I thought Tabs had a really valuablr game on the weekend. He does need a game like Cam had pretty early this year to not find himself playing for Peel at some stage. I really think we will be to tall, with the four of them in plus Cox. I was thinking at the game its almost a perfect set up as is minus hogan and Cox. two genuine smalls plus a defensive guy worked pretty dam well. 4 talls is to much for sure but well see.
Cox has work to do however he's competing with McCarthy. Cam has him for speed and skills. Tabs doesn't need to have 5 goal hauls to be effective, just look at the game on the weekend. How do you think Cam had such a good game (third tall). When the opportunity presents, Tabs just has to slot them but he opens up our smalls and the other forwards for more opportunities.

His bail out work on the long kick up the wing was valuable to. Yeah at this stage I really dont want Tabs gone. Im spooked by being to tall though. Cam also has to keep performing as well. Can Lobb ruck a whole game with Tabs back up? Tabs, Hogan, Cam forward line could be dope, take Darcy out?

Fair enough, but from my perspective pre 2018 he was delist material. But after 2018, even with the extensive injury he had, I would now say he is a required player, and I think he adds a lot of value with his contested marking, and presence leading up the ground. He is an interesting one, and may be worth something on the trade table in the future if he struggles to break into the side. Remember that Hogan has had a lot of injuries, so having someone like Tabs available could be the difference between winning and losing on any given match when our talls are depleted.
The other thing about Tabs is he can nut punch an opponent while taking a great mark. I don't think we have anyone else on the list who can do that.

So send Darcy to Peel just to keep Tabs in the team? Madness

As I have said earlier, McCarthy onto the ball would be be the way to go. He has the skills, agility and endurance to be a decent tall mid.

Backs : Pearce, Hamling, Hughes, Ryan, Wilson, Tucker

Mids : Fyfe, Mundy, Langdon, Bhill, Brayshaw, Cerra, Conca, McCarthy, Darcy, Colyer

Forwards: Hogan, Lobb, Taberner, Walters, Schultz, Banfield

Its a tall side alright but still has a bit of speed on the outside

Eagles went too tall in QLD last week and it killed them. We can't go too tall - ball will getting more slippery as the game goes on with the humidity. Need another ground level player to replace ballas

WC got killed because they just weren't good enough full stop. Not because they were too tall.

In fact the average height of both sides was exactly the same, and WC's group of 7 x KPP/rucks was collectively shorter than Brisbane's group of 7 x KPP/ruck types. And we played 6 x talls on the weekend, so going to 7 isn't that outlandish.

Collins (GC) likely out due to concussion. They are very depleted in the back line for talls..
That's not good for Sam. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

The forward line is still a work in progress, getting a positive mindset from things going alright (even if it's cheap due to an easy defence) while working through the bugs is probably a good thing for us.

Actually I'd say humidity is a very convenient excuse for being belted all over the park. It's even more convenient to explain it away as that rather than Hipwood and McStay performing to plan and going to only halve contests against McGovern and co. Fact of the matter is Fagan thoroughly outcoached Simpson. It doesn't really get that slippery, especially in the middle of the day (pertinent for us this weekend and not West Coast last week admittedly). Crock of shit WA journalism if I've ever heard it.

Having said that...it's supposed to rain in Brisbane and the Gold Coast from Wednesday through Saturday and the ground may still be moist. Plus I wouldn't take a fourth tall regardless. Maybe don't change the team and see how Hogan runs at Peel for mine but if he is available and is to be picked I'd swap out Taberner albeit very begrudgingly

Look I'm on record saying its wrong to drop Tabs for Hogan for culture reasons but people are kidding themselves if they dont think Hogan in for Tabs would make us a better side.

Tabs played a good game on the weekend that we are all happy with but if it was Hogan in the same circumstances he would have done a lot more than Tabs did.

We will not miss Tabs if Hogan plays ahead of him, I guarantee it

That pretty well sums my thoughts up (especially the first paragraph).

yep.
No Kennedy, Rioli, LeCras, and Cripps from their forward line of 2018 left Darling and Ryan equaled much less scoring power and scoring options.
Plus McGovern not able to zone off his man as usual due to the increased accountability of backmen with the 666 and Brisbane didn't bomb it in.
And their rucks are average

I'm inclined to agree with this.

I'm really comfortable looking at how Colyer, Hill, Langdon, Schultz, Conca, Banfield, Walters moved between the lines to cut their ball movement down.

McCarthy with his new found fitness and Hogan are mobile enough I think that we shouldn't get exposed for pace.

Hogan for Ballantyne only change.

If Logue is fit I'd still have him for Hughes.
Hughes was fumbly and uncertain with some of his marking and disposal

Hogan can basically play as a mid, has done for Melbourne and that's where he played in his best AFL season to date. He just plays further up the ground instead of one of our mid sized half forwards (eg Banfield who can take over Ballas role). I don't think we'd be too tall at all if we just brought Hogan in for Ballantyne this week.

Way to go posted Hogan register the quickest in the comp last season . Why wouldn't he cover Ballantyne and also get a run through the mid. If he is fit ffs play him, it's a no brainer

People just have to realize that Logue has had a whole year out of footy and though a first round pick has only played a dozen games. He will not force his way into that defense and will have to earn it by playing well for peel and might come in if someone gets injured who is like for like...

Media and majority of Freo supporters are **** sure we're winning this weekend, even Hackdorn and Hardon - what's the deal? I didn't see GC but they came within a point of winning away in Melbourne, is it really a guaranteed result?

Hughes is shit though.

Can you honestly say you are comfortable when he is near the ball?

Very very young and inexperienced team ravaged by injury and they're probably going to lose Swallow and Collins for this week, easily two of their most important players. It's not a guaranteed result but it's reasonable to expect a win.
