Hutchings would not be playing the same role.
He offers the ability to run out a game, to cover defensively (territory) and deliver inside 50 better than Hutchings or Partington.
If the role was an inside mid I'd take Hutchings every single time, but it wasn't.
Hutch played the high half forward role and wing last year and was fine. He can also play a lock down role either forward or in the midfield. Masten had one good kick inside 50, and bugger all possessions on top of that. Hutch would get a lot more of the footy then Masto because he's not afraid to hit a contest and has the body size to impact a contest, so you're balancing one guy who has one good kick and a goal over another guy who offers multiple role options and can kick goals when required. Dont forget Masto has had his fair share of sprayed kicks lately as well.
Id take the guy who wins the footy for us on multiple occasions over a guy who has one decent kick, a lucky goal and then gets pushed off the contest constantly.
