term and long term future.

Banfield was one of the best among the Reserves this week and would not mind if gets a go. His got around 50 games under his belt and needs to be given a go to determine whether he is going to be part of those core players that are going to lead the Club to success in the future.

Harwood and Bartlett are the dark horses that might get a game this week, but unlikely.

we brought in a great team against the doggies, they just wanted to win more, and we got far to big headed after that nab cup win

drop Cornelius though
