Prediction CHANGES FOR ROUND 2 VS ST KILDA

Feels like EMac has lost his mojo. Sometimes it's the little things with him. A lapse in concentration, half a step back, can't find the right option, outpositioned i the contest etc. things he didn't really have a problem with before. He needs a longer stint in the WAFL to recapture that.
He's definitely a confidence player and the flaws you mentioned has been with him with his whole career, especially the lack of concentration/awareness.

Out: Petrie, Eazy, Hutchings

In: Giles, Barrass/Schofield, Sheed

Eric's had 4 games in a row to show he's improved / over his injury and the confidence issues that come with that and also to show he can fit into this new look backline but he's still struggling, unfortunately for him. He also looks extremely weak, he's being manhandled in most contests. It's sad, used to be one of the best in the comp one on one.

Nelson and Wellingham keep their spots. But if they put up another game like today's, next week then I'll be wanting a swap for Buttman and Franky.

Just on Nelson though, he seems so much more comfortable rebounding, than being more lock down on the oppositions dangerous smalls. He'll need to be switched on next week when he's on Gresham.

**** everything.

Forfeit the game, who cares anymore.

I think Vardy-Giles is a poor combo in that they don't complement each other at all.

Giles is a bigger bigger bodied, taller traditional ruckman.

Giles is a big forward who can hold his own in the ruck, good leap and can move around the ground pretty well.

They certainly aren't the same type of ruck. So why don't they complement each other?

I think they are both a bit lumbering. Vardy moving pretty well for a guy with so many injuries tbf but I still don't put much stock in either of them producing too much up forward or pressuring consistently.

Petrie was ideal because he was pressuring all day and can contribute up top.

I think Nelson needs to be backed in a bit. Throughout his career, he has been in and out of this side. I think as a defensive unit, we were a bit scrappy today. Jack should get better with experience. I dont want them to back him in like mitch Marsh got backed in but he should be given 2-4 games and told by simmo his spot is safe. We need to blood some young kids and be prepared to back them in at the same time. Nelson wasn't woeful and IMO was better than sharrod and on par with shep.

out Petrie inj ,
Wellingham

in Giles /McIness to replace ruck
Schoey or Barrass to put 3rd tall option in def which was lacking today with Gov playing a more accountable role ,,

To be fair on him today he was on ruckman sized forwards. None of our defenders had the size to match them. He could handle Waite ok

That's a fair point. I still don't think he fits this new look backline though.

quite worrying now we only have two ruckmen left.

Yep, especially since one who in the past has been injured in every season since being on an AFL list.

Check out the size differences Emac 196 cm 100kgs had too give up ,needed help with a 3rd man up at stages but hey selectors elected to go small def....

Brown is 200 cms 101 kgs
Pruess is 206 cms 109 kgs
Goldstein 201 cms 106 kgs

Whilst he had a shocker today, I won't be too bothered if Mackenzie is around for another game or two. Think he'd match up well enough on the more mobile Saints forwards like Bruce or Membrey.

If Sheed only played limited minutes this week you think he'd be a longshot to jump straight back in.

Mackenzie couldn't keep up with Ben Brown. How is he going to be able to handle mobile forwards?

i'd be surprised emac is 100kgs. he was that n 2014 but at the moment he looks like has gone on a hunger strike.

So Lewis Jetta had an ordinary game in JLT against Melbourne and backed it up with another ordinary game today. Should we be concerned?

didn't he play on ROO last time?
He might do ok if Mccartin plays but i agree on the your other points.

Just looks too weak and is either slow to react or is generally slow and no where as agile.

we gotta expect that jetta isn't going to fire every game and will probably fire every few games and thats what jetta at his best tend to do as well. He however, needs to have better games than today, even when he doesn't fire.

His timing is all out.

Whilst Barrass wasn't spectacular today, he at least spoiled with conviction

Didn't think Eric was capable of that at any stage today.

Theres moments when certain player go down a level and they won't dominate but when they return, they look very settled at the top level. Guys like sheed, Barrass and butler are that. Im gonna expect a slow start from barrass when he returns but even then, he should be a positive to our side. Simmo better have not messed with his confidence.
yeah nice pick up, I was surprised as well but that what AFL SITE says I could have lied and said 95 kgs I suppose .. ;)
95kgs seems more realistic.

I thought Brown played really well early on with his leads and can't imagine Barrass would have faired any better on him.

Maybe I just don't rate the saints highly enough with their ability to create the same separation with their leads I guess. They seem to get most of their marks further up the ground and it's nowhere near as damaging.

Or maybe I just need to melt harder about it! Emac will probably be gone next week in any case but I probably won't lose as much salt as others if he gets a chance at redemption. The main damage came early from winning stoppages I thought, so I'll just keep freakin out about whether we can do that well enough. We can win well enough when the back 6 are off as long as we're firing in the middle

Franky Watson won't be too far off knocking on the selection door with his form for East Perth. Has been absolutely outstanding. Not sure this is the week though.
