Doggies were smashed pretty much entirely on the spread yesterday. Pretty sure Masto is safe this week; Hutchings won't do any better on the outside, and he's not exactly been able to redeem himself from whatever kept him out round 1. Think Hutch is fighting Redden for that last spot tbh, more of a chance to knock him out of the 22. But Redden will be given a few more weeks to put together some form too.

Whilst Masten's got clear limitations, you can't ignore that he did some good things too. Far from his worst game.

I'd love to see a Pet debut, if we're going to replace Masten. Whatever he lacks in ball skills in comparison, we'd see upside in pace, defensive pressure, and x-factor. But yeah, can't see it happening. Stoked if it does.

Nelson for Cole the only one I reckon.

Surely Cole will get another week off. If not, straight in pls.

Getting games into these kids is the top priority for now

Hope DV gets another run he wasn’t that flash but we need to back the kids.

Masten ...... must go.
Nelson ..... Cole comes in .
Schofield.... match ups will determine if he stays.

Disappointed that we lost but I did like the effort.

Pretty much my view from my OP. I think both hutchings and cole come in. Masten stays and Schofield out if dogs play small, Masten out and Schofield in if Schace and Boyd both come back

Great intent from Jetta, but he was one of the worst users of the ball tonight. AFL player ratings has him worst on ground, which is probably a stretch:

No way he is dropped for being sloppy though, it clearly wasn't the right conditions for outside polish
The graph there says it all. Our top 10 or so players are very good but then we drop off way too much after that

Last night was just enough rain to make the ball super slick but not enough to bog the game down, that and first game of the year explains shit ball use

I think we all agree Nelson out. Masten wasn't that bad, if Venables had done as much you'd all be peeing your pants, I'd say he gets another week unless Ah Chee is fit. Schofields spot will depend on matchups, so probably only one or two changes.
Vardy offers more than Lycett but that may be a few weeks away.
I reckon I saw Masten pack his dacks at least twice yesterday; soft player, can't tackle but always gets tackled. Doesn't deserve a game as he adds nothing to the team and should have been delisted prior to 2017 rather than being rewarded with a contract extension.

Contract extension was on the eve of the 2016 season, on the back of three top-10 B&F years between 2012-2014 and a pretty good 2015 up until he copped a dose of potato rot from Nic Suban sticking his arm in his mouth.

His form has dropped off a cliff since then but he's contracted until the end of next year. He actually wasn't too bad last night playing solely as a half-forward.

Citizens demand change

Would love to see change.
The good yesterday we got the ball inside 50 a decent amount of times, actually winning it. The bad we did absolutely nothing with it most of the time we just bombed away and had no structure without JK. Question do we have a genuine tall key forward on this list apart from JK, JD and Waterman aren't really tall enough to be genuine key targets.

Fmac and Vardy.

People thinking Masten was ok, were you watching the same game?

Kicked one arsey goal, spoiled at least 3 others and generally ineffective around the ground. He can't tackle. nor break a tackle to save his life and doesn't hurt with possession.

Get in a youngster, or Hutchings who at least offers a physical presence and is a bigger threat around goals.

Out: Masten

In: Brains/ Hutchings

Need more from our bottom five players. Nelson id give another week, while Schofield is to be picked on a week by week basis depending on match ups.

Your being kind Miguel Sanchez .

Masten was bloody woeful last night.
He is the weakest link ( literally) , let’s the team down with his inability to handle the physicality of the modern game.
Games styles and game plans can change very quickly and The Crayola Kid has been unable to adjust and been found wanting.

He isn’t going to get any better and therefore IMO there is no point playing him I would much prefer to give someone else a go at that position , someone who may improve and be a contributor in the future.

Masto does good things but on balance his strengths aren't outweighing his weaknesses in the past 2 years. Every now and then he seems to get some angry pills into him and he is twice the footballer. Far too passive most of the time unfortunately and just refuses to go when he just needs to throw himself in there and create a contest.

I'm no great fan of Masten but his kicking was quite tidy last night and his pass to NN was one of the best kicks executed for us during the game. In an ideal setup he wouldn't be playing and I'm sure it's only a matter of time till someone else gets a crack but it's not as though he's keeping some jet out of the game.
