Unless someone is injured the logical move will be Hogan in for Ballaz.

Can't wait for Cox to come back!

Yes! We were saying at the game how we reckon his foot skills are the best at the club. Probably on par with Lauchie Weller's second year where he was head and shoulders above anyone else we had at the time. The difference this time is that there are other around Cerra who are pretty good as well - Brad Hill, Wilson, Tucker etc

Depends if someone other than Pearce, Hamling, Hughes, Ryan, Wilson, Conca and Cerra plays defence to release him. Did I imagine it or did Colyer play in the back line a little bit against North? Other than him who could rotate back to release Cerra to mid?

Yeah seen him floating down there for periods of the game.

Last week the forward players (even talls) had to spend a bit more time on ground on ground with Ballaz only playing 67% time on ground with Lobb played 88% of game time, McCarthy 93%, Tabs 86%. and Sean Darcy 88%. Darcy spent a fair bit of time forward as a guess our ruck rotation was Darcy 70% Lobb 30%. Actually love the idea of playing all 4 because it allows us to continue to kick long to marking targets for the entire game with three tall forward options always on the ground.
Advantages in my view.
Allows us to get Darcy's ground minutes down to say around 70%. Which should help him to run out games better. Any change in midfield mix could be made up by increasing time on ground for Cerra and Colyer.
Allows for the awesome situation of going with Lobb in the ruck against the oppositions second ruck while still having Hogan, Tabs and McCarthy still marking targets forward.
Provides flexiblity in using Hogan mid if required.
Allows Tabs to play on the opposition's third tall defender for longer periods.
Dont mind the four talls in the forward line when Walters is mid or on the bench. When the four are there we need two players with great pressure as their partners. Walters is great, but I loved the pressure of Shultz and Banfield last week and I think we need great pressure if we go with four talls for say 15% of a game. Hogan is also way quicker in my view that most seem to think here. His leading speed and acceleration over 20 metres is his biggest strength from what I remember watching him at Melbourne. Last year Im pretty sure he was second in tackles per game (behind Darling) in terms of tackles by tall forwards. The speed of Hogan and McCarthy also makes it more realistic to have four talls in the team as they can exert more tackle pressure than some might think.

Plenty of things in footy look better in theory or on paper. But if McCarthy keeps playing well and Hogan can come in and plays as well as last year then I think we have the perfect balance of leading speed and marking power. Should be interesting to see if my theory turns into reality or not o the weekend.Obviously I could be way wrong as well.

Good arguments, I think 6-6-6 means marking forwards to take advantage of any quick centre breaks are even more valuable than ever. But modern history and I are sceptical it can work as a long term strategy. Do we really want to have Cam turning into the next Freo version of 'ten tackles a game' Chris Mayne? Maybe they want him to be Collingwood Chris Mayne the winger. We'll see

Thinking maybe Mundy may rotate off half back now that the forward line is stacked - that would suit Cerra - as they'd want to replace Walters with a similar type when he goes through the middle... or just FYFE...
 
Would love to see all of Cam, Tabs, Lobb and Hogan in the same forward line. Gotta play to our strengths and it seems as of this moment it's currently these 4. I don't really see Cam as a tall but more of a medium forward, don't know why we can't trial all 4 together.

As long as they don't spoil each other. Against Roos I saw Tabs calling for ball, they'd send it to him. Cam ditto. Neither got in each other's way. Lobb with superior height plucked the ball down when in the vicinity. I get Hogan is a brilliant and sought-after acquisition, but maybe because of his rep his presence seemed to contribute either to other forwards not being confident in their positioning in JLT, when also our forwards all jostled for same mark.

That said I guess they have to have a chance to work it/share it out - as long as we score, and win.

Possible they just want him to be around the team rather than leave him in Perth. I'd be surprised if we go that tall. Perhaps Taberner will be managed as he came back sooner than expected with his calf injury to play in Round 1.
 
I'm keen to see Hogan for Ballas, Cam and Hogan are both very mobile.

Looking at the weather there is a storm lunchtime tomorrow but then clear skies until bounce... keen!

Four talls is not too much considering one will be on the bench at any given time and the mobility of Hogan and McCarthy. I’d back those two to catch a 30 year old Pearce Hanley running out of defence. Hawthorn beat us in the grand final with Buddy, Roughead, Hale, Bailey and Gunston. The fact that they could isolate one of those players against a Sutcliffe or a Duffield was a big factor in their win

The other thing is that Gold Coast have 3 tall forwards, so we may need to add a 3rd tall to play down back with Hamling and Pearce.
 
Speaking of Hawthorn, the only time we’ve beaten them in the past 8 years we played Pavlich, Taberner, Mayne, Clarke to support Sandi. 4 tall forwards and a ruck works as long as at least a couple are mobile
